Book Roger Hudson Solo Guitar Works Volume 1 1988 1999

Download or read book Roger Hudson Solo Guitar Works Volume 1 1988 1999 written by Roger Hudson and published by Roger Hudson Solo Guitar Works. This book was released on 2020-01-09 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 22 original compositions for solo classical or fingerstyle guitar. All titles composed by Roger Hudson between the years 1988-1999. This collection represents the earliest efforts to put my musical ideas for solo guitar on the written page. Many of the pieces in this collection are in older popular styles (blues, rags, etc.). Some pieces in this book are definitely heavier than others. It certainly is not a collection of easy pieces. I have always composed what I enjoy composing and have never given too much thought to difficulty or whether or not a piece is deemed "concert-worthy". My compositional pendulum freely swings from the simple to traditional to more esoteric without much concern. Whether at casual or formal performances, many of my original pieces were, and still are, regularly intermingled with standard repertoire. As far as categorization, I will leave it up to those who sense the duty to determine what could be considered "classical" as opposed to "fingerstyle". In 1994, About half of the pieces featured here were included in my first album release called Guitarchitecture. In The Guitar Foundation of America's journal Soundboard, classical/microtonal guitarist John Schneider reviewed the CD and spoke of "many gorgeous moments". So, at least in that case, the academic leaning classical guitar world seemed to like my music. Experience has shown that my compositions are also liked by a cadre of fingerstyle guitarists. Because of this I am offering separate versions of this collection in tablature as well as standard notation - in an attempt to please everyone!

Book More Brilliant than the Sun

Download or read book More Brilliant than the Sun written by Kodwo Eshun and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2020-02-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The classic work on the music of Afrofuturism, from jazz to jungle More Brilliant than the Sun: Adventures in Sonic Fiction is one of the most extraordinary books on music ever written. Part manifesto for a militant posthumanism, part journey through the unacknowledged traditions of diasporic science fiction, this book finds the future shock in Afrofuturist sounds from jazz, dub and techno to funk, hip hop and jungle. By exploring the music of such musical luminaries as Sun Ra, Alice Coltrane, Lee Perry, Dr Octagon, Parliament and Underground Resistance, theorist and artist Kodwo Eshun mobilises their concepts in order to open the possibilities of sonic fiction: the hitherto unexplored intersections between science fiction and organised sound. Situated between electronic music history, media theory, science fiction and Afrodiasporic studies, More Brilliant than the Sun is one of the key works to stake a claim for the generative possibilities of Afrofuturism. Much referenced since its original publication in 1998, but long unavailable, this new edition includes an introduction by Kodwo Eshun as well as texts by filmmaker John Akomfrah and producer Steve Goodman aka kode9.

Book Led Zeppelin

  • Publisher : Quarto Publishing Group USA

Download or read book Led Zeppelin written by Martin Popoff and published by Quarto Publishing Group USA. This book was released on 2018-08-21 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just in time for their 50th anniversary, Led Zeppelin breaks down one of the world’s most prolific bands—track by track, album by album—in this expanded edition, revised to include rarities, outtakes, and B-sides from their storied catalog?. Formed by the unlikely alliance of two ace London studio musicians and two bar-band bumpkins from the north, Led Zeppelin went on to create the template for the modern marauding rock ’n’ roll band. Though Zeppelin is often described as “heavy,” any true fan will tell you that the band’s catalog is actually a complex amalgam of blues, psychedelia, rock, folk, and country that reflect the specific influences carried by each of Led Zeppelin’s four members. Veteran music journalist Martin Popoff picks apart each of these 81 studio tracks, as well as a slew of non-album tracks in exquisite detail, and, for the first time ever, he analyzes the circumstances that led to their creation, the recording processes, the historical contexts, and more. Celebrate Led Zeppelin's 50th anniversary with this veneration of the band's extensive catalog of rock music.
