Download or read book A Typical Woman written by Abigail Dodds and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2019-01-17 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Woman Through and Through In a culture that can belittle womanhood on the one hand—making it irrelevant—and glorify it on the other—making it everything—it’s hard to know what it really means to be a woman. But when we understand womanhood through the lens of Scripture, we see that we need a bigger category for what God has called “woman.” This book breathes fresh air into our womanhood, reminding us what life in Christ—as a woman—looks like. When we see that we are women in all we do, we can be at peace with how God has created us, recognizing womanhood as an essential part of Christ’s mission and work.
Download or read book The Shunammite Woman written by Larry Hammersley and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-02-26 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of the Shunammite Woman is based on the Old Testament scriptures 2 Kings 4:8-37 and 2 Kings 8:1-6. She is described as a great woman. She shows hospitality to the prophet Elisha and his servant, Gehazi as they pass through her village of Shunem on their way to Mt. Carmel. The Bible reveals that her husband is old and they have no children. When Elisha wants to reward her for the kindness she has shown to him, she asks nothing in payment. Her answer is simply, "I dwell among mine own people." Gehazi reveals to Elisha that her husband is old and she has no child. Elisha tells her she will have a son. The biblical account covers the birth of a son at the appointed time and later the son dies, apparently from a sun stroke. Elisha raises him from the dead. A famine is prophesied by Elisha and he tells her to leave until the seven years of famine is over. She chooses to go to the land of the Philistines. The fictional elements of the story cover how she meets her future husband at a market in Sidon which leads up to the account found in the Bible. Her seven years in the land of the Philistines involves another fictional account where she meets their king. While there she gives the king and the farmers the benefit of her crop planting experience and the Philistines farmland flourishes as a result. After the famine is over, she journeys back to Shunem and finds her house is occupied. King Joram restores her house and land, thus ending this story with the account in the Bible.
Download or read book Faith Hope and Love written by Robert W. Christensen and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book by Dr. Christensen is a Trilogy of his earlier books on those same three topics. FAITH: I suspect we all go through life wondering, what is faith? From the time we are just infants we have to believe for and have faith for all sorts of things. Will mother remember to feed me? Will I get picked up out of my crib today? To all sorts of things from that moment on. As we get instruction about God and our relationship with God, we then get to be a bit like the original disciples who made the statement to Jesus about increasing our faith. In Romans 10:8 we see the statement, "The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is the word of faith that we preach." But what is faith? In talking about it in the spiritual or religious realm, we are talking about having faith in God. If we say we have faith in God, are we really saying we can lay our lives down for God? To have complete faith in what he says, he will do? Total dependence on God just as when we were babies, we had total dependence on our mothers or fathers. So, now, if we have confessed Jesus as our Lord and Savior, are we willing to be obedient to His every command? Is that where faith begins? HOPE: Our hope is in fervently and completely trusting our Lord. In the 3rd Psalm, King David is fleeing from Absalom, his son who is out to slay him. Now, that is one serious circumstance which I am sure all of us can agree would cause discouragement and despair. David makes a number of statements in that Psalm which can give us hope, when it seems there is no hope. LOVE: The Bible has a great deal to say about Love and if we were to review the message and ministry of Jesus Christ, we would find the central theme has to do with love. It basically has to do with loving God and then loving your neighbor as yourself. Sounds easy doesn't? But it will likely take your whole life in your attempt to fulfill that command of the Lord.

He redirects our yearnings to focus on the greatest good: God. Ultimately, Smith seeks to re-vision education through the process and practice of worship. It's a road map toward true transformation that starts not with the individual but with the person at the journey's end--Jesus Christ. As with a marathon runner, the secret to finishing a race lies not in trying harder, but in training consistently--training with the spiritual disciplines. The disciplines are neither taskmasters nor ends in themselves. Rather they are exercises that build strength and endurance for the road of growth. The fruit of the Spirit--joy, peace, kindness, etc.--are the signposts along the way. Paved with humor and sparkling anecdotes, The Life You've Always Wanted is an encouraging and challenging approach to a Christian life that's worth living--a life on the edge that fills an ordinary world with new meaning, hope, change, and joy.

Download or read book Lead like Christ written by A.W. Tozer and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2021-07-13 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What Does Christ-Centered Leadership Look Like? As a Christian, does your leadership approach look any different from that of those who don't follow Christ? Throughout the Bible, God shows us what leadership looks in His kingdom, and sometimes it can seem upside-down. The first shall be last. The master shall be the servant. But how can we apply these counterintuitive truths in our world today? Rather than focusing on the nuts and bolts of management, Lead like Christ uses the book of Titus to take a close look at what biblical leadership entails. Using Paul's instructions to his young ministry partner as a guide, Tozer takes us through themes of grace, servanthood, spiritual boldness, and humility toward the Word of God. This foundation will lead to powerful, long-lasting change in both your own leadership role today as well as in God's eternal kingdom.
Download or read book The Soulmaking Room written by Dee Dee Risher and published by Upper Room Books. This book was released on 2016-04-01 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this personal story, Dee Dee Risher weaves experiences from her life with the biblical story of the prophet Elisha and the Shunammite woman. Risher is captivated by this spiritually attuned, generous, hospitable, honest, and bold woman. The woman from Shunem extends radical hospitality to the prophet, expecting no reward. But when disaster strikes, she does not hesitate to hold Elisha accountable or talk back. Hidden in the story, Risher believes, are the questions that lead to a more authentic life: What does it mean to build a holy room in our lives? How honestly do we confront our inevitable losses and griefs? As we work to transform our world, how do we grapple with failure? Do we have the kind of faith that can ask bold questions in the face of death? What openings does radical hospitality create in our lives? "Every human being goes through so much," Risher reflects, "and there is some heartbreakingly beautiful fruit we are to shape from that. That is our own unique, authentic gift to the world." Her book encourages each of us to find a holy room in which we are in community with others and where we can shape our souls into their unique dimensions. We each need a space for this work-a soulmaking room. "If we cannot deal with failure, if we do not know how to put our deepest losses in our holy room, and if we do not know who our people are, we can never fully join the joy and power of God's story," Dee Dee Risher asserts. Embark with her on the adventure of creating and discovering the joys of The Soulmaking Room.
