Book Roadblock Politics

Download or read book Roadblock Politics written by Peer Schouten and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2022-01-20 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are so many roadblocks in Central Africa that it is hard to find a road that does not have one. Based on research in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Central African Republic (CAR), Peer Schouten maps more than a thousand of these roadblocks to show how communities, rebels and state security forces forge resistance and power out of control over these narrow points of passage. Schouten reveals the connections between these roadblocks in Central Africa and global supply chains, tracking the flow of multinational corporations and UN agencies alike through them, to show how they encapsulate a form of power, which thrives under conditions of supply chain capitalism. In doing so, he develops a new lens through which to understand what drives state formation and conflict in the region, offering a radical alternative to explanations that foreground control over minerals, territory or population as key drivers of Central Africa's violent history.

Book Roadblocks in Acting

Download or read book Roadblocks in Acting written by Rob Roznowski and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-09-16 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This original, incisive book examines questions relating to the self-imposed barriers – or roadblocks – that actors place on their work. Rob Roznowski demonstrates how roadblocks often limit and constrain actors from accessing the emotional availability required in their unique craft. He then offers a systematic approach for achieving peak performance in order to defeat the self-doubt that can hinder actors. He also offers guidance for educators and directors to compassionately assist actors toward gaining freedom. Incorporating perspectives from psychological consultants, the book book co-mingles psychology and acting theory in a unique way, presenting practical strategies for dealing with a range of roadblock issues that actors face daily, including anxiety, intimacy, self-esteem and trust. This is an ideal resource for practitioners, instructors, and students of acting, theatre and performance at any level.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Once a journey for self-understanding has begun, there is inevitably a struggle against real change. Inner roadblocks on both sides of the couch impede the journey of psychoanalytic psychotherapy. The pressure to repeat the past in the present, including the attachments to pain and the difficulty of letting go of abusive relations (both internal and external) are enemies of growth and change. These roadblocks (resistances) and the forms they take are explored and illustrated in Roadblocks on the Journey of Psychotherapy. Book jacket.

Book Stop and Search

    Book Details:
  • Author : Leanne Weber
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2014-06-11
  • ISBN : 1317981146
  • Pages : 149 pages

Download or read book Stop and Search written by Leanne Weber and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-11 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Police powers to stop, question and search people in public places, and the way these powers are exercised, is a contentious aspect of police-community relations, and a key issue for criminological and policing scholarship, and for public debate about liberty and security more generally. Whilst monitoring and controlling minority populations has always been a feature of police work, new fears, new ‘suspect populations’ and new powers intended to control them have arisen in the face of instability associated with rapid global change. This book synthesises and extends knowledge about stop and search practices across a range of jurisdictions and contexts. It explores the use of stop and search powers in relation to street crime, terrorism and unauthorised migration in Britain, North America, Europe, Australia, Africa, and Asia. The book covers little researched practices such as road-blocks and ID checking, and discusses issues such as fairness, effectiveness, equity and racial profiling. It provides a substantive and theoretical foundation for transnational and comparative research on police powers in a global context. This book was originally published as a special issue of Policing and Society.

Book Handbook of Police Administration

Download or read book Handbook of Police Administration written by James Ruiz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-25 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As figureheads of the most visible segment of criminal justice, today’s police administrators are forced to tackle challenges never faced by their predecessors. Heightened local and global threats, advanced technologies, and increased demands for procedural transparency require new levels of flexibility, innovative thinking, and the ability to foster and maintain relationships within the community. It is more crucial than ever to recruit and retain capable leaders to guide law enforcement agencies at this pivotal time in history. Covering areas such as leadership in policing, use of force, and understanding how the law shapes police practice, Handbook of Police Administration examines the key topics that must be considered by law enforcement professionals. Recognizing that police leaders need the skills and traits of a politician, accountant, attorney, field lieutenant, and futurist, the authors cover a variety of contemporary issues surrounding police administration and management. Divided into five thematic sections, it considers the legal aspects of overseeing a public sector organization, as well as how research, technology, and training can assist modern police leaders in performing their duties more effectively and efficiently. The book covers problematic issues such as officers accepting gratuities, undercover work, and the time criteria required for promotional consideration. It concludes with a chapter comparing administrative issues in Australia with many of the subjects previously addressed with regard to U.S. protocol. Using a range of perspective, differing viewpoints, and controversial issues, Handbook of Police Administration provides a springboard to stimulate discussion at the cutting-edge of debate in the dynamic field of policing.
