The agro-climatic situation prevailing across the zones favours rice cultivation in the state. Change in productivity is basically technological and hence, more promising. Therefore, a quantitative assessment of growth and instability as well as adoption pattern of technologies assumes significance in the context of agricultural development in the state. In an agrarian state like Assam, assessment of food security status is of great importance in the backdrop of the higher population growth due to natural growth and influx of people from other states of India and neighbouring countries. In the present study, an attempt has been made to assess the rice production system in Assam with critical analysis of changes in production technologies, adoption, asset acquisition and food security status of rice farmers. The book will be useful to research scholars, policy makers and agricultural planners.

For the study purpose we use the time series data (1970-2010) for the respective variables of the study. While we have taken yearly average temperature and yearly average rainfall as a climate variable, where these two variable are also the independent variable of the study along with area of rice cultivation in hectare, area covered by HYV (High Yielding Varieties) seeds in hectare, area covered by irrigation facility in hectare, fertilizer consumption in kg per hectare and average area of land holding in hectare. We used the Cob-Douglas production function in the form of log-log model and the multiple regression counterparts for the analysis, the Cob-Douglas production function technique is the most appropriate for the agricultural sector research. Here it shows, climate as a production input for the agricultural crop productivity. The estimated result shows that the increasing temperature has a negative impact on the productivity of the major crop rice and rainfall has a positive impact on the productivity of this crop in Assam.
