Book excerpt: Apart from the others, behind the stove, a small, haggard man in a little worn black coat sat somewhat bent over; one of his shoulders seemed a little deformed. He had not taken part with a single word in the conversation of the others, but his eyes, fringed as they were with dark lashes, although the scanty hair on his head was grey, showed clearly that he was not sitting there to sleep.

Book Riding Lucifer s Line

Download or read book Riding Lucifer s Line written by Bob Alexander and published by University of North Texas Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Texas-Mexico border is trouble. Haphazardly splashing across the meandering Rio Grande into Mexico is--or at least can be--risky business, hazardous to one's health and well-being. Kirby W. Dendy, the Chief of Texas Rangers, corroborates the sobering reality: "As their predecessors for over one hundred forty years before them did, today's Texas Rangers continue to battle violence and transnational criminals along the Texas-Mexico border." In Riding Lucifer's Line, Bob Alexander, in his characteristic storytelling style, surveys the personal tragedies of twenty-five Texas Rangers who made the ultimate sacrifice as they scouted and enforced laws throughout borderland counties adjacent to the Rio Grande. The timeframe commences in 1874 with formation of the Frontier Battalion, which is when the Texas Rangers were actually institutionalized as a law enforcing entity, and concludes with the last known Texas Ranger death along the border in 1921. Alexander also discusses the transition of the Rangers in two introductory sections: "The Frontier Battalion Era, 1874-1901" and "The Ranger Force Era, 1901-1935," wherein he follows Texas Rangers moving from an epochal narrative of the Old West to more modern, technological times. Written absent a preprogrammed agenda, Riding Lucifer's Line is legitimate history. Adhering to facts, the author is not hesitant to challenge and shatter stale Texas Ranger mythology. Likewise, Alexander confronts head-on many of those critical Texas Ranger histories relying on innuendo and gossip and anecdotal accounts, at the expense of sustainable evidence--writings often plagued with a deficiency of rational thinking and common sense. Riding Lucifer's Line is illustrated with sixty remarkable old-time photographs. Relying heavily on archived Texas Ranger documents, the lively text is authenticated with more than one thousand comprehensive endnotes.

Book The White Horse and His Rider

Download or read book The White Horse and His Rider written by Pen-Sword Pen-Sword and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The White Horse and His Rider: Which Being Interpreted Is Truth Triumphant "A country had better be physically devastated than morally ruined." - Beule. "Ring out old shapes of foul disease. Ring out the narrowing lust of gold, Ring out the thousand wars of old, Ring in the thousand years of peace." - In Memoriam. "One touch of nature makes the whole world kin." When we see a fellow human falling on the tracks before an oncoming train we do not stop to ask, "Is he a Jew; a Catholic; a Moslem, or a Protestant?" We rescue him. In the extremis, his creed, his country or his color are nothing; his jeopardy is all. This tome is written by a citizen of the world, possibly partly Teutonic, as are many citizens of all the Anglo-Saxon countries, one attached to no secret society or order, ecclesiastical, social or political, of any kind whatsoever, and is for American and Briton, Austrian and German, Frenchman and Russian, Italian and Belgian, Serbian and Jap, Turk and Bulgarian, and for all those nations which have hitherto existed mainly by the sufferance of the World Powers, and for Asia and Africa and the islands of the sea. It is an answer to the question, "Whence and wherefore these agonies, these tears, this blood?" It is to show from the only Book that is of universal import, acceptance and power, the prophecies concerning all nations and covering two to four thousand years past, that relate to the great war, that show its principals and culprits, its duration and end, its victors and its world-wide fruitage. It is for the glory of God in whom we all believe, the peace on earth for which we all yearn, and for that good will among men which is now at hand. The White Horse of Revelation means the triumph of truth, and thus to-day not only the Gospel but the Telegraph, the Telephone, the Submarine Cable, Wireless Telegraphy and the Universal Press are publishing truth in all the earth, every lie is nailed to the counter, and there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed and nothing hid that shall not be shouted from the housetops. Book excerpt: The kingdom of heaven is at hand, which means you should be rejoicing—but only if you’ll be among those to survive the End of Days. Harvey E. One-Wolf presents an in-depth study of God’s Word, seeking to explain why and when the end of days will occur in this detailed study. By examining the life of Isaac Newton, who sought knowledge and truth from the originator of the universe through the Holy Scriptures, he answers questions such as: • How soon will the End of Days be? • What will we see leading up to it? • Has the day of wrath already started? • What can individuals do to ensure they are among God’s chosen? Newton—as well as other great thinkers whose ideas are highlighted in this book—believed the universe was designed by a perfect intelligence, rather than being haphazard and arbitrarily contrived, as many finite thinkers believe today. As every day passes, we move closer to the day of Satan’s authority and the end of the world. Learn the pathways that lead to the living waters of everlasting life with A Visionary’s Vision.

Book The Book of Revelation from Alpha to Omega

Download or read book The Book of Revelation from Alpha to Omega written by Roy Martin and published by Tate Publishing. This book was released on 2011-04 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book of Revelation From Alpha to Omega is like no other book you have ever read. It is a book that will take you through the full spectrum of your emotions. It will make you want to love, hate, fight, and cry—all at the same time. It reveals the 'people side' of the book in the Bible that we call Revelations. Contrary to what you might believe about God, he is people oriented. People are the only creatures that God made in his own image. So it stands to reason that people are dear to God's heart. The Book of Revelation From Alpha to Omega is primarily about people. It is about those things that God desires to do for people. It is about those things that people will have to deal with if they ignore what God is offering them. It is about those things that have happened, will happen, and are now happening to all nations, tribes, and tongues. It is about the mark of the beast—who the beast is, what the mark is, and the purpose for the mark. It is about the war being fought in the arena of commerce, a war about which God is trying to warn us in order for us to be prepared. It is like a trumpet calling people to prepare for battle, which destined to be awesome, the likes of which the world has never seen heretofore. The author of The Book of Revelation From Alpha to Omega realizes that some will disagree with what he has written. He respects your rights to disagree, but he does not offer a refund of the purchase price if you disagree with what he has written.
