His most recent work describes the paranoid perception as well as the paranoid structure of today's world. He is the first to so strikingly transpose the symptoms of this situation into an aesthetic. Klauke's photographs reflect the fundamental conditions of a fearful existence in scenes that range from the austerely minimalist to the excessive and occasionally surreal. He employs everyday materials as tools to create his scenes, succeeding in shaping a concentrated view of the absurdity of life. Chicago-based photographer Laura Letinsky (born 1962) used Polaroid Type 55 film as part of her working process until the film was discontinued in 2008, exploring focus, composition, exposure and light in black-and-white instant photographs as she worked up to the larger-scale color works for which she is best known. Like sketches, the photographs in this volume--small, slow and raw--reveal a process of asking. This way or that? More or less? Now or then? A Polaroid is a fugitive thing, beautiful in its decomposition, subject to change as much as the still life compositions of ripe fruits and nibbled foods that Letinsky arranges. Time's Assignation collects Polaroids taken by the photographer in her studio between 1997 and 2008, now stabilized, their high-key tones slipping into white veils and darker tones metallized in hues of taupe, gold and gunmetal gray. These photographs offer a record of Letinsky's working process, but are a compelling body of photographic work in their own right, exploring time's unrelenting progression in their subject matter and materiality.

His international career, affluent patrons, and insatiable curiosity enabled him to create a diverse range of prints and drawings, remarkable for their varied subject matter and exceptional technical qualities. Hollar's oeuvre includes cities and fortifications, portraits, religious subjects, politics, mythology, architecture, heraldry and numismatics, antiquarian relics, costume, maps, sports, classical literature, landscape views, 'Old Master' drawings and paintings, and natural history. His work invokes his close observation of, and engagement with, the natural world, as much as the society of his times. Unfortunately, Hollar has received less attention than many of his contemporaries. He has all too often been undervalued as being primarily a 'reproductive printmaker' - one who reproduces in print the designs of others, or simply copies paintings into print. This volume seeks to revise how Hollar has formerly been characterized, through an exploration of hitherto unexamined drawings, as well as the more innovative qualities of his printmaking. It includes new research on Hollar's biography and his patrons, fresh perspectives on Hollar's portraits and urban scenes, and insights into Hollar's forays into the natural world. Partly the outcome of a 2010 symposium held at the Thomas Fisher Rare Books Library at the University of Toronto (repository of third largest collection of Hollar prints), this book comprises contributions from nine international print scholars, from Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, England, and The Netherlands. Their work on Hollar reaffirms his importance not only to the history of printmaking, but also to the art, science and culture of his times.
