Book Hesitant Histories on the Romanian Screen

Download or read book Hesitant Histories on the Romanian Screen written by László Strausz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-20 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues that hesitation as an artistic and spectatorial strategy connects various screen media texts produced in post-war Romania. The chapters draw a historical connection between films made during the state socialist decades, televised broadcasts of the 1989 Romanian revolution, and films of the new Romanian cinema. The book explores how the critical attitude of new Romanian cinema demonstrates a refusal to accept limiting, binary discourses rooted in Cold War narratives. Strausz argues that hesitation becomes an attempt to overcome restrictive populist narratives of the past and present day. By employing a performative and mobile position, audiences are encouraged to consider conflicting approaches to history and social transformation.

Book The Holocaust in South Eastern Europe Historiography Archives Resources and Remembrance

Download or read book The Holocaust in South Eastern Europe Historiography Archives Resources and Remembrance written by Adina Babeş – Fruchter and published by Vernon Press. This book was released on 2021-06-01 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many decades, the Holocaust in South-Eastern Europe lacked the required introspection, research and study, and most importantly, access to archives and documentation. Only in recent years and with the significant help of an emerging generation of local scholars, the Holocaust from this region became the focus of many studies. In 2018, under the European Holocaust Research Infrastructure umbrella, the Elie Wiesel National Institute for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania organized a workshop dedicated to Holocaust research, education and remembrance in South-Eastern Europe. The present volume is a natural continuation of the above-mentioned workshop with the aim of introducing the current state of Holocaust research in the region to different categories of scholars in the field of Holocaust studies, to students and—why not—to the general public. Our scope, not an exhaustive one, is to present a historical contextualization using archival resources, to display the variety of recordings of discrimination, destruction and rescue efforts, and to introduce the remembrance initiatives and processes developed in the region in the aftermath of the Holocaust.

Book Myth Identity and Conflict

Download or read book Myth Identity and Conflict written by Anamaria Dutceac Segesten and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2011 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Myth, Identity, and Conflict: A Comparative Analysis of Romanian and Serbian Textbooks, by Anamaria Dutceac Segesten, is an examination of how history and politics became entangled in Romania and Serbia. Segesten's findings confirm the presence of mythologized versions of the past in the history textbooks of both countries over the entire fifteen-year period studied (1992-2007), despite claims for professionalization of textbook-making. Ultimately, Myth, Identity, and Conflict, by Anamaria Dutceac Segesten, questions the alleged power of history textbooks to make a difference in ethnically divided societies prone to conflicts.

Book Enterprise Guidance in Eastern Europe

Download or read book Enterprise Guidance in Eastern Europe written by David Granick and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-03-08 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sixties were a decade of major reform in the guidance of industry in the socialist countries of Eastern Europe. In this comparative study of industrial management, the different directions taken by reform in the German Democratic Republic, Hungary, and Yugoslavia are examined against the pattern shown by Romania, a country in which no significant reform has occurred. The author focuses on the methods used to coordinate enterprises in the early 1970s. The book is the product of a remarkable opportunity: eleven months of interviews in the four countries. Those interviewed were mainly middle and upper managers of enterprises, but also include officials of ministries, planning commissions, banks, trade unions, and national Communist parties. The resulting data made possible new interpretations of enterprise management in Eastern Europe. Originally published in 1976. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. Book Force Majeure in the Hydropower Industry

Download or read book Force Majeure in the Hydropower Industry written by Daniel Constantin Diaconu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-22 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to highlight the particular situation faced by certain hydropower companies by the fact that they cannot fulfil their contracts due to force majeure. The first part of this book will be an analysis of how water is used in electricity production. It is important to point out that all types of energy sources use water, to a different extent, of course, and that its spatial and temporal availability is very important. The focus will be on hydropower, presenting the current situation at the global level, and the effect of reducing the amounts of water in the river system. The second part is based on the presentation of the concept of force majeure and the ways of presenting and drafting it in a contract. Many disputes or the success of a contract depended heavily on the provisions of this article of the contract. Obviously, there are also situations in which the signatory parties abuse or are not protected by these provisions of force majeure. Starting from a few brief examples from the international level, we reach a wide discussion of the situation created in Romania, when the largest supplier of electricity produced on the basis of water terminates several contracts invoking force majeure. The manner in which the opinion of the parties involved is presented to the court is analyzed and presented in detail.

Book The Red Army in Romania

    Book Details:

  • Publisher : Histria Books
  • Release : 2022-07-01
  • ISBN : 1592111211
  • Pages : 174 pages

Download or read book The Red Army in Romania written by Constantin Hlihor Hlihor and published by Histria Books. This book was released on 2022-07-01 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Red Army in Romania is the first comprehensive study of the Soviet occupation of Romanian territory in 1940-1941, and its occupation of the country at the end of World War II, which lasted until Soviet troops withdrew from the country in 1958. Based on previously unavailable archival sources, it sheds light on the occupation policies of the Red Army and Soviet policy in Eastern Europe generally at the end of World War II. The authors, both well-known historians, discuss the geopolitical and historical conditions that allowed the Red Army to occupy Romania. They analyze the consequences of the occupation on the country, particularly on political life, as it led to the establishment of a Communist regime in Romania. The Red Army in Romania is a valuable book for students and researchers alike. Constantin Hlihor is a professor of history at the University of Bucharest and a researcher at the Center for Euro-Atlantic Studies and at the Academy for Military Studies in Bucharest. Ioan Scurtu is a professor of history at the University of Bucharest and former director of the Romanian National Archives.
