Download or read book The Routledge Companion to Business in Africa written by Sonny Nwankwo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-07-25 with total page 822 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the world's poorest inhabited continent, Africa has recently shown signs of being a source of economic growth in the coming decades, with increased foreign investment - notably from China - and huge growth in GDP from a number of African states. In contrast to the heaving weight of books focusing on business opportunities in Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America, Africa has been poorly served by academic publishing. This compendium of scholarship offers cutting-edge knowledge relating to business in Africa. The objectives of this collection include: To shed new light on the socio-cultural and historical underpinnings of business practice in Africa and their implications for promoting entrepreneurship and business behaviour in the region To consider the important constraints on business activities in Africa, and the emerging 'best practice' for redressing their real and potential impacts To facilitate a better understanding of contemporary business practice in Africa through the application of relevant theories and models, including emergent ones. The Routledge Companion to Business in Africa is a comprehensive reference resource that provides the perfect platform for embarking on research and study into Africa from the business perspective.

Finally, the book provides a regional and sector perspective on how the current crisis affects Europe, its government policies and industry performance. In this way, the volume presents a modern, interdisciplinary and scholarly overview of the latest insights, issues and debates in turnaround management and business rescue, developing a European perspective in an attempt to redress the predominance of an American orientation in the academic literature. It aims at a wider audience interested in turnarounds and failure, such as faculty and students in the fields of law, business, economics, accountancy, finance, strategic management, and marketing, but also at judges, insolvency practitioners, lawyers, accountants and turnaround professionals, as well as the EU and government officials, staff of trade unions and employer’s associations.

Download or read book A Standardization of Selected Management Concepts written by Arthur G. Bedeian and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-17 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1986. Since "modern" management’s beginning at the turn of the twentieth century, there have been pleas from management practitioners and academics alike to solidify the underlying foundation upon which it is based. However, until the field of management can boast of an all-inclusive and unified body of management theory, it will continue to remain without such a needed and desired framework. Confusion, controversy, and disagreement are traditionally characteristic of a new and growing field of study. The field of management is no exception. A large extent of the basic controversy and confusion associated with management thought can be attributed to disagreement over concepts and terminology. This absence of agreement and the resulting lack of standardization associated with it are the problems addressed by this study. Its purpose has been to undertake a thorough analyses of selected management concepts in an effort to: (1) clarify the meaning of these concepts by tracing their evolutionary development, (2) initiate a standardization of the fundamental terminology and definitions used in the field of management, (3) provide a beginning lexical soiree for additional future development and compilation of management terminology, and (4) contribute to the first and perhaps most vital step in the process of creating a valid and universally accepted general theory of management.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today's global business environment it is no longer acceptable that a corporation does well simply by doing good. It is expected. With increasing pressures from stakeholders to improve the bottom line as well as to be good corporate citizens, business leaders face tough decisions. What social issues should we support? What initiatives should we develop that will do the most good for the company as well as the cause? Do we include social messages in our advertising, encourage our employees to volunteer, do we modify our business practices? How do we integrate a new initiative into current strategies? These and other challenges will continue to face future leaders. This book provides thoughtful answers to these important questions, and to many more. The book offers suggestions on how to choose among major worthy causes and also how to measure the amount of good achieved both for the recipients and the companies themselves. Of course, all is not only about challenges, there are loads of opportunities that go along with them but it’s only responsible and sustainable leaders who would be able to spot these opportunities. That is the future which awaits 21st century leaders.
