His is a clarity that rings constantly through the warmth and wry reality of these sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic, always human remembrances.

Download or read book My Father s Guide for Prostate Cancer written by Ricky Wuorenma and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-06-04 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book started out in 2010 as a private retirement project for the kids. It expanded into writing about the health benefits of eating real food after listening to what the grandchildren were eating in school. Then came the big announcement day. “Rick...you have cancer,” and the time clock for enjoying a full retirement promptly crashed and burned. Out of the ashes came the revelation that men are dying from prostate cancer and all I see and hear is a women’s cancer message. I was then motivated to share what the prostate cancer stage IV(c), Gleason score of 9 announcement felt like from a type-A personality, goal-setting man. Now a guide, the pages tell the story right up to when the time it takes for a half-day of production takes three days of rest and pain pills. Brutal is not a big enough word. Read the guide and soak in this fact. All men will have prostate cancer by age eighty-four. So says my oncologist. Suffer the consequences of not paying attention to the numbers and not going for a complete physical after age thirty-five. My red light flashed bright when I heard from the urologist the blood in my semen will go away in a couple of weeks. It did. The cancer did not. The year was 2011. I should have insisted further testing be done and closer follow-up visits be scheduled.

Download or read book A White Minority in Post civil Rights Mississippi written by Thomas Adams Upchurch and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 2005 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Thomas Adams Upchurch presents the true story of a white youth's experiences with race relations in the early years of integration in Mississippi. Upchurch, a first-generation product of the integrated public schools in Mississippi, describes what it was like to be white in a public school that was 70% black. The book offers a glimpse into the triumphs, challenges, and failures of integration in the 1970s and 1980s and beyond, from one 'white minorityOs' perspective. By analyzing the factors of prejudice, academics, sports, masculinity, religion, and attempts at racial reconciliation, this book vividly shows why race relations must be kept in the context of the larger picture of southern life and society. It hopes to bring more attention to this little-discussed and infrequently written-about period and topic of American history.

Download or read book The Black Prairie Archives written by Karina Vernon and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2020-02-19 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Black Prairie Archives: An Anthology recovers a new regional archive of “black prairie” literature, and includes writing that ranges from work by nineteenth-century black fur traders and pioneers, all of it published here for the first time, to contemporary writing of the twenty-first century. This anthology establishes a new black prairie literary tradition and transforms inherited understandings of what prairie literature looks and sounds like. It collects varied and unique work by writers who were both conscious and unconscious of themselves as black writers or as “prairie” people. Their letters, recipes, oral literature, autobiographies, rap, and poetry- provide vivid glimpses into the reality of their lived experiences and give meaning to them. The book includes introductory notes for each writer in non-specialist language, and notes to assist readers in their engagement with the literature. This archive and its supporting text offer new scholarly and pedagogical possibilities by expanding the nation’s and the region’s archives. They enrich our understanding of black Canada by bringing to light the prairies' black histories, cultures, and presences.
