Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fifteen years have passed since I was working at a dam site super vising grouting work. That was not the first time that I had to car ry out engineering geological investigations for several similar projects, which always included testing programmes to find out the permeability of the rock, and often I was in charge of grouting work. It thus attracted my attention when this particular grouting programme did not run as intended: most of the grout holes took only very little grout! It could not be the aim of the invested work simply to drill holes and fill them again without bringing about any further improvement. Fortunately, I had the chance to be en gaged in many other grouting programmes in the following years and used all these examples to analyse as thoroughly as possible the permeability of the rocks being treated in view of their grout ability. The more I studied, the stronger my conviction grew that our rules which had decided the grouting of rock for many de cades should be developed further, and therefore I occupied my self with contributing some ideas for a new basis to investigation and judgment of permeability of rock and for a more adequate application of this technology.

Download or read book Rock Grouting and Diaphragm Wall Construction written by J. Verfel and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 533 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The foundation of structures and the construction of underground railways in urban areas would be impossible without the use of diaphragm walls, grouting, anchors, micropiles, slender retaining walls, etc. Based on the author's own experience and taking into account the findings of various other authors, this book explains these methods in an intelligible manner, enabling the reader to judge for himself their suitability in construction practice. The aim of the book is to instruct experts in the correct application of grouting methods, and the correct choice of drilling systems and tools. It provides mainly practical information, and describes the most suitable, up-to-date technology available. Grouting applications in Czechoslovakia and abroad are illustrated by a series of practical examples. The book is designed for students of civil engineering faculties specializing in structural foundation, specialists of building companies, and experts in structural foundation. It will also be appreciated by experts in underground railway and tunnel construction, in structural engineering and urban development (landslides), as well as by manufacturers of the respective technology.
Download or read book Practical Guide to Grouting of Underground Structures written by Raymond W. Henn and published by Thomas Telford. This book was released on 1996 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Practical Guide to Grouting of Underground Structures presents a hands-on discussion of grouting fundamentals and provides a foundation for the development of practical specifications and field procedures. Employing a pragmatic approach to the subject of grouting, Raymond W. Henn concentrates on areas such as the types of drilling, mixing and pumping equipment, and their application. The book focuses on how cementitious grouting is used in conjunction with the excavation and lining of tunnels, shafts, and underground caverns in rock. Overviews of cementitious grouting in soils and chemical grouting are also provided. Topics covered range from record keeping to quality control and testing requirements, field operations, and production rates. Practical Guide to Grouting of Underground Structures is written as a useful handbook for engineers, construction supervisors, inspectors, and other professionals involved in the planning, design, and implementation of underground grouting programs.

Download or read book Rock Fractures and Fluid Flow written by Committee on Fracture Characterization and Fluid Flow and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1996-09-10 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific understanding of fluid flow in rock fractures--a process underlying contemporary earth science problems from the search for petroleum to the controversy over nuclear waste storage--has grown significantly in the past 20 years. This volume presents a comprehensive report on the state of the field, with an interdisciplinary viewpoint, case studies of fracture sites, illustrations, conclusions, and research recommendations. The book addresses these questions: How can fractures that are significant hydraulic conductors be identified, located, and characterized? How do flow and transport occur in fracture systems? How can changes in fracture systems be predicted and controlled? Among other topics, the committee provides a geomechanical understanding of fracture formation, reviews methods for detecting subsurface fractures, and looks at the use of hydraulic and tracer tests to investigate fluid flow. The volume examines the state of conceptual and mathematical modeling, and it provides a useful framework for understanding the complexity of fracture changes that occur during fluid pumping and other engineering practices. With a practical and multidisciplinary outlook, this volume will be welcomed by geologists, petroleum geologists, geoengineers, geophysicists, hydrologists, researchers, educators and students in these fields, and public officials involved in geological projects.
