Download or read book Rock of Recovery Overcoming Trauma Christian Enabler Addiction Recovery written by Angie G. Meadows and published by Thousand Tears, LLC. This book was released on 2021-12 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recognizing our trauma wounds and retraining our inner core to think and respond differently is essential in recovery. Many wounds are harbored in our subconscious thinking. Any new wound that mimics an old wound or trauma gives us an exaggerated emotion and we revert to core destructive emotional patterns. Many wounds develop in childhood and are left untreated. Betrayal, abandonment, rejection, neglect, abuse, misunderstood, unstable environments, unstable relationships, sexual abuse are a few deep inner wounds which could create exaggerated emotions and stunt emotional growth. These wounds fester and create feelings of internal chaos. Children do not have the emotional structure to handle these wounds. This is where unhealthy core patterns develop. This book will assist in developing emotional maturity skills of being responsible to identify and heal our inner wounds. We will explore mental prisons, mind control, carnal/spiritual mind, and carnal/spiritual heart. Retraining inner emotions changes our thoughts patterns and develops new core patterns of love, joy, and lasting peace. These emotional skills can give us the strength to pursue lasting recovery.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A spirit and soul disconnect is obvious when you learn to recognize it. Anything that causes emotional suffering and anxiety is a spiritual disconnect. I must disconnect from my true self to connect to anxiety and emotional suffering, then I have abandoned my own self. This scenario makes me vulnerable to relapse of substance use disorder to run from the internal pain. Learning to understand the function of your spirit and soul is essential to recovery. Emotional regression is common until we can identify and practice nurturing our fragmented parts. Chronic anxiety and depression are common with disconnect. Next, we will learn how to stop identifying with oppressive negativity, and change our emotional thinking and understand our obsessing. Conquering self-destructive thinking is essential to finding peace. Learning to suffer well without disconnecting from our inner self is a maturity skill taught in lesson twelve. Other lessons will include, finding an emotional compass, tearing down strongholds, understanding an immature conscience, becoming steadfast and much more.

Download or read book The Uncovery written by George A. Wood and published by Whitaker House. This book was released on 2022-07-26 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When it comes to Christ-centered recovery, we, the church, have work to do. Our legalistic, box-checking, one-size-fits-all programs produce astonishingly high failure rates—which means far too many people are left to fight addiction, mental health problems, and suicidal thoughts on their own. This begs some critical questions of the church: • Do we really believe transformational recovery and healing is possible? • Do we really have the right systems and structures to support struggling people? • Do we really carry a kingdom responsibility to restore people gently? • Do we really take time to ask God what more He would have us do in the recovery space? This book is for anyone who can’t offer a resounding yes and amen to each of those questions. With hearts that beat for those struggling with addictions and mental health issues, authors George A. Wood and Brit Eaton present: • A critical reframing of the word “recovery” and an invitation to answer God’s call for more spirit-led, trauma-informed ministry • Deeper exploration into the origins of addiction, mental health problems, and suicidal thoughts—and the church’s responsibility to bring God’s healing • Powerful supernatural testimonies and stories of hope, healing, and life restoration as a result of embracing The Uncovery • Practical strategies to help Christ-centered recovery leaders bridge the gap between spiritual and scientific communities to better serve struggling people • A loose and helpful framework for embracing The Uncovery message • Inspiration for recovery leaders to love and lead in a more inclusive, sacrificial, and Christlike manner while maintaining healthy self-care The goal of The Uncovery is to help the church—and the world—see recovery through a grace- laced, gospel lens. Some say recovery is the civil rights movement of our generation because believe it or not, recovery is for everyone. And if that statement bothers you? Recovery might be for you, too. Every single one of us has some trauma or issue from our past that may still be affecting our life today. This book offers readers a not-so-subtle nudge to go deeper in the recovery space for a transformative encounter with Father God to heal from those wounds and lead the promised land life He has planned for us.

