Book Mins Performance for Parallel Processing

Download or read book Mins Performance for Parallel Processing written by Harsh Sadawarti and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2007-11-14 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Performance of a system depends directly on the time required to perform an operation and number of these operations that can be performed concurrently. High performance computing systems can be designed using parallel processing. The effectiveness of these parallel systems rests primarily on the communication network linking processors and memory modules. Hence, an interconnection network that provides the desired connectivity and performance at minimum cost is required for communication in parallel processing systems. Multistage interconnection networks provide a compromise between shared bus and crossbar networks.

Book Permutation Sets and Routability of Multistage Interconnection Networks MINs

Download or read book Permutation Sets and Routability of Multistage Interconnection Networks MINs written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multistage interconnection network is of the most important components for designing high-performance parallel supercomputers and for providing a powerful reconfigurable programming environment such that programming is independent of the actual computer architectures. In this research, some fundamental issues in multistage interconnection networks are investigated. Results, which promise great potential for the design of a reconfigurable high-speed parallel supercomputer with an architecture independent programming environment, are presented. First, two characteristic functions are introduced to characterize networks in a proposed class of multistage interconnection networks. Message routing schemes, network partitioning algorithms, and many other useful properties are presented. Next, a more general class of multistage interconnection networks and two more general characteristic functions are introduced. The transformation rules for one network to emulate another in the class is presented such that the programs and algorithms developed on one machine can be reused on others. Then, the permutation capability (in terms of non-conflict parallel communication) of each network is presented through the concept of network partitioning. An algorithm to determine the admissibility of any permutation on a multistage interconnection network is developed. Finally, a fault-tolerant reconfiguration scheme is presented for parallel processor systems which employ multistage interconnection networks for interprocessor communication.

Book A Testbed for Evaluation of Fault tolerant Routing in Multiprocessor Interconnection Networks

Download or read book A Testbed for Evaluation of Fault tolerant Routing in Multiprocessor Interconnection Networks written by Aniruddha S. Vaidya and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "With parallel machines increasingly taking on critical and complex applications, it is important to make them dependable to ensure their commercial success. Fault-tolerance in the network to accommodate link and node failures is an important step towards this goal. This can be achieved by employing cost-effective fault-tolerant algorithms. However, despite substantial efforts on the theoretical front in developing fault-tolerant routing techniques and architectures, these ideas have not manifested themselves in many commercial platforms. The ramifications of providing fault-tolerant routing in terms of cost and performance is still not clear to the computer architect. Such an insight can only be gained through detailed analysis of a design with realistic workloads. Since no current evaluation platform supports this, previous research on fault-tolerant routing has used synthetic workloads for analyzing performance. This paper presents a comprehensive evaluation testbed for interconnection networks and routing algorithms using real applications. The testbed is flexible enough to implement any network topology and fault-tolerant routing algorithm, and allows the system architect to study the cost versus performance tradeoffs for a range of network parameters. We illustrate its use with one fault-tolerant algorithm and analyze the performance of four shared memory applications with different fault conditions. We also show how the testbed can be used to drive future research in fault-tolerant routing algorithms and architectures, by proposing and evaluating novel architectural enhancements to the network router, called path selection heuristics (PSH). We propose three such schemes and the Least Recently Used (LRU) PSH is shown to give the best performance in the presence of faults."

Book Routing in Optical Multistage Interconnection Networks

Download or read book Routing in Optical Multistage Interconnection Networks written by C. Lee Giles and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "There has been much interest in using optics to implement computer interconnection networks. However, there has been little discussion of any routing methodologies besides those already used in electronics. In this paper, a neural network routing methodology is proposed that can generate control bits for an optical multistage interconnection network (OMIN). Though we present no optical implementation of this methodology, we illustrate its control for an optical interconnection network. These OMINs may be used as communication media for shared memory, distributed computing systems. The routing methodology makes use of an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) that functions as a parallel computer for generating the routes. The neural network routing scheme may be applied to electrical as well as optical interconnection networks. However, since the ANN can be implemented using optics, this routing approach is especially appealing for an optical computing environment. The parallel nature of the ANN computation may make this routing scheme faster than conventional routing approaches, especially for OMINs that are irregular. Furthermore, the neural network routing scheme is fault-tolerant. Results are shown for generating routes in a 16 x 16, 3 stage OMIN."

Book Fault tolerant Design for Multistage Routing Networks

Download or read book Fault tolerant Design for Multistage Routing Networks written by A. DeHon and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the size of digital systems increases, the mean time between single component failures diminishes. To avoid component related failures, large computers must be fault-tolerant. In this paper, we focus on methods for achieving a high degree of fault-tolerance in multistage routing networks. We describe a multipath scheme for providing end-to-end fault-tolerance on large networks. The scheme improves routing performance while keeping network latency low. We also describe the novel routing component, RN1, which implements this scheme, showing how it can be the basic building block for fault-tolerant multistage routing networks.

Book Interconnection Network Reliability Evaluation

Download or read book Interconnection Network Reliability Evaluation written by Neeraj Kumar Goyal and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-10-06 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents novel and efficient tools, techniques and approaches for reliability evaluation, reliability analysis, and design of reliable communication networks using graph theoretic concepts. In recent years, human beings have become largely dependent on communication networks, such as computer communication networks, telecommunication networks, mobile switching networks etc., for their day-to-day activities. In today's world, humans and critical machines depend on these communication networks to work properly. Failure of these communication networks can result in situations where people may find themselves isolated, helpless and exposed to hazards. It is a fact that every component or system can fail and its failure probability increases with size and complexity. The main objective of this book is to devize approaches for reliability modeling and evaluation of such complex networks. Such evaluation helps to understand which network can give us better reliability by their design. New designs of fault-tolerant interconnection network layouts are proposed, which are capable of providing high reliability through path redundancy and fault tolerance through reduction of common elements in paths. This book covers the reliability evaluation of various network topologies considering multiple reliability performance parameters (two terminal reliability, broadcast reliability, all terminal reliability, and multiple sources to multiple destinations reliability).
