Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Liberty is something that all sailors are familiar with; "dungaree liberty" they may not be. It isn't often used and in today's modern times it isn't much needed. But, sometimes in the past it was used as a very rapid, valuable and effective way to "clean up" a liberty port. Local toughs and troublemakers who preyed on the poor unsuspecting men in navy blue were subdued by sailors who dressed in their dungarees and took the fight to the backstreets, alleys and entertainment spots where the locals had made the fleet unwelcome by making it unsafe for them. When young Torpedoman's Mate Tom Randall first met the beautiful Gloria Reese it was love at first sight. Who knew it would take a dungaree liberty so he could keep her?

Book U boat Prey Merchant Sailors at War 1939 1942

Download or read book U boat Prey Merchant Sailors at War 1939 1942 written by Philip Kaplan and published by Pen and Sword. This book was released on 2014-05-31 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Merchant Seaman never faltered. To him we owe our preservation and our very lives - The Right Hon. Alfred Barnes, Minister of War Transport.During the first stages of the Second World War, all forces were rallied in an attempt to support the Allied effort. With trade and supply routes to Britain suddenly being placed at great risk, a stalwart team of merchant sailors were required to protect vital supplies for the British people, as well as shipping vital army necessities back and forth. The efforts of the sailors involved really can't be overstated. Despite the fact that they didn't wear uniforms, and few were rewarded with medals or memorials, they were certainly as worthy of the title 'front-line warrior' as the guardsmen and fighter pilots to whom they transported necessary combat supplies. Indeed, many are in agreement that their efforts stood between the might of German forces and the domination of the world. Over 30,000 men fell victim to the German U-boats between 1939 and 1945. This publication serves as a tribute to their efforts, and will be followed by a second volume covering the final stages of the war, from 1943-45. Images of some of the most imposing merchant ships feature, accompanied by a lucid narrative describing the various roles enacted by the sailors on board and the wartime context in which they worked.

Book How It All Began

Download or read book How It All Began written by Miguel Cisneros and published by Page Publishing, Inc. This book was released on 2020-05-26 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How It All Began is based on Miguel "Mike" Cisneros Jr.'s life experiences growing up as a child dealing with family conflicts, domestic violence, bullying and child abuse, homelessness, and short periods of happiness. At times there were moments of hopelessness, despair, and desperation until he had to make a life-changing commitment to leave all that was negative and begin a new life, hoping something positive would come from it. That life-changing commitment was with the United States Navy. From the very beginning upon joining the Navy, many in leadership positions seemed to try blocking his desire to move forward, including people in leadership positions during a period when the Vietnam War was ending and the military was experiencing racial tension. Even though he didn't like it and knew it wasn't right, he kept going. There were also those in leadership positions that saw the potential in him and provided the mentoring and guidance for him to advance. After serving in the Navy for over thirty years, through many years of sea duty, deployments, family separations, adversity, and at times humiliations, he found ways to achieve his goals and succeed. At the same time, he provides insights of the chain of command and their leadership style. As with all organizations, there are good leaders and bad leaders; and from that, he learned and tried emulating the best from each. This personal story was written in the hopes that someone may learn from these experiences and perhaps inspire them to believe in themselves, to use their abilities, to have a positive attitude, and most importantly, to never give up.