Book The Myth of Normal

  • Author : Gabor Maté, MD
  • Publisher : Penguin
  • Release : 2022-09-13
  • ISBN : 059308389X

Download or read book The Myth of Normal written by Gabor Maté, MD and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2022-09-13 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The instant New York Times bestseller By the acclaimed author of In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts, a groundbreaking investigation into the causes of illness, a bracing critique of how our society breeds disease, and a pathway to health and healing. In this revolutionary book, renowned physician Gabor Maté eloquently dissects how in Western countries that pride themselves on their healthcare systems, chronic illness and general ill health are on the rise. Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug; more than half take two. In Canada, every fifth person has high blood pressure. In Europe, hypertension is diagnosed in more than 30 percent of the population. And everywhere, adolescent mental illness is on the rise. So what is really “normal” when it comes to health? Over four decades of clinical experience, Maté has come to recognize the prevailing understanding of “normal” as false, neglecting the roles that trauma and stress, and the pressures of modern-day living, exert on our bodies and our minds at the expense of good health. For all our expertise and technological sophistication, Western medicine often fails to treat the whole person, ignoring how today’s culture stresses the body, burdens the immune system, and undermines emotional balance. Now Maté brings his perspective to the great untangling of common myths about what makes us sick, connects the dots between the maladies of individuals and the declining soundness of society—and offers a compassionate guide for health and healing. Cowritten with his son Daniel, The Myth Of Normal is Maté’s most ambitious and urgent book yet.

Book Trauma and the 12 Steps Revised and Expanded

Download or read book Trauma and the 12 Steps Revised and Expanded written by Jamie Marich and published by North Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2020-07-07 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An inclusive, research-based guide to working the 12 steps: a trauma-informed approach for clinicians, sponsors, and those in recovery. Step 1: You admit that you're powerless over your addiction. Now what? 12-step programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) have helped countless people on the path to recovery. But many still feel that 12-step programs aren't for them: that the spiritual emphasis is too narrow, the modality too old-school, the setting too triggering, or the space too exclusive. Some struggle with an addict label that can eclipse the histories, traumas, and experiences that feed into addiction, or dismisses the effects of adverse experiences like trauma in the first place. Advances in addiction medicine, trauma, neuropsychiatry, social theory, and overall strides in inclusivity need to be integrated into modern-day 12-step programs to reflect the latest research and what it means to live with an addiction today. Dr. Jamie Marich, an addiction and trauma clinician in recovery herself, builds necessary bridges between the 12-step's core foundations and up-to-date developments in trauma-informed care. Foregrounding the intersections of addiction, trauma, identity, and systems of oppression, Marich's approach treats the whole person--not just the addiction--to foster healing, transformation, and growth. Written for clinicians, therapists, sponsors, and those in recovery, Marich provides an extensive toolkit of trauma-informed skills that: Explains how trauma impacts addiction, recovery, and relapse Celebrates communities who may feel excluded from the program, like atheists, agnostics, and LGBTQ+ folks Welcomes outside help from the fields of trauma, dissociation, mindfulness, and addiction research Explains the differences between being trauma-informed and trauma-sensitive; and Discusses spiritual abuse as a legitimate form of trauma that can profoundly impede spirituality-based approaches to healing.

Sharing our perspectives helps us all grow stronger, together. These meditations continue the tradition of Hazelden’s beloved series of daily readings by providing moments of recognition, confession, and healing for those who are realizing that recovery rarely follows a neat or comfortable path. Along the way, we plant beautiful roses only to be injured by their thorns, and we pull up unwanted dandelions that, at times, are our only source of wishes. By sharing the realities we never expected our families to face, mothers of addicted children support each other through experiences that can only be feared and imagined by others. From our shared struggles emerge opportunities for personal growth. Tending Dandelions is a vital source of wisdom, support, and strength that helps us begin our own journey of recovery. “We all need to take a closer look at the things we’ve avoided—the things lurking around in this place where love and addiction meet—so we’re as strong as we can be.” —Sandra Swenson, author of Tending Dandelions

Book Addict in the Family

Download or read book Addict in the Family written by Beverly Conyers and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-10-26 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The family recovery classic, Addict in the Family, has been revised and updated to offer parents and other family members even greater support when faced with the reality of a loved one’s addiction. Solid, actionable advice and information about what helps and what doesn’t—and how to care for themselves—make this an indispensable guide. For families of addicts, fear, shame, and confusion over a loved one’s addiction can cause deep anxiety, sleepless nights, and even physical illness. The emotional distress family members suffer is often compounded by the belief that they somehow caused or contributed to their loved one’s addiction—or that they could have done something to prevent it. Addict in the Family is a book about the pain of addiction, but more importantly it is a book of comfort, understanding, and hope for anyone struggling with a loved one’s addiction. As the compelling personal stories reveal, family members do not cause their loved one’s addiction—nor can they control or cure it. What family members can do is find support, set boundaries, detach with love, and eventually discover how to enjoy life more fully. This book helps them do just that—whether the loved one achieves recovery or not.
