Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Practical Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy: Industrial and Laboratory Chemical Analysis presents the Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) as a valuable analytic tool in solving industrial and laboratory chemical problems. The text provides chapters that deal with the various applications of FT-IR such as the characterization of organic and inorganic superconductors; the study of forensic materials such as controlled drug particles, fragments of polymers, textile fibers, and explosives; identification and quantification of impurities and measurement of epitaxial thickness in silicon; bulk and surface studies and microanalyses of industrial materials; and the identification or determination of unknown compounds. Chemists, industrial researchers, and product engineers will find the book useful.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy applies the principle that molecular vibrations can absorb infrared radiation in the range of the electromagnetic radiation. This book discusses methods and provides new research on FTIR. Chapter One reviews the advances in the analysis of biological systems by means of FTIR spectroscopy. Chapter Two studies the last advances of infrared spectroscopy applied to the analysis of lignocellulosic materials. Chapter Three presents the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic, coupled with chemometric tools, to characterize organic matter transformations during the composting process. Chapter Four focuses on applications of FTIR spectroscopy in the wine industry.

Book Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy

Download or read book Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy written by Oliver J. Rees and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) is a powerful tool for identifying types of chemical bonds in a molecule by producing an infrared absorption spectrum that is like a molecular "fingerprint". FTIR is most useful for identifying chemicals that are either organic or inorganic. It can be utilised to quantitate some components of an unknown mixture, as well as to the analysis of solids, liquids, and gasses. This book presents topical research in the field of FTIR including an overview of recent applications of FTIR spectroscopy in combination with chemometrics in the analysis of various quality parameters of fats and oils, a modified FTIR method for the analysis of various structural dynamic problems and energetic materials on surfaces.

Book High Resolution Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy for the Qualitative Analysis of Explosive Precursors in the Vapour Phase

Download or read book High Resolution Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy for the Qualitative Analysis of Explosive Precursors in the Vapour Phase written by Felicity Carlysle and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) has applications in many areas of forensic science. The ability to produce information rich spectra is of particular use for the characterisation and discrimination of materials. High resolution FTIR can produce even more detailed spectra and therefore improved characterisation and discrimination. However, the production of information rich spectra requires suitable statistical tools for analysis, with multivariate analysis often used. The mid infrared region contains the 'fingerprint region' which is used for the detection and identification of many different materials, and is therefore an area of investigation in the field of explosives detection. This research aimed to utilise high resolution mid infrared FTIR for the characterisation of explosive precursors in the vapour phase. Detailed examination of the spectra produced would provide information on spectral regions that could be applied as targets for detection systems, for example those based upon Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCLs). By building up detailed knowledge of the spectra produced by different materials this research aimed to determine the most suitable spectral regions for the identification of explosive precursors. In addition, this research aimed to investigate whether it was possible to use high resolution FTIR to discriminate between laboratory grade materials and their shop bought counterparts containing additives and impurities. Acetone, alcohols and hydrogen peroxide were analysed in this work. The research also aimed to determine whether brand discrimination was still viable following concentration of two hydrogen peroxide containing brands. The ability to identify that a material had been concentrated but tie it back to its brand would be of great significance for intelligence gathering. The findings of this research demonstrate that high resolution FTIR can successfully be applied to the characterisation of explosive precursors and, in combination with chemometric techniques, discriminate between different precursor brands even following concentration of the precursor material.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Mid-infrared (MIR) or Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy is a vibrational spectroscopy technique that identifies chemicals based on the interaction of molecules with electromagnetic radiation in the mid-infrared region. The use of this technique has increased over the last decades due to its many advantages compared with the use of other methods, including non-destruction of the sample, minimal or no sample preparation, and the fact that it does not involve the use of any hazardous chemicals during the analysis. FTIR Spectroscopy: Advances in Research and Applications presents some of the most recent advances on the application of mid-infrared spectroscopy in biology, medicine and food science. It starts with an overview of chemometric methods that are needed for analysis and interpretation of infrared data (Chapter 1), followed by applications in the analysis of food and biological systems, including food provenance identification (Chapter 2) and structural aspects (Chapter 3), structural analysis of mollusk shells (Chapter 4), and applications in biomedical research (Chapter 5) and cancer diagnosis (Chapter 6). The book is written by an international panel of scientists with extensive expertise in the field of infrared spectroscopy, providing unique views and perspectives on both practical and theoretical applications"--
