His career included teaching posts at University of Arkansas (Instructor, Art Department, 1950-1953), Michigan State Normal College (now Eastern Michigan University; Chair and Professor, Department of Art, 1954-1958), Peabody College (now part of Vanderbilt University; Chairman and Professor, Arts Division, 1958-1964), University of Miami (Chairman and Professor, Department of Art, 1964-1970), and Syracuse University (Professor, School of Art, 1969). He also served as an arts administrator at University of Miami¿s Lowe Art Museum (Director, 1964-1970), Syracuse University¿s School of Art (Dean, 1969-1971) and College of Visual and Performing Arts (Dean, 1971-1982), University of South Florida¿s College of Fine Arts (Dean, 1982-1986), and Richard Florsheim Art Fund (Trustee and President, 1987-2003).With its particular strength in American art of the twentieth century, this important gift has significantly broadened the museum¿s representation of modern and contemporary artists.
