Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These essays explore the role sacrificial metaphor has to play in theological interpretation of the death of Christ, and ask whether such a metaphor makes sense today. They make clear that the political and psychological connotations of sacrificial language have in modern times given rise to great unease, and examine, in particular, the Catholic tradition of the eucharistic sacrifice, a tradition that was vigorously challenged at the Reformation. Looking at the various controversies from a variety of perspectives, the contributions to the book have a pronounced ecumenical slant, and illuminate sacrifice at the major, formative moments in history, from Old Testament times to contemporary theology.

Book excerpt: "In the depths of an ancient and mysterious castle, nestled at the highest point of the dark Cliff, lies a secret hidden for generations. Whispers of the night tell tales of redemption and sacrifice, while a dense fog envelops the dark town of Ostroford, the silent guardian of this enigmatic abode. In the tranquil village, where shadows seem to come to life, the arrival of Elsa, a young woman of light and mystery, will unleash a series of events that will change the destiny of all those who dare to venture into the mysteries of the dark Cliff. William, the owner of the ancestral mansion, lives tormented by secrets that have haunted him since his youth. His wife, Alice, has tried to maintain peace at home, but the shadow of the unknown threatens to shatter their harmony. Meanwhile, Liam, the faithful caretaker, knows more about the dark corners of the mansion than he's willing to reveal. Destiny intertwines strongly when Alexander, the son of William and Alice, finds love in Elsa, whose past is as enigmatic as the castle she now resides in. Emma, the mysterious housekeeper, keeps silent about dark secrets that could change everything, while Wilma, a distant relative, arrives for a visit and seems to have her own interest in the legacy of the dark Cliff. A haunted mirror, living nightmares, and a secret passage to the unknown challenge the sanity of those who dare to confront the enigmas of the castle. Liberation or condemnation, sacrifice and ritual, are key pieces that form a macabre puzzle, whose consequences will affect not only those who reside in the castle but also all of Ostroford. The final battle approaches, and as the thick fog penetrates the heart of the village, redemption seems as distant as it is elusive. But even in the deepest darkness, there is always a light that guides towards a new beginning. Will they unravel the secrets of the dark Cliff and find the hidden legacy that awaits in its depths? Or will the past, like lost memories,

Book Sin Redemption and Sacrifice

Download or read book Sin Redemption and Sacrifice written by Stanislas Lyonnet and published by Gregorian & Biblical Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present study is made up of three parts. The first one, entitled the notion of sin by Stanislas Lyonnet, starts from the observation that redemption is essentially the destruction of sin. For this reason the treatise on redemption in the New Testament is preceded by an inquiry into the notion of sin, as it derives from the Old Testament, especially from the account of Genesis 3. The second part, also from Stanislas Lyonnet, is devoted to the terminology of redemption in the N.T. The third part, by Leopold Sabourin, is about sacrifice and redemption in the history of St. Paul's formula Christ made sin (2 Cor 5,21). The author examines the most representative testimonies of the ancient and Medieval Greek and Latin writers, and exposes his interpretation of 2 Cor 5, 21, in which the notion of sacrifice for sin appears as a key concept in this formulation.

Book Stories for the Seasons

Download or read book Stories for the Seasons written by Chuck Warzyn and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Courage, compassion, sacrifice, redemption and resurrection are recurring themes in the 24 short stories that make up "Stories for the Seasons" -- tales that take place at Christmastime, Easter, Valentine's Day, Halloween, and during the days of summer. Locales and time periods in these stories range from Southern California, the Middle East, ships at sea and Mexico to Biblical times, post-Civil War Missouri, medieval Europe and early 1900s small towns. Facing the challenges life thrusts upon them are assorted protagonists, including a Mexican boy and a donkey he rescues from the desert, a quiet cowboy who shows hidden strengths among a group of strangers, a sailor whose love of music reaches across the Pacific Ocean, a former Confederate cavalryman forced to face his tragic past, a simple-minded field worker whose life is enriched by a friendship that lasts two-thirds of a century, a lonely widow victimized by Halloween pranksters, a sidewalk Santa Claus for whom Christmas takes on a new meaning, a European immigrant confronted by town bullies, an over-the-road truck driver who unexpectedly finds love, the shadowy resident of a mysterious mansion, an elderly school cook who offers an unexpected gift at a graduation ceremony, and a pair of animal friends that befriend a miraculous stranger. The stories in which these characters and others appear were first published in a weekly newspaper column in Fayette County, Tenn. The column, "Country Tales," focused on various aspects of rural life from the perspective of someone who had lived in an urban environment the first 40 years of his life. The parameters of that column allowed the author to include the 24 pieces of original short fiction printed here. Discover the characters in "Stories for the Seasons" and rediscover within yourself the strengths they display: courage, compassion, sacrifice, redemption and resurrection.
