Book excerpt: Controversy about the Catholic priesthood is nothing new. Just like laity, priests (including bishops and popes) have always been sinners. Some priests, like some laity, have caused grave scandal throughout the 2000-year history of the Church. Two questions arise from this reality. Why did Jesus Christ establish a ministerial priesthood for his Church, if the priesthood would sometimes cause scandal—what did he intend for the priesthood? Second, what has the Catholic Church in past times done about scandal in the priesthood—how has the Church corrected its priests and encouraged priests to lead lives of holiness? Amidst the noisy din of talking heads and self-proclaimed experts, this book offers solid warnings and directions about the priesthood from 15 saints of the past two millennia. On the Priesthood serves as a readable guide for priests, seminarians, and educated readers seeking to learn more about the simultaneous unworthiness and dignity of the priesthood. Always challenging and penetrating, the selections unite around one key point; the need for holiness.

Part 1 is kingdom keys for succeeding in life, and part 2 is principles for success. The book has seven chapters in whole. The book is all about succeeding in life, and there are pathways you must follow to get there. Apparently, success is not a destination but a movement upward from one level to the next level. Success can become a failure when you dont continue moving forward. Success of yesterday can become failures of today, if there is no further progress. Through this book, you will understand that failure is a confession, as success is. So when you say it is impossible, you become a failure indeed. Even God cannot help you until you change your confession. Failure is the beginning of success because it tells you to try it again. And in doing it again, you win. Through this book, you will also learn how to invest in Gods kingdom, obey his word, and manage your life and time in others to get to your wealthy place. There is a wealthy place God has prepared for you, and he wants you to get there. The pathway to success is summed up in the following: Dont lose the sight of God. You will learn that if you loss the sight of God, you will lose sight of greatness. King Uzziah lost sight of God as well as Apostle Judas Iscariot. Both never became great. Succeeding through the force of labor. You will understand that your wealth, success, or prosperity is traceable to your assignment or Gods purpose you are carrying out. There is no entitlement in title bearing. It is the work you do that bears the title and brings about your wealth. Invest in the kingdom of God. Here in this chapter, you will learn how to serve God properly. You will also know that if you dont service your purpose, your purpose will become purposeless. Kingdom investment is what brings life increment. Whatever that is saved in Gods hands is secured and generates wealth. There is a bank of heaven and given is the channel through which you store up treasures in the bank and righteousness is the medium through which you activate it for withdrawal, and through the name of Jesus withdrawal is made possible. Patience is a divine factor that stabilizes your faith for effective performance in any given areas of life. Obedience is one of the spiritual tests for succeeding in life. You will get to understand that when you obey Gods Word, natural and even spiritual things will obey you. Application is the scientific way of getting answers to any equations of scientific nature, and so it is in the kingdom of God. Manage your life. You will know that God created you to be a leader and a manager. Management is the key to enthronement. You will manage your life through planning, organizing, directing, and controlling. Manage your time wisely. You will get to understand that time is the currency of life and the key to fulfillment. Time management is the proper use of time to achieve all your goals and prioritizing them according to importance. Time management will help you prioritize, know your objective, plan very well, and then schedule your task. Discipline helps to maintain sanity and prepares one for future glory.

Book The Good Shepherd Gentle Guide and Gracious Host

Download or read book The Good Shepherd Gentle Guide and Gracious Host written by Patrick Allen and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-03-19 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Good Shepherd, Gentle Guide, and Gracious Host is a collection of fifteen discipleship meditations, organized around three metaphors from the Twenty-Third Psalm. Why does the Twenty-Third Psalm connect so profoundly with the human spirit, whether we are grieving, hoping, or suffering? The answer has much to do with the approachable, inviting metaphors for God that are expressed in this psalm--the good shepherd, the gentle guide, and the gracious host, as well as the full range of human emotions that rise up within us when we read them. Each chapter contains a powerful personal story told by one of the Northwest's best storytellers, an inviting meditation from a line of the psalm, the wisdom of Scripture, some words of practical advice, and questions for reflection and discussion. Suited for personal devotions or small discipleship groups, The Good Shepherd, Gentle Guide, and Gracious Host invites all of us to an adventure of grace, healing, and hope, seeing God as approachable, good, loving, and kind. As our understanding of God's love and care matures, our spiritual journeys will take on a new character, too. This book will highlight the path ahead, providing fence posts, guide posts, and lamp posts as we make our way home.

Book excerpt: My name is Lisa Allen. Prior to cancer the world seemed dark and full of sorrow. As I traveled down what was thought to be my final path in life I found myself instead on a journey. It was a search for the truth. As I began this search for the truth I began to ask many questions. Was there really a heaven? Was there really a hell? Was God real? Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would find what I found. I found a savior, a physician, a friend, a father, a confidant, a protector, and the compassionate, merciful, loving, healing, helping hand of God. There are many types of cancers in the world today. Each one holds its captive in bondage. The good news is the truth shall one day set them all free. If they search for the truth they will find him. His name is Jesus. He is the way, the truth and the life. Today I am Cancer free and I am free from sin. My family and I now serve God in every aspect of our lives. My purpose in life is to lead others down the road to a life worth living free from every form of bondage that exists. The key is the Bible and when you get down on your knees Jesus opens the door.
