Download or read book The Depravities of War written by Sandow Birk and published by Grand Central Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the 2005 publication of his portfolio of etchings, The Leading of Causes of Death in America, Sandow Birk began a monumental print project inspired by a series of etchings called The Miseries and Disasters of War by Jacques Callot, printed in 1633. The project consists of 15 large- scale woodcut prints, each measuring 48 x 96 inches. Printed in collaboration with Master Printer Paul Mullowney, and assisted by HuiPress printer Casey Neumann, and Rhode Island School of Design interns Samuel Carr-Prindle and Nichol Markowitz, the images follow the course of the Iraq war. This landscape- styled book reproduces this project, along with selected paintings, and commentaries by other contributors on Birk's work and the artistic depiction of war and its atrocities.
Download or read book Principles of Water Resources written by Thomas V. Cech and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-04-03 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proper management of water resources can take many forms, and requires the knowledge and expertise to work at the intersection of mathematics, geology, biology, geography, meteorology, political science, and even psychology. This book provides an essential foundation in water management and development concepts and practices, dissecting complex topics into short, understandable explanations that spark true interest in the field. Approaching the study of water resources systematically, the discussion begins with historical perspective before moving on to physical processes, engineering, water chemistry, government regulation, environmental issues, global conflict, and more. Now in its fourth edition, this text provides the most current introduction to a field that is becoming ever more critical as climate change begins to threaten water supplies around the world. As geography, climate, population growth, and technology collide, effective resource management must include a comprehensive understanding of how these forces intermingle and come to life in the water so critical to us all.

Download or read book Dante s Inferno written by and published by Chronicle Books. This book was released on 2003-12-01 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A faithful yet totally original contemporary spin on a classic, Dante's Inferno as interpreted by acclaimed artist Sandow Birk and writer Marcus Sanders is a journey through a Hell that bears an eerie semblance to our own world. Birk, hailed by the Los Angeles Times as one of "realism's edgier, more visionary painters," offers extraordinarily nuanced and vivid illustrations inspired by Gustave Dore's famous engravings. This modern interpretation depicts an infernal landscape infested with mini-malls, fast food restaurants, ATMs, and other urban fixtures, and a text that cleverly incorporates urban slang and references to modern events and people (as Dante did in his own time). Previously published in a deluxe, fine-press edition to wide praise, and accompanied by national exhibitions, this striking paperback edition of Dante's Inferno is a genuinely provocative and insightful adaptation for a new generation of readers.
