Book Brian Eno s Another Green World

Download or read book Brian Eno s Another Green World written by Geeta Dayal and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2009-11-01 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The serene, delicate songs on Another Green World sound practically meditative, but the album itself was an experiment fueled by adrenaline, panic, and pure faith. It was the first Brian Eno album to be composed almost completely in the confines of a recording studio, over a scant few months in the summer of 1975. The album was a proof of concept for Eno's budding ideas of "the studio as musical instrument," and a signpost for a bold new way of thinking about music. In this book, Geeta Dayal unravels Another Green World's abundant mysteries, venturing into its dense thickets of sound. How was an album this cohesive and refined formed in such a seemingly ad hoc way? How were electronics and layers of synthetic treatments used to create an album so redolent of the natural world? How did a deck of cards figure into all of this? Here, through interviews and archival research, she unearths the strange story of how Another Green World formed the link to Eno's future -- foreshadowing his metamorphosis from unlikely glam rocker to sonic painter and producer.

Book Environment Betrayed

    Book Details:
  • Author : Edward C. Krug
  • Publisher : iUniverse
  • Release : 2012-05-30
  • ISBN : 9781475911275
  • Pages : pages

Download or read book Environment Betrayed written by Edward C. Krug and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-05-30 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this collection of articles, an environmental scientist traces a journey through the wilderness of environmental politics. In his travels, Dr. Edward Krug developed a unique perspective on vital areas of the environmental issues, making him critical of both sides of the environmental debate. "Environment Betrayed" delves into numerous environmental issues and into environmentalism itself, presenting both Dr. Krug's opinions and the well-documented opinions of others who were active participants in the environmental arena. Dr. Krug has worked as an environmental scientist since the early eighties, and much of the research and information included here originated in the eighties and nineties. Despite this gap of time, defenders of modern Western civilization don't seem to recognize the nature of the environmental war, let alone many of its details. By raising issues, environmentalists also define the battlefield-that is, the context of thought. Krug cites credible sources on both sides of the debate with varying perspectives on where things stand in this conflict. Only by gaining a clear understanding of what's at stake can we truly grasp the numerous environmental issues swirling around us and what they will mean for our future.

Book Bioenergetics Of Wild Herbivores

Download or read book Bioenergetics Of Wild Herbivores written by Robert J. Hudson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bioenergetics is an emerging discipline which offers a more profound understanding of the ecology, behaviour, and evolution of wild herbivores. Increasingly, bioenergetic principles have been applied in management since they provide insight into population dynamics and are relevant to manipulation of habitats and assessment of the impacts of resource development. Growing interest in the agricultural potential of wild herbivores has provided further impetus. In spite of this promise, there are few comprehensive syntheses of the concept and its application to wild herbivores. This volume attempts to fill this need. This book provides a great amount of detail but its expressive aim is to lead us to the whole animal, to a herd, to population as integral parts of an ecological entity which in turn is the result of evolutionary forces. The concept of this book promises the realization of an overdue change in the approach to bioenergetics, to nutrition and husbandry, and thus to the management of wild herbivores: the final emancipation from rules and views based primarily on domesticated herbivores or on experimental animals held under unnatural conditions, necessarily impending them behaviourally, physically, and psychically.

Book Soil Water Repellency

Download or read book Soil Water Repellency written by C.J. Ritsema and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has become clear that soil water repellency is much more wide-spread than formerly thought. Water repellency has been reported in most continents of the world for varying land uses and climatic conditions. Soil water repellency often leads to severe runoff and erosion, rapid leaching of surface-applied agrichemicals, and losses of water and nutrient availability for crops. At present, no optimum management strategies exist for water repellent soils, focusing on minimizing environmental risks while maintaining crop production. The book starts with a historical overview of water repellency research, followed by seven thematic sections covering 26 research chapters. The first section discusses the origin, the second the assessment, and the third the occurrence and hydrological implications of soil water repellency. The fourth section is devoted to the effect of fire on water repellency, section five deals with the physics and modeling of flow and transport in water repellent soils, section six presents amelioration techniques and farming strategies to combat soil water repellency, and section seven concludes the book with an extensive bibliography on soil water repellency.
