Book Rhodium Catalysed Asymmetric Ring Opening of Oxabicyclic Alkenes and Diastereoselective Ring Opening of Epoxides with Heteroatom Nucleophiles

Download or read book Rhodium Catalysed Asymmetric Ring Opening of Oxabicyclic Alkenes and Diastereoselective Ring Opening of Epoxides with Heteroatom Nucleophiles written by Keith Fagnou and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oxabenzonorbornadienes were shown to undergo asymmetric ring opening with a variety of alcohol, phenol and activated amine nucleophiles in the presence of catalytic amounts of [Rh(COD)Cl]2 and chiral diphosphine ligands. The product dihydronaphthalenols were produced in 73-99%ee. Extension of this methodology to 'o'-halophenols required changing the rhodium source to [Rh(CO)2Cl]2. These products were applied to the synthesis of benzodihydrofurans. In order for carboxylates and unactivated amines to induce ring opening, the addition of a proton source was required. Enantioselectivities of up to 74% and 81% were observed for the amine and the carboxylate ring opened products respectively. These products were applied towards the synthesis of 1,4-dihydronaphthalenols. Vinyl Epoxides were shown to undergo diastereoselective ring opening reaction with alcohols and aromatic amine nucleophiles in the presence of catalytic amounts of [Rh(CO)2Cl]2. The 'trans '-1,2-alkoxyalcohols and aminoalcohols were produced in >80% yield and >20:1 diastereoselectivity.

This book was released on 2005-01-18 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has its origins in courses taught by the author to various und- graduate and graduate students at the Indian Institute of Technology, K- pur, India. The diversity of inorganic chemistry and its impact on polymer chemistry has been profound. This subject matter has grown considerably in the last decade and the need to present it in a coherent manner to young minds is a pedagogic challenge. The aim of this book is to present to the students an introduction to the developments in Inorganic and - ganometallic polymers. This book is divided into eight chapters. Chapter 1 provides a general overview on the challenges of Inorganic polymer synthesis. This is f- lowed by a survey of organic polymers and also includes some basic f- tures of polymers. Chapters 3-8 deal with prominent families of inorganic and organometallic polymers. Although the target group of this book is the undergraduate and graduate students of chemistry, chemical engineering and materials science it is also hoped that chemists and related scientists in industry would find this book useful. I am extremely thankful to my wife Sudha who not only encouraged me throughout but also drew all the Figures and Schemes of this book. I also thank my children Adithya and Aarathi for their constant concern on the progress of this book. I express my acknowledgment to the editorial team of Springer-Verlag for their cooperation.

Download or read book Homogeneous Hydrogenation written by P.A. Chaloner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Homogeneous hydrogenation is one of the most thoroughly studied fields of homogeneous catalysis. The results of these studies have proved to be most important for an understanding of the underlying principles of the activation of small molecules by transition metal complexes. During the past three decades homogeneous hydrogenation has found widespread application in organic chemistry, including the production of important pharmaceuticals, especially where a sophisticated degree of selectivity is required. This volume presents a general account of the main principles and applications of homogeneous hydrogenation by transition metal complexes. Special attention is devoted to the mechanisms by which these processes occur, and the role of the recently discovered complexes of molecular hydrogen is described. Sources of hydrogen, other than H2, are also considered (transfer hydrogenation). The latest achievements in highly stereoselective hydrogenations have made possible many new applications in organic synthesis. These applications are documented by giving details of the reduction of important unsaturated substrates (alkenes, alkynes, aldehydes and ketones, nitrocompounds, etc.). Hydrogenation in biphasic and phase transfer catalyzed systems is also described. Finally, a discussion of the biochemical routes of H2 activation highlights the similarities and differences in performing hydrogenation in both natural and synthetic systems. For researchers working in the fields of homogeneous catalysis, especially in areas such as pharmaceuticals, plastics and fine chemicals.

Book Photochemistry and Photophysics of Coordination Compounds II

Download or read book Photochemistry and Photophysics of Coordination Compounds II written by Vincenzo Balzani and published by Springer. This book was released on 2007-08-07 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photochemistry (a term that broadly speaking includes photophysics) is abranchofmodernsciencethatdealswiththeinteractionoflightwithmatter and lies at the crossroadsof chemistry, physics, and biology. However, before being a branch of modern science, photochemistry was (and still is today), an extremely important natural phenomenon. When God said: “Let there be light”, photochemistry began to operate, helping God to create the world as wenowknowit.Itislikelythatphotochemistrywasthesparkfortheoriginof life on Earth and played a fundamental role in the evolution of life. Through the photosynthetic process that takes place in green plants, photochemistry is responsible for the maintenance of all living organisms. In the geological past photochemistry caused the accumulation of the deposits of coal, oil, and naturalgasthat wenowuseasfuels.Photochemistryisinvolved inthecontrol ofozoneinthestratosphereandinagreatnumber ofenvironmentalprocesses thatoccurintheatmosphere, inthesea, andonthesoil.Photochemistryisthe essenceoftheprocessofvisionandcausesavarietyofbehavioralresponsesin living organisms. Photochemistry as a science is quite young; we only need to go back less than one century to ?nd its early pioneer [1]. The concept of coordination compound is also relatively young; it was established in 1892, when Alfred Werner conceived his theory of metal complexes [2]. Since then, the terms coordination compound and metal complex have been used as synonyms, even if in the last 30 years, coordination chemistry has extended its scope to the binding ofall kinds of substrates [3, 4].
