Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building on the revolutionary Institute of Medicine reports To Err is Human and Crossing the Quality Chasm, Keeping Patients Safe lays out guidelines for improving patient safety by changing nurses' working conditions and demands. Licensed nurses and unlicensed nursing assistants are critical participants in our national effort to protect patients from health care errors. The nature of the activities nurses typically perform â€" monitoring patients, educating home caretakers, performing treatments, and rescuing patients who are in crisis â€" provides an indispensable resource in detecting and remedying error-producing defects in the U.S. health care system. During the past two decades, substantial changes have been made in the organization and delivery of health care â€" and consequently in the job description and work environment of nurses. As patients are increasingly cared for as outpatients, nurses in hospitals and nursing homes deal with greater severity of illness. Problems in management practices, employee deployment, work and workspace design, and the basic safety culture of health care organizations place patients at further risk. This newest edition in the groundbreaking Institute of Medicine Quality Chasm series discusses the key aspects of the work environment for nurses and reviews the potential improvements in working conditions that are likely to have an impact on patient safety.

Book Review of the Draft Fourth National Climate Assessment

Download or read book Review of the Draft Fourth National Climate Assessment written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2018-06-18 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate change poses many challenges that affect society and the natural world. With these challenges, however, come opportunities to respond. By taking steps to adapt to and mitigate climate change, the risks to society and the impacts of continued climate change can be lessened. The National Climate Assessment, coordinated by the U.S. Global Change Research Program, is a mandated report intended to inform response decisions. Required to be developed every four years, these reports provide the most comprehensive and up-to-date evaluation of climate change impacts available for the United States, making them a unique and important climate change document. The draft Fourth National Climate Assessment (NCA4) report reviewed here addresses a wide range of topics of high importance to the United States and society more broadly, extending from human health and community well-being, to the built environment, to businesses and economies, to ecosystems and natural resources. This report evaluates the draft NCA4 to determine if it meets the requirements of the federal mandate, whether it provides accurate information grounded in the scientific literature, and whether it effectively communicates climate science, impacts, and responses for general audiences including the public, decision makers, and other stakeholders.

Book Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health V

Book Ethics Integrity and Aptitude General Studies IV GS 4 Solved Papers Civil Services Mains 2013 2019

Download or read book Ethics Integrity and Aptitude General Studies IV GS 4 Solved Papers Civil Services Mains 2013 2019 written by Team ARSu and published by MyARSu. This book was released on 2020-01-21 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains model answers to the questions and case studies asked in General Studies-IV (GS-4) Civil Services Mains Paper from 2013 to 2019 with detailed information on the background/framework of the question/likely answer. It is important to note that as a subject in Civil Services Examination, GS-4 is the only subject where we have comparatively well defined syllabus and paper pattern. Because of this, each individual can score good marks in the paper with lesser efforts as compared to other General Studies Papers, i.e. if you dedicate 15-20 days to this subject, you will not just learn about the complete subject but you can score much more as compared to other General Studies paper, as they require much more time because of their dynamic nature. If we consider the previous year question Papers of General Studies-IV, the questions were divided into two parts as: 1. Theory-based Questions (based on the theoretical aspects of the ethics), and 2. Case Studies (based on the actual or probable life situations). The answers are divided into two portions with first one detailing about the framework of the answer or background of the question, giving details about the basic idea of the question or the form of case study. The second part is the model answer giving wider inputs on the question. We hope that wider considerations will help the reader in understanding the question and how to structure the answer, based on the question.

Book Introduction to Nanotechnology

    Book Details:
  • Author : Gilad James, PhD
  • Publisher : Gilad James Mystery School
  • Release :
  • ISBN : 6083786282
  • Pages : 91 pages

Download or read book Introduction to Nanotechnology written by Gilad James, PhD and published by Gilad James Mystery School. This book was released on with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nanotechnology is a branch of science and technology that deals with studying and manipulating materials at the nanoscale. It involves the use of nanoscale materials, devices, and systems to create new and innovative technologies for various fields such as medicine, electronics, energy, and materials science. The foundation of nanotechnology lies in the ability to control and manipulate the properties of materials at the atomic and molecular level. The unique properties exhibited by nanoparticles are attributed to their high surface area to volume ratio, which leads to a significant increase in reactivity, chemical activity, and physical properties. Hence, the study and development of nanomaterials have the potential to revolutionize the way we live, work, and interact with the world around us. Nanotechnology has a wide range of applications, from the development of more effective and efficient drug delivery systems to the creation of more advanced computational devices, and the possibilities are endless. However, there are also concerns about the potential risks associated with nanomaterials, and extensive research is necessary to ensure their safe use and handling.

Book Risk Based Design for Safe Development of Reliable and Environmentally Friendly Inland Water Transportation System

Download or read book Risk Based Design for Safe Development of Reliable and Environmentally Friendly Inland Water Transportation System written by Dr. Oladokun S. Olanrewaju and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-10-17 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water supports our planet and its vast resources need to be fully utilized to benefit human activities and his environment in a sustainable manner, most of inland water resources has been under utilised and under maintained. Maritime industry has made use of the ocean in a more much responsible manner for cross continental transportation of good. There are currently dire needs to find sensitive ways to mitigate challenge of global warming, climate changes and its associated impact, especially within the coastline. Various research works has proven that Inland Water Transportation represents the cleanest mode of transportation. Its use could reduce and mitigate carbon footage and other Green House Gases. Past system design and operation has followed conventional method. System has been addressed through reactive behaviour that has put system on probable risk and consequence in oblivion. Likewise, complexity of sustainable water transportation development demand design and operation that require careful evaluation which can be achieved by employing proactive method. That considers holistic system analysis approach. It has become important to address system associated risk, reliability and their life cycle through assessment of accident and pollution prevention, protection, control principle. Ageing, uncertainty and operational factors are also important system variables that need to be incorporated in risk close loop system. This book account for modelling of proactive technik and application of a top down risk and reliability based design that identifies assess, analyses and employ sustainability equity comparison leading to generic safety and environmental risk reliability model (SERM). SERM is a decision support system tool developed at University Technology Malaysia for the development of efficient and sustainable Inland Water Transportation System (IWT).
