Book The Load Distribution in Bolted and Riveted Joints in Light alloy Structures

Download or read book The Load Distribution in Bolted and Riveted Joints in Light alloy Structures written by F. Vogt and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains a theoretical discussion of the load distribution in bolted or riveted joints in light-alloy structures which is applicable not only for loads below the limit of proportionality but also for loads above this limit. The theory is developed for double and single shear joints. The methods given are illustrated by numerical examples and the values assumed for the bolt (or rivet) stiffnesses are based partly on theory and partly on known experimental values. It is shown that the load distribution does not vary greatly with the bolt (or rivet) stiffnesses and that for design purposes it is usually sufficient to know their order of magnitude. The theory may also be directly used for spot-welded structures and, with small modifications, for seam-welded structures, The computational work involved in the methods described is simple and may be completed in a reasonable time for most practical problems. A summary of earlier theoretical and experimental investigations on the subject is included in the report.

Book The Influence of the Diameter Ratio on the Characteristics Diagram of the Axial Compressor

Download or read book The Influence of the Diameter Ratio on the Characteristics Diagram of the Axial Compressor written by Bruno Eckert and published by . This book was released on 1948 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the further development of axial blowers into highly loaded flow machines, the influence of the diameter ratio upon air output and efficiency gains in significance. Clarification of this matter is important for single-stage axial compressors, and is of still greater importance for multistage ones, and particularly for aircraft power plants. Tests with a single-stage axial blower gave a decrease in the attainable maximum pressure coefficient and optimum efficiency as the diameter ratio increased. The decrease must be ascribed chiefly to the guide surface of the hub and housing between the blades increasing with the diameter ratio.

Book Strength of Materials and Structures

Download or read book Strength of Materials and Structures written by John Case and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strength of Materials and Structures: An Introduction to the Mechanics of Solids and Structures provides an introduction to the application of basic ideas in solid and structural mechanics to engineering problems. This book begins with a simple discussion of stresses and strains in materials, structural components, and forms they take in tension, compression, and shear. The general properties of stress and strain and its application to a wide range of problems are also described, including shells, beams, and shafts. This text likewise considers an introduction to the important principle of virtual work and its two special forms—leading to strain energy and complementary energy. The last chapters are devoted to buckling, vibrations, and impact stresses. This publication is a good reference for engineering undergraduates who are in their first or second years.

Book excerpt: This book highlights the fundamentals and latest progresses in the research and applications of laser shock peening (LSP). As a novel technology for surface treatment, LSP greatly improves the resistance of metallic materials to fatigue and corrosion. The book presents the mechanisms, techniques, and applications of LSP in a systematic way. It discusses a series of new progresses in fatigue performance improvement of metal parts with LSP. It also introduces lasers, equipment, and techniques of newly developed industry LSP, with a detailed description of the novel LSP blisk. The book demonstrates in details numerical analysis and simulation techniques and illustrates process stability control, quality control, and analysis determination techniques. It is a valuable reference for scientists, engineers, and students in the fields of laser science, materials science, astronautics, and aeronautics who seek to understand, develop, and optimize LSP processes.

Book Riveted Lap Joints in Aircraft Fuselage

Download or read book Riveted Lap Joints in Aircraft Fuselage written by Andrzej Skorupa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-06-23 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue of the pressurized fuselages of transport aircraft is a significant problem all builders and users of aircraft have to cope with for reasons associated with assuring a sufficient lifetime and safety, and formulating adequate inspection procedures. These aspects are all addressed in various formal protocols for creating and maintaining airworthiness, including damage tolerance considerations. In most transport aircraft, fatigue occurs in lap joints, sometimes leading to circumstances that threaten safety in critical ways. The problem of fatigue of lap joints has been considerably enlarged by the goal of extending aircraft lifetimes. Fatigue of riveted lap joints between aluminium alloy sheets, typical of the pressurized aircraft fuselage, is the major topic of the present book. The richly illustrated and well-structured chapters treat subjects such as: structural design solutions and loading conditions for fuselage skin joints; relevance of laboratory test results for simple lap joint specimens to riveted joints in a real structure; effect of various production and design related variables on the riveted joint fatigue behaviour; analytical and experimental results on load transmission in mechanically fastened lap joints; theoretical and experimental analysis of secondary bending and its implications for riveted joint fatigue performance; nucleation and shape development of fatigue cracks in riveted longitudinal lap joints; overview of experimental investigations into the multi-site damage for full scale fuselage panels and riveted lap joint specimens; fatigue crack growth and fatigue life prediction methodology for riveted lap joints; residual strength predictions for riveted lap joints in a fuselage structure. The major issues of each chapter are recapitulated in the last section.
