Thanks to a careless fall off his horse, he is now on crutches - out of training and a job. Not to mention he’s had to promise Brooklyn he’ll back off so they could be just friends, which is the last thing he wants. The worst part is he knows she’s into him too; she’s as much as admitted it. And that kiss… There is no denying their chemistry after that kiss at the costume dance. But he can’t date a student and he balked when she asked him if he was willing to risk it all to be with her. Now that his job and training are on hold, his outlook has changed and he’s beginning to realize what really matters and what he wants from his life. Maybe that girl who showed up on campus and turned his heart inside out is worth risking everything for after all. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Risking It All for Her Boss by Sharron McClellan Heroes for Hire: Big Risk. Big Reward. No Regrets. When High Risk Securities (HRS) agent, Eva Torres, botches an undercover job by failing to rescue both of the kidnap victims she was sent to retrieve, Quinn Blackwood—her former lover and the man who broke her heart—pulls her and one of the victims out of harm's way. As a penalty for her sins, she's offered the dull job of escorting a former bio-chemical warfare scientist to Washington D.C. to reunite with his daughter. Much to her displeasure, the job of monitoring her assignment is given to Quinn. Quinn isn't thrilled with the situation either. He taught Eva everything he knew about secrets, sex, and lies—but the biggest lie of all was the one he'd told himself: that his missions for HRS were more important than anything, including his relationship with Eva. Because now that they're working together again, the urge to put his hands on her, to feel her beneath him, is killing him. Things only get worse when their current operation goes wrong, and the scientist they're guarding is kidnapped mid-air. Now, Eva and Quinn have to work together to find him before he is forced to create a monstrous weapon that could destroy entire cities. A hard task made more difficult when they find themselves fighting both the enemy and their building desire for each other. Can they work together for the sake of the mission without reigniting the passion between them—or will passion be the salvation of them all?
Download or read book To Risk It All written by Michael McConnell and published by University of Pittsburgh Press. This book was released on 2020-10-20 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: General John Forbes’s campaign against Fort Duquesne was the largest over-land expedition during the Seven Years’ War in America. While most histories of the time period include the Forbes Campaign as an aside, McConnell documents how and why Forbes and his army succeeded, and what his success meant to the subsequent history of the mid-Atlantic colonies, native inhabitants of the Ohio Country, and the empire he represented. A close look at the Forbes Campaign and its personnel reveals much about both British relations with native peoples and the nature of Britain’s American empire during a time of stress. Unlike other campaigns, this one was composed largely of colonial—not professional British—troops. In addition, individual colonies negotiated their role in the campaign and frequently placed their own local interests ahead of those of the empire as a whole. The campaign thus suggests the limits of imperial power and how Britain’s hold over its American frontiers was, at best, tenuous and helped lead to an eventual break-down of empire in the 1760s and 1770s.

Download or read book A Practical Way to Get Rich and Die Trying written by John Roa and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2020-09-08 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A scathingly honest memoir of entrepreneurship's dark reality... I would advise every entrepreneur--or anyone who dreams of becoming one--to read this book." --Eric Schurenberg - CEO, Fast Company and Inc. A young tech entrepreneur's memoir of building his hugely successful company and the mental and physical price he paid for it At the age of twenty-six, John Roa was an aspiring but struggling entrepreneur. He was broke, racking up debt, and ready to give up on his dream of being self-made. In a final effort, he founded the design firm ÄKTA, which quickly became one of the fastest growing startups in America, and just five years later, he sold it for a fortune to Salesforce, the largest company in San Francisco. This is his account of rising from a self-described below-average student to becoming a poster boy for the successful young entrepreneur, while nearly destroying himself in the process. His journey is an absurd, twisting, and often comical story of talent, luck, rapidly changing technology, larger-than-life personalities, sex, gambling, and excessive alcohol and drug consumption—which ultimately took their toll, resulting in a spectacular burnout that he almost didn’t survive. As he healed in the aftermath, he began to question the ethos that had brought him to that dark place, and over time, came to realize how common these debilitating issues are in entrepreneurship, even if they are rarely discussed openly. Rather than another glamorous rags-to-riches saga, A Practical Way to Get Rich . . . and Die Trying is a cautionary and deeply honest memoir about the price of success for ambitious young people, who are so often unprepared for the adversity, mental health issues, and abuse that can come along with “making it.” It also serves as the foundation for a campaign of honesty and vulnerability, in an industry that currently lacks both.
