Peter takes on a 3 month contract in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It is at this time whilst the engineer is carrying out his work on a rooftop site, one Friday morning that he makes a sinister discovery. Whilst looking in one of the three rooftop outbuildings for spare parts, the engineer discovers something very sinister, a terrorist sleeper cell. Apart from weaponry, concealed with a blanket, and other suspicious objects, he discovers a manual with disturbing data. There are names of prominent MPs (POLITICIANS?), addresses, dates, newspaper cuttings, and what appears to be, planned attacks for some time into the near future, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the UK and USA. Peter hurriedly takes the manual back to his hotel, where he photocopies some of the pages, as evidence for the British security authorities. On his return to the rooftop site, he finds it impossible to replace the book, as the four occupants of the outbuilding have returned. He therefore, has to conceal the book, and he returns to the radio room. The terrorists soon discover their precious manual missing, and over the course of time, the engineer, under suspicion, is followed, spied upon, hounded, and gradually, matters go from bad to worse, with unexpected twists and turns along the way... Throughout the book there is a thread of tragedy, sorrow, emotion, humour, and in some cases a spiritual element. The reader is kept in suspense as to what will happen next, with an unexpected outcome!

But there is something underneath these events and players that fuels atrocity after atrocity in the Middle East. What is it? Tass Saada provides the answer to that question as he delves into the mind of terror, explaining what motivates extremist groups throughout the Middle East. Book Troubling Masculinities

Download or read book Troubling Masculinities written by Glen Donnar and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2020-07-23 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Troubling Masculinities: Terror, Gender, and Monstrous Others in American Film Post-9/11 is the first multigenre study of representations of masculinity following the emergence of violent terror as a plot element in American cinema after September 11, 2001. Across a broad range of subgenres—including disaster melodrama, monster movies, postapocalyptic science fiction, discovered footage and home invasion horror, action-thrillers, and frontier westerns—author Glen Donnar examines the impact of “terror-Others,” from Arab terrorists to giant monsters, especially in relation to cinematic representations in earlier periods of national turmoil. Donnar demonstrates that the reassertion of masculinity and American national identity in post-9/11 cinema repeatedly unravels across genres. Taking up critical arguments about Hollywood’s attempts to resolve male crisis through Orientalizing figures of terror, he shows how this failure reflects an inability to effectively extinguish the threat or frightening difference of terror. The heroes in these movies are unable to heal themselves or restore order, often becoming as destructive as the threats they are supposed to be fighting. Donnar concludes that interrelated anxieties about masculinity and nationhood continue to affect contemporary American cinema and politics. By showing how persistent these cultural fears are, the volume offers an important counternarrative to this supposedly unprecedented moment in American history.

Book Cinematic Sociology

Download or read book Cinematic Sociology written by Jean-Anne Sutherland and published by Pine Forge Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sociology Through Film uses feature films to teach central areas in sociology such as culture, race/ethnicity, social class, and gender/sexuality. By using Film to introduce the sociological imagination, students will 'experience' social context being studied, and reinforce critical thinking skills. An introductory chapter includes a discussion of the significance of film in modern society, a consideration of the ways that film both reflects and shapes social reality, an explanation of how sociologists analyze film, and coverage of sociological tools for 'reading' film as text. Films will provide an illustrative framework for understanding the social world, and therefore the films discussed will not go 'out of date'.
