Book Expert System in Software Engineering Using Structured Analysis and Design Technique SADT

Download or read book Expert System in Software Engineering Using Structured Analysis and Design Technique SADT written by Intaek Kim and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis effort focuses on designing and implementing the Knowledge-Based Software Assistant System (KBSAS) for the Structured Analysis Design Technique (SADT) method developed by Softech, Inc. A Graphics Editor is used to create specific Structured Analysis (SA) diagrams and a graphical symbol syntax is derived from these diagrams. The development of the KBSAS is divided into two parts: the design and implementation of a graphics translator and an application of a knowledge-based system for syntax checking. First, the objective of the translator is to map a subset of the graphical symbol syntax from a SA diagram into the first order predicate calculus. The SA diagram information is represented in a set of predicate data forms. Secondly, the objective of a knowledge-based system is to evaluate adherence to proper SADT syntax. This is accomplished by generating SA rules associated with either an activity box or boundary arrows. The requirements analyst and the designer are provided with a means of recovering from a graphical symbol syntax error(s) through a display window. Specific emphasis focuses on a comprehensive mapping of the graphical symbol syntax to predicate logic as well as development of an application of a rule-based system using this capability. (kr).

Book Design of a Syntax Validation Tool for Requirements Analysis Using Structured Analysis and Design Technique SADT

Download or read book Design of a Syntax Validation Tool for Requirements Analysis Using Structured Analysis and Design Technique SADT written by Dong H. Jung and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis investigation presents the prototype development of a validation tool for checking the syntax of Structured Analysis and Design Technique (SADT) method from a structured analysis diagram. The tool provides the requirements analyst and the designer with an environment for checking the SADT syntax of an SADT diagram. The tool is operated through the use of an SADT Editor which was developed by Steven E. Johnson at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT). The validation tool was developed in three phases. During the first phase the formal definition of the SADT graphical language was derived using Predicate Logic representation. During the second phase, the SADT Editor was analyzed and the interface issues with the software were identified. Thus, the graphical features were translated. During the third phase, the syntax rules were identified according to the formal definition of the SADT methodology using Predicate Logic representation. The new tool was implemented into a knowledge-based system to ease the extension of the syntax rules, to add knowledge of the SADT graphical structure and to add domain knowledge of an application system developed by the SADT methodology. Book A Practical Handbook for Software Development

Download or read book A Practical Handbook for Software Development written by N. D. Birrell and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1988-02-11 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The designer of a software system, like the architect of a building, needs to be aware of the construction techniques available and to choose the ones that are the most appropriate. This book provides the implementer of software systems with a guide to 25 different techniques for the complete development processes, from system definition through design and into production. The techniques are described against a common background of the traditional development path, its activities and deliverable items. In addition the concepts of metrics and indicators are introduced as tools for both technical and managerial monitoring and control of progress and quality. The book is intended to widen the mental toolkit of system developers and their managers, and will also introduce students of computer science to the practical side of software development. With its wide-ranging treatment of the techniques available and the practical guidance it offers, it will prove an important and valuable work.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years there has been a tremendous upsurge of interest in manufac turing systems design and analysis. Large industrial companies have realized that their manufacturing facilities can be a source of tremendous opportunity if managed well or a huge corporate liability if managed poorly. In particular industrial managers have realized the potential of well designed and installed production planning and control systems. Manufacturing, in an environment of short product life cycles and increasing product diversity, looks to tech niques such as manufacturing resource planning, Just In Time (lIT) and total quality control among others to meet the challenge. Customers are demanding high quality products and very fast turn around on orders. Manufacturing personnel are aware of the lead time from receipt of order to delivery of completed orders at the customer's premises. It is clear that this production lead time is, for the majority of manufacturing firms, greatly in excess of the actual processing or manufacturing time. There are many reasons for this, among them poor coordination between the sales and manufacturing function. Some are within the control of the manufacturing function. Others are not.

Book Design and Analysis Using Software Engineering Techniques

Download or read book Design and Analysis Using Software Engineering Techniques written by Pinaki Chakraborty and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role of tacit knowledge is quite important in the field of software development. So, the experience gained from one software development project can be used in other similar projects. The current paper discusses the use of techniques from Software Engineering to design and analyze a software system developed for a medium-sized manufacturing enterprise. The Structured Analysis and Design Technique (SADT) has been first used to construct a model of the problem. Then the design has been presented using Use Case Diagram, Entity Relationship Diagram and Dataflow Diagram. An interface multiplexing technique has been used to replace a number of similar interfaces to communicate with the users by a few generic ones which are dynamic in nature. The use of this technique has reduced the size of the source code by more than 40%. After developing the software, a proper analysis has been carried out in terms of software metrics. The size metrics analysis has identified the components that needed the maximum effort to develop. Alternatively, the information flow metric analysis has highlighted that the degree of cohesion and coupling of the components of the software. This analysis verified that the design of the software is cohesive and efficient.
