Book excerpt: Seth Joe-Bob Dancer, gunfighter, road agent, and killer was now a rancher, devoted husband, and father of two sons, one nineteen, the other now seventeen; and they were his life! Having left who he once was far behind him, his new role in life was one of happiness and most times uneventful, that is until his eldest son was murdered in Dallas, Texas, and his youngest blamed for the crime! Dancer had changed his name before the Civil War on the day he married Laura and, together, raised two strapping sons. He had not worn his gun since war's end, had in fact not thought of his violent past, until now! He had not fired the sidearm in almost eighteen years, but now, his son was dead! He didn't know what to expect when he went to Dallas; he only knew he had to see about it! He did, however, know that his youngest son was innocent, and the only way to save him was to find the real killer. But how? Dallas was a town almost completely under the thumb of organized crime, and the law was either helpless to combat it or was on the syndicate's payroll or had been blackmailed into submission. After reconstruction, the federal government's policy was not to interfere with local politics unless asked or shown proof of reasons why they should, but the people of Dallas were too afraid to ask for that help, and the syndicate bosses had possession of the proof! Seth Mabry remembered only one thing from his mother's Bible teachings, and that one thing became his religion. He believed in an eye for an eye, and if he was wronged, he would collect!

Book excerpt: “A Day in the Life” is a gripping, coming-of-age memoir in the same realm as “Platoon” and “Born on the Fourth of July.” The story captures snapshot events during the first 19 years of Walt Madigan’s life as he attended 12 years of Catholic school in Los Angeles; then Community College in February, 1966. He was living the “good life” in Southern California, surfing at least 3 days a week and attending college classes, when he was suddenly drafted into the US Army in August, 1966. Soon he found himself in Vietnam serving as a combat infantryman with the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). The narrative captures the terror and exhilaration, and the brutal realities of what it was like for a young man at war. It’s a story of day-by-day survival, and Private Madigan’s faith in God that ultimately guided him through the biggest test of his life: to survive as a “Boonie Rat” in the 1st Air Cav and return back to The World in one piece.

Me, fated to a demon prince? Not a chance. Not that it matters, especially with the impending beasties of doom invasion on our horizon. Then there's Discord, the final piece of the puzzle that could save everyone's lives. We can't summon him without some mystical amulet he lost in Salem four centuries ago. Because that should be easy to find, right? Sheesh. Hecate, have mercy. We'll need it.

Book excerpt: Fenn Cooper is a journalist in trouble. His boss has given him one last chance to write a riveting story or lose his job. He decides to write about the eccentric people who work at a travelling circus in Ithaca, New York, where silent movies where once made. There he meets Zena, a "little person" fortune teller with uncanny abilities, and her friend Holey John, a Vietnam vet whose act is piercing his flesh for five bucks a pop, as penitence for what he imagines he did in Nam. Marvin Brinks, a Hollywood exec for a big-time movie production company, also finds himself in trouble when he stumbles upon a one-hundred-year old contract his company inherited from a long forgotten silent movie company that was based in Ithaca. Wording in the contract would trigger an audit, and an audit would expose him for embezzling millions of dollars from the company. When he realizes that several copies of the contract are missing, he hires an assassin to find the contracts and kill any heirs. As Fenn begins to write his story, he uncovers a connection between the long-forgotten contracts and a series of recent unsolved murders. What's more, he realizes that Zena and Holey John could be the killer's next victims. As these players converge in Ithaca, a deadly game of car and mouse ensues. Will Fenn uncover Marvin Brinks secrets and stop the murders before Zena and Holey John become the killer's next victim?
