Book A Course on Rough Paths

Download or read book A Course on Rough Paths written by Peter K. Friz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-26 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lyons’ rough path analysis has provided new insights in the analysis of stochastic differential equations and stochastic partial differential equations, such as the KPZ equation. This textbook presents the first thorough and easily accessible introduction to rough path analysis. When applied to stochastic systems, rough path analysis provides a means to construct a pathwise solution theory which, in many respects, behaves much like the theory of deterministic differential equations and provides a clean break between analytical and probabilistic arguments. It provides a toolbox allowing to recover many classical results without using specific probabilistic properties such as predictability or the martingale property. The study of stochastic PDEs has recently led to a significant extension – the theory of regularity structures – and the last parts of this book are devoted to a gentle introduction. Most of this course is written as an essentially self-contained textbook, with an emphasis on ideas and short arguments, rather than pushing for the strongest possible statements. A typical reader will have been exposed to upper undergraduate analysis courses and has some interest in stochastic analysis. For a large part of the text, little more than Itô integration against Brownian motion is required as background.

Book Rough Sets Fuzzy Sets Data Mining and Granular Computing

Download or read book Rough Sets Fuzzy Sets Data Mining and Granular Computing written by Dominik Slezak and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-09-19 with total page 764 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the papers selected for presentation at the 10th Int- national Conference on Rough Sets, Fuzzy Sets, Data Mining, and Granular Computing, RSFDGrC 2005, organized at the University of Regina, August 31st–September 3rd, 2005. This conference followed in the footsteps of inter- tional events devoted to the subject of rough sets, held so far in Canada, China, Japan,Poland,Sweden, and the USA. RSFDGrC achievedthe status of biennial international conference, starting from 2003 in Chongqing, China. The theory of rough sets, proposed by Zdzis law Pawlak in 1982, is a model of approximate reasoning. The main idea is based on indiscernibility relations that describe indistinguishability of objects. Concepts are represented by - proximations. In applications, rough set methodology focuses on approximate representation of knowledge derivable from data. It leads to signi?cant results in many areas such as ?nance, industry, multimedia, and medicine. The RSFDGrC conferences put an emphasis on connections between rough sets and fuzzy sets, granularcomputing, and knowledge discoveryand data m- ing, both at the level of theoretical foundations and real-life applications. In the case of this event, additional e?ort was made to establish a linkage towards a broader range of applications. We achieved it by including in the conference program the workshops on bioinformatics, security engineering, and embedded systems, as well as tutorials and sessions related to other application areas.

Book excerpt: Frank and Percy Talley of the 1st City of London Yeomanry (Rough Riders) were destined to leave England to take part in the last, and most costly, single-day battle of the Gallipoli Campaign, on 21 August 1915. In never-before published letters, the Talley brothers describe their training in England and their move to the East Coast to man the trenches there during the invasion scare of 1914 and the Zeppelin attack at Great Yarmouth. Their letters provide a rare insight into the activities of the yeomen in preparing for war, their transportation to Egypt and Suez and their expectation that they would be used in action at Gallipoli. After walking into a maelstrom of fire on 21 August 1915, the trooper-brothers were separated; each wrote home not knowing whether the other had survived. Both were wounded. Their letters from the Suvla trenches are brief but telling – the last, desperate battle for Gallipoli as seen through the eyes of two brothers from London.

Book Reasoning with Rough Sets

Download or read book Reasoning with Rough Sets written by Seiki Akama and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-30 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores reasoning with rough sets by developing a granularity-based framework. It begins with a brief description of the rough set theory, then examines selected relations between rough set theory and non-classical logics including modal logic. In addition, it develops a granularity-based framework for reasoning in which various types of reasoning can be formalized. The book will be of interest to all researchers whose work involves Artificial Intelligence, databases and/or logic.

Book The Rough Guide to Slovenia

Book excerpt: The brand-new Rough Guide to Slovenia is the definitive handbook to one of Europe''s smallest, yet most beguiling nations. The northernmost republic of the former Yugoslavia, straddles central Europe and the Balkans, and is said to be the greenest country on the continent. There''s a wealth of things to see and do. The guide covers the country in all the detail it deserves, with as much attention to the capital Ljubljana''s youthful culture and Baroque and Hapsburg architecture as to the stunning cave network at Postojna, the wilds of the Julian Alps and the charms of the Istrian coastline. There are maps and plans throughout and a full-colour introductory section listing the author''s favourite ''things not to miss''. The contexts section includes informed background on Slovenian history, folklore, music and wildlife.
