Book The Sanctuary of the Soul

Download or read book The Sanctuary of the Soul written by C. T. Lewis and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013-03-11 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sanctuary of the Soul provides a bold, new interpretation of spiritual life, which C. T. Lewis describes as an interiorization of the practices of temple worship established in the Torah of Moses. Through a searching analysis of the Old and New Testaments, the author leads the reader through the primary stages in the journey of the soul, from its mystical union with God through the sacrificial work of Christ, to an interior life of worship expressed in the spiritual gifts of incense, light, and food. The Sanctuary of the Soul is scholarly, intriguing, and refreshing, the kind of book that will repay many trips back to it. Douglas Wilson, pastor of Christ Church, Moscow, Idaho Fellow of Philosophy and Classical Languages, New St. Andrews College

Book A Psychotherapist s Sanctuaries from Soul Sadness

Download or read book A Psychotherapist s Sanctuaries from Soul Sadness written by Peter A. Olsson and published by Strategic Book Publishing & Rights Agency. This book was released on 2016-12-29 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As psychotherapists, our patients share with us the joys and sorrows, pain and pettiness, betrayal and cruelty, the lies and misery in their lives and relationships. We listen carefully and empathically. Between the lines of dialogue, however, therapists hover along a continuum of self-protection located between soul-sadness at one extreme, and a cool, isolated detachment at the other. Natural disasters, genocide, suicide bombings, hostage executions or beheadings, and sick and starving children leap to our attention in the media. Our patients often mention these events, and we try to listen empathically to their feelings and fantasies about them. We suppress or deny our own strong emotions so we can work with our patients. But our feelings can accumulate and lead to soul-sadness. Psychotherapists can use art, music, poetry, or creative writing to help contain and manage soul-sadness. This works by discharging, soothing, containing, or sublimating these realities in our daily work life. During 45-plus years of practicing teaching and writing about medicine, psychiatry, psychoanalysis, and psychotherapy, I have come to realize how draining psychotherapy is for the therapist. The use of writing as a means of catharsis and processing of stress has been valuable for me, so I wanted to share writing as a means of healing soul-sadness and preventing burn-out. Prevention soul-sadness and burnout in psychotherapists is very important for us and our patients.

The Alchemy of Intention (From the Introduction) Where intention goes, energy flows. Because of how energy functions, we are each engaged in co-creation with the life force. If you want your life to be sacred, you need to set the intention for it to be so. Setting an intention is like speaking to the Divine through a megaphone: It gets the message across more clearly. This is the true secret behind creating a home sanctuary. Altars and shrines are incredible spiritual tools because they anchor our feelings and thoughts so we become very clear and specific about what we want. Ultimately, whatever we focus on appears in the material world. Creating a sacred space in your home is an opportunity to connect your intimate environment with the realm of the Divine so that your soul is supported and nourished and has freedom to express and flourish.

Book excerpt: Winner of the 2022 Rachel Carson Environment Book Award * Winner of the 2022 Science in Society Journalism Award (Books) * Finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize “Thoughtful, insightful, and wise, Wild Souls is a landmark work.”--Ed Yong, author of An Immense World "Fascinating . . . hands-on philosophy, put to test in the real world . . . Marris believes that our idea of wildness--our obsession with purity--is misguided. No animal remains untouched by human hands . . . the science isn't the hard part. The real challenge is the ethics, the act of imagining our appropriate place in that world." --Outside Magazine From an acclaimed environmental writer, a groundbreaking and provocative new vision for our relationships with--and responsibilities toward--the planet's wild animals. Protecting wild animals and preserving the environment are two ideals so seemingly compatible as to be almost inseparable. But in fact, between animal welfare and conservation science there exists a space of underexamined and unresolved tension: wildness itself. When is it right to capture or feed wild animals for the good of their species? How do we balance the rights of introduced species with those already established within an ecosystem? Can hunting be ecological? Are any animals truly wild on a planet that humans have so thoroughly changed? No clear guidelines yet exist to help us resolve such questions. Transporting readers into the field with scientists tackling these profound challenges, Emma Marris tells the affecting and inspiring stories of animals around the globe--from Peruvian monkeys to Australian bilbies, rare Hawai'ian birds to majestic Oregon wolves. And she offers a companionable tour of the philosophical ideas that may steer our search for sustainability and justice in the non-human world. Revealing just how intertwined animal life and human life really are, Wild Souls will change the way we think about nature-and our place within it.

Book Soul Springs

Download or read book Soul Springs written by Lotus Linton and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2002-08 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why is the harbinger of the Age of Aquarius called the Waterbearer? Could it be that the true Grail of the spiritual quest is not so much a cup, but the water within it? Soul Springs: Seeking Self in the Waters of the World, tells of a uniquely female spiritual journey that has taken the form of a water quest on several continents. Searching for truth within many cultures and landscapes, the author was irresistibly drawn to watery places. She discovered that water is universally understood to be a feminine element. Soul Springs is a collection of vignettes revealing spiritual insights gained at the brink of water—at a goddess well in Cornwall, in the Grand Canyon, or at a temple by the sea in Bali. Each story is titled with a familiar religious term, such as "Blessing," "Communion" or "Grace," and evolves into a distinctly feminine, sometimes unorthodox, perspective as revealed to the author by her inner voice. Soul Springs appeals to the inner gnosis that is available to each woman, the liquid light of her own Soul’s wisdom.
