Book excerpt: Sproul's sermons at St. Andrew's Chapel are the foundation of these never-before-published expositions on Paul's epistle to the Romans. Chrysostom had it read aloud to him once a week. Augustine, Luther, and Wesley all came to assured faith through its impact. The Reformers saw it as the God-given key to understanding the whole of Scripture. Throughout church history the study of the book of Romans has been pivotal to understanding Christian life and doctrine. Convinced that "Paul's fullest, grandest, most comprehensive statement of the gospel" is just as vital today, R. C. Sproul delivered nearly sixty sermons on Romans from October 2005 to April 2007 at St. Andrew's Chapel, where he has pastored for more than a decade. These never-before-published, passage-by-passage expositions will enrich any study of this weighty epistle. Part of the St. Andrew's Expositional Commentaries series.

Book Lattices and Ordered Sets

Download or read book Lattices and Ordered Sets written by Steven Roman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-12-15 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to be a thorough introduction to the subject of order and lattices, with an emphasis on the latter. It can be used for a course at the graduate or advanced undergraduate level or for independent study. Prerequisites are kept to a minimum, but an introductory course in abstract algebra is highly recommended, since many of the examples are drawn from this area. This is a book on pure mathematics: I do not discuss the applications of lattice theory to physics, computer science or other disciplines. Lattice theory began in the early 1890s, when Richard Dedekind wanted to know the answer to the following question: Given three subgroups EF , and G of an abelian group K, what is the largest number of distinct subgroups that can be formed using these subgroups and the operations of intersection and sum (join), as in E?FßÐE?FÑ?GßE?ÐF?GÑ and so on? In lattice-theoretic terms, this is the number of elements in the relatively free modular lattice on three generators. Dedekind [15] answered this question (the answer is #)) and wrote two papers on the subject of lattice theory, but then the subject lay relatively dormant until Garrett Birkhoff, Oystein Ore and others picked it up in the 1930s. Since then, many noted mathematicians have contributed to the subject, including Garrett Birkhoff, Richard Dedekind, Israel Gelfand, George Grätzer, Aleksandr Kurosh, Anatoly Malcev, Oystein Ore, Gian-Carlo Rota, Alfred Tarski and Johnny von Neumann.

  • Pages : 510 pages

Download or read book Night of the Wolf written by Alice Borchardt and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2002-03-05 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Silver Wolf, Alice Borchardt's acclaimed novel of a shapeshifter's struggle to survive as woman and wolf amid the Dark Ages, announced the arrival of a ferociously gifted writer. Now, with her masterful weaving of adventure, history, and magic, Borchardt delves deeper into the shape-shifter legend, and brings an earlier, more savage time brilliantly to life. The fearsome legions of Julius Caesar have crushed resistance to Roman rule. The power of the druids is broken; the shattered tribes retreating to the dubious safety of the high mountains or fleeing north into lands as inhospitable as those left behind. Watching all the while through yellow eyes afire with curiosity and intelligence is Maeniel, a gray wolf . . . who is also a man. This is not the Maeniel of The Silver Wolf. Not the mature shapeshifter, secure in his dual nature, whose hard-won wisdom is the equal of his preternatural strength and passion. That Maeniel will not exist for another eight hundred years. Now he is a stranger to his human half, his reason chained to instinct. Yet as the ancient civilization of the Gallic tribes is systematically destroyed around him, a new Maeniel is about to be born from the ruins. It begins with a woman. She is Imona: young, proud, beautiful. The sight of her fills Maeniel with unfamiliar feelings and desires, triggering his transformation from wolf to man. In her arms he learns for the first time what it means to love. It is a knowledge that will change him forever. For when Imona vanishes following a Roman massacre, Maeniel begins to learn a very different lesson. Following Imona's trail as wolf and man, Maeniel is himself pursued by a warrior woman sworn to kill him. She is Dryas, a queen without a kingdom. But the two adversaries will prove to have much in common. And the hunt upon which they embark will lead them farther than they can imagine: to the gates of Rome itself. To the gates of their very souls . . . With Night of the Wolf, Alice Borchardt has given us another triumph of soaring imagination and adventure. By turns lyrical, sensuous, and violent, hers is a vision of the past that will stir both heart and mind. Her writing will possess you like a fever . . . and haunt you like a voluptuous dream.

Download or read book The Roman Pilgrimage written by George Ngondo and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-02-23 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Without doubt, the book of Romans is one of the hardest books in the bible to study and understand and I took one of Derek Princes advice's that 'you cannot get the full richness of this book if you read it casually.' The book of Romans, if read purposefully and carefully, reveals deep spiritual truths about the Gospel of Christ and how we can apply it to our lives to live a victorious life. This book is a compilation of all the teachings I took from studying the epistle of Romans using Derek Prince's teachings on this subject matter. I view the epistle of Romans, as it is in the bible, as a compression of the full Gospel of Christ. In this book, I have expounded the epistle of Romans using Derek Prince's teachings to make it easy for every Christian to read and understand. The book takes a sermon-like-form and is laden with examples from Derek Prince's teachings and references from many parts of the bible including the new and the Old Testament. This book can be richly used for personal study, for meditation, for exhortation, for sermon preparation and for bible study lesson preparation. It provides an easy read for every Christian who yearns to live a victorious life in Christ. My personal testimony is that as I walked through life in salvation, there were still many areas of my life in which I struggled. Deep inside me, I knew that there must be something more to salvation that could afford me to live a victorious life. As I took to this study, I received deep revelation about the truth of the cross and as I learnt how to apply these truths, God delivered me from many of my weaknesses, challenges, and bad habits.God can do the same for you too. If you are experiencing any great challenge in any area of your life and prayer doesn't seem to get you anywhere, maybe it is time for you to delve into this truth, for it is written: "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (John 8:32)
