Book Sagesse de la cosmologie ancienne

Download or read book Sagesse de la cosmologie ancienne written by Wolfgang Smith and published by Editions L'Harmattan. This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book 4QInstruction sagesse et eschatologie written by Jean-Sébastien Rey and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2009-01-31 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume consists of an edition, a translation and a commentary of the most important fragments of 4QInstruction. Initially it deals with the linguistic characteristics of the scroll highlighting the links between 4QInstruction and Ben Sira, and also with the Community Rule and the Hodayot. It then investigates the Sapiential fragments dealing with poverty, husband-wife and parent-child relationships. Finally it examines the eschatological fragments. The work seeks to improve the edition and understanding of this fundamental text enhancing our knowledge of the history and development of thinking at Qumran. Moreover, it examines links which 4QInstruction establishes between purely Sapiential discourse and descriptions of eschatological judgement. This study substantially illuminates our understanding of the Wisdom movement in the early intertestamental period.

Book excerpt: For the first time, the present commentary brings together all relevant aspects necessary to understand and appreciate this late portion of Old Testament Scripture: textual criticism; detailed philological and literary analysis; the text's two-fold historical context in its Hellenistic environment, on the one hand, and in the biblical tradition on the other; and ultimately the very innovative theology of the book of Wisdom. Aspects of the book's reception history as well as hermeneutical questions round off the commentary on the text.

  • Author : Wolfgang Smith
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2010-04

  • Pages : 192 pages

Download or read book Science and Myth written by Wolfgang Smith and published by . This book was released on 2010-04 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Science and Myth the author shows, in the first place, that science too has its mythology, unrecognized and unacknowledged though the fact be. These scientistic myths, however, turn out to constitute what he terms anti-myths: "a kind that would banish all others, and in so doing, undermine not only religion and morality, but indeed all culture in its higher modes." What invalidates the contemporary "scientific" world-view and renders it "mythical" in the pejorative sense, he goes on to contend, proves finally to be the underlying hypothesis that human perception terminates, not in an external object, but in a subjective phantasm. Not only does the author maintain cogently that visual perception, in particular, does penetrate to the external world, but basing himself on traditional sources-fromVedic to Biblical-he shows that sight as such opens in principle to a veritable gnosis: a "seeing of the Real."

Book The Quantum Enigma

Download or read book The Quantum Enigma written by Wolfgang Smith and published by Sherwood Sugden. This book was released on 1995 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following upon the overthrow of the classical world picture by the findings of quantum mechanics, physicists have proposed a broad gamut of alternative world views. The present book begins with the major recognition that each of these suffers from a certain "residual Cartesianism" that has been smuggled in, as it were, unconsciously. It turns out, moreover, that the moment one discards this hidden and problematic premise, quantum theory begins to "make sense" in a way that it never has before. As the author goes on to show, it now becomes possible, for the first time, to integrate the findings of quantum physics into a world view that is neither forced nor ad hoc, but conforms to the permanent intuitions of mankind. Surprisingly, this treatise can be read with pleasure and profit, not only by scientists, but also by readers previously unacquainted with the technical conceptions of physics or the quantum-reality literature.

Book Ya y ibn Ad Treatise on Divine Unity According to the Doctrine of the Christians

This book was released on 2023-10-16 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do intellectual traditions interact? This is the fundamental question driving this book, which explores a case study set in the early Islamicate world: the Treatise on Divine Unity According to the Doctrine of the Christians by the Christian-Arabic theologian and philosopher Yaḥyā ibn ʿAdī (d. 974). The book attempts to contextualise the treatise and its intellectual environment by exploring the interplay between philosophy, Christian theology and Islam. This volume includes a revised Arabic text of Samir’s 2015 edition, collated with the manuscript Tehran, Madrasa-yi Marwī 19, recently discovered by prof. Robert Wisnovsky.

Book Les tudes philoniennes

Download or read book Les tudes philoniennes written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-07-19 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This volume gathers the proceedings of the Paris conference in Philonic studies (2017), consisting of 23 papers by contributors from 8 countries. Fifty years after the Lyon conference, it aimed at taking a retrospective look at the intellectual contexts and the academic fields in which Philonic studies have penetrated, as well as the ways in which they evolved. The work of the Alexandrian became of major importance in the history of philosophy. It has been studied as a source of cultured Christianity, in connection with Second Temple Judaism and the Alexandrian Jewish community, but also in the context of research on rabbinic Judaism, New Testament and philosophy of the imperial era.
