Book Instrumentation Reference Book

Download or read book Instrumentation Reference Book written by Walt Boyes and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-12-02 with total page 1086 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Instrumentation is not a clearly defined subject, having a 'fuzzy' boundary with a number of other disciplines. Often categorized as either 'techniques' or 'applications' this book addresses the various applications that may be needed with reference to the practical techniques that are available for the instrumentation or measurement of a specific physical quantity or quality. This makes it of direct interest to anyone working in the process, control and instrumentation fields where these measurements are essential. * Comprehensive and authoritative collection of technical information* Written by a collection of specialist contributors* Updated to include chapters on the fieldbus standards, reliability, EMC, 'virtual instrumentation', fibre optics, smart and intelligent transmitters, analyzers, level and flow meters, and many more

Book Dust Explosions

Download or read book Dust Explosions written by Jean Cross and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interest of the media in dust explosions increased considerably following two major grain-elevator disasters in the United States in 1979. However, these were not isolated incidents and were statistically unusual only in the high loss of life involved. Any oxidizable material that is dispersed in fine powder form may be explosive, and ignition sources with sufficient energy to ignite a dust cloud are easily produced in normal industrial processing. Dust fires and minor incidents are not uncommon in many industries, but fortunately the combination of events and circumstances that must coincide for a large-scale explosion arise only rarely. Nevertheless, this is often more by luck than by good management and many potentially hazardous situations are common in industry. An explosive dust cloud and the circumstances in which it can ignite are not as simple to define as the equivalent situation in gases or flammable vapors. A large number of definitions and experimental tests have been devised to characterize the explosibility of dusts and ignition sources. The aim of this book is to provide a guide describing conditions in industry that could lead to dust explosions and the means to avoid them. Ignition sources and the way in which they can arise in powder processing are discussed and illustrated by case histories of reported incidents. The methods by which the potential hazards of a process or product can be evaluated are described, with special attention paid to the interpretation of the results of the different experimental methods.

Book Condition Monitoring of Rotating Electrical Machines

Download or read book Condition Monitoring of Rotating Electrical Machines written by Peter Tavner and published by IET. This book was released on 2008-07-12 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A first edition of Condition Monitoring of Electrical Machines, written by Tavner and Penman, was published in 1987. The economics of industry have now changed, as a result of the privatisation and deregulation of the energy industry, placing emphasis on the importance of reliable operation of plant, throughout the whole life cycle, regardless of first cost. The availability of advanced electronics and software in powerful instrumentation, computers, and digital signal processors (DSP) has simplified our ability to instrument and analyse machinery. As a result condition monitoring is now being applied to a wider range of systems from fault-tolerant drives of a few hundred watts in the aerospace industry, to machinery of a few hundred megawatts in major capital plant." "In this new book the original authors have been joined by Ran, an expert in power electronics and control, and Sedding, an expert in the monitoring of electrical insulation systems. Together the authors have revised and expanded the earlier book, merging their own experience with that of machine analysts to bring it up to date."--BOOK JACKET.

Book Reliability in Instrumentation and Control

Download or read book Reliability in Instrumentation and Control written by John Charles Cluley and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both hardware and software aspects are addressed, making this book an essential guide for engineers in any environment where safety and reliability are critical factors. Control and instrumentation systems are increasingly used in situations where failure can involve a serious risk to life and property. Reliability is therefore a key attribute of these systems. The ways in which these systems have developed, methods for estimating reliability, and the relation between the performance of a complete system and its component parts are discussed in this extensive review. Examples of high-reliability systems in aircraft, nuclear installations and data handling are included. Both hardware and software aspects are addressed, making this book an essential guide for engineers in any environment where safety and reliability are critical factors. The author was formerly senior lecturer in the department of electrical and electronic engineering at Birmingham University, UK, and has written a number of books on microprocessors and systems, including 'Electronic Equipment Reliability' and 'Transducers for Microprocessor Systems'.
