Book excerpt: "As part of Israel's acceptance into the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) in 2010, the OECD's Employment, Labour, and Social Affairs Committee published a review of Israel's labour market and social policies. The review contained 16 key recommendations for improvements in Israel's labour market and social policies in five broad areas: 1. The enhancement of employment opportunities for disadvantaged populations 2. Reducing gaps in education 3. The development of public infrastructures, such as transportation, in the periphery 4. The expansion and reform of pension coverage 5. The status of foreign workers in the labour market. Israel was asked to submit a progress report to the OECD on the implementation of the recommendations within two years of its joining. In 2012, the report was prepared under the auspices of the Minister of Economy with the assistance of the Myers-JDC-Brookdale Institute (MJB). In 2015 Israel was asked to prepare an additional report updating on the progress since 2012. Once again, the report was prepared with the assistance of the Institute. While the first report gave extensive detail on the issues and the various efforts to address the recommendations, the current report is shorter and focuses on the main changes that have since taken place"--

Book Mediterranean Migration and the Labour Markets

Download or read book Mediterranean Migration and the Labour Markets written by Salvatore Capasso and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-15 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on issues that are relevant for the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership. The depth and the extension of the current political crisis in the area have changed the perspectives of conventional Euro-Mediterranean integration policies. The book provides the grounds for new patterns of analysis and addresses policy guidelines which are able to respond to the dramatic challenges that Mediterranean regions are facing. By implementing a multidisciplinary approach, the volume uncovers the structural determinants of migrations in the area: territorial and social imbalances, climate change, unemployment, weak institutions, poor governance, lack of efficient redistributive policies. Each chapter proposes innovative and rich analyses of the socio-economic conditions of all Mediterranean countries. The prevailing evidence suggests that while the North-South imbalances still persist inside the basin, the recent world economic and financial crises have deepened social, intergenerational and gender inequalities. These inequalities cross all territories both nationally and internationally and affect the living conditions of large segments of population in Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries. To bridge these gaps it is necessary to strengthen territorial cohesion, reduce income differentials, and improve the access of marginal areas to basic infrastructure. These long term goals can be achieved through an inclusive development model for which young people and women can enjoy the same opportunities of education and work. Offering innovative and practical guidelines for future programs and policies, this book is essential reading for policy makers, researchers at policy think tanks as well as academics and post graduate students of Mediterranean studies and Economic Policy. The general policy recipes, provided to govern migration flows, make useful reading for national and international research centres and major governmental agencies interested in migration issues.

This book was released on 2017-01-12 with total page 683 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing countries may not have full-fledged welfare states like those we find in Europe, but certainly they have welfare state systems. For comparative social policy research the term "welfare state systems" has many advantages, as there are numerous different types/models of welfare state systems around the world. This path-breaking book, edited by Christian Aspalter, brings together leading experts to discuss social policy in 25 countries/regions around the world. From the most advanced welfare state systems in Scandinavia and Western Central Europe to the developing powers of Brazil, China, India, Russia, Mexico and Indonesia, each country-specific chapter provides a historical overview, discusses major characteristics of the welfare state system, analyzes country-specific problems, as well as critical current and future trends for further discussions, while also providing one additional major focal point/issue for greater in-depth analysis. This book breaks new ground in ideal-typical welfare regime theory, identifying now in total 10 worlds of welfare capitalism. It provides broad perspectives on critical challenges which welfare state systems in the developing and developed world alike must address now and in the future. It will be of great interest to all scholars and students of social policy, social development, development and health economists, public policy, health policy, sociology, social work and social policy makers and administrators. Book Gender Equality and Inclusive Growth

Download or read book Gender Equality and Inclusive Growth written by Raquel Fernández and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2021-03-04 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper considers various dimensions and sources of gender inequality and presents policies and best practices to address these. With women accounting for fifty percent of the global population, inclusive growth can only be achieved if it promotes gender equality. Despite recent progress, gender gaps remain across all stages of life, including before birth, and negatively impact health, education, and economic outcomes for women. The roadmap to gender equality has to rely on legal framework reforms, policies to promote equal access, and efforts to tackle entrenched social norms. These need to be set in the context of arising new trends such as digitalization, climate change, as well as shocks such as pandemics.
