Book Impact of Tax Revenue on Economic Growth of Prominent States of India

Download or read book Impact of Tax Revenue on Economic Growth of Prominent States of India written by Arunima P and published by Blue Rose Publishers. This book was released on 2022-10-06 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taxes are the major revenues for a country that are collected from citizens, companies, investors, and so on to generate the economy. In today's global society, redistribution mechanisms are necessary due to the fulfillment of core state obligations. The necessity of their financing, where taxes often make up the largest portion of state budget income, also affects government spending as the fundamental weapon of economic policy. Regardless of the prevailing economic system, tax income is a crucial tool for the government to meet budgeted expenditures and aids in achieving established growth targets over time. The type of direct or indirect taxes that are now in place in an economy might aid in predicting a growth pattern for future planning and policy execution. Over the years, economists have been curious to learn what influences different nations' rates of economic growth and levels of wealth accumulation. This book provides stronger policy implications and recommendations to the country's revenue authority, accelerating economic growth and fostering a greater understanding of the role that taxes play in growth.

Book Accelerating Poverty Reduction in Africa

Download or read book Accelerating Poverty Reduction in Africa written by Kathleen Beegle and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2019-10-09 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sub-Saharan Africa's turnaround over the past couple of decades has been dramatic. After many years in decline, the continent's economy picked up in the mid-1990s. Along with this macroeconomic growth, people became healthier, many more youngsters attended schools, and the rate of extreme poverty declined from 54 percent in 1990 to 41 percent in 2015. Political and social freedoms expanded, and gender equality advanced. Conflict in the region also subsided, although it still claims thousands of civilian lives in some countries and still drives pressing numbers of displaced persons. Despite Africa’s widespread economic and social welfare accomplishments, the region’s challenges remain daunting: Economic growth has slowed in recent years. Poverty rates in many countries are the highest in the world. And notably, the number of poor in Africa is rising because of population growth. From a global perspective, the biggest concentration of poverty has shifted from South Asia to Africa. Accelerating Poverty Reduction in Africa explores critical policy entry points to address the demographic, societal, and political drivers of poverty; improve income-earning opportunities both on and off the farm; and better mobilize resources for the poor. It looks beyond macroeconomic stability and growth—critical yet insufficient components of these objectives—to ask what more could be done and where policy makers should focus their attention to speed up poverty reduction. The pro-poor policy agenda advanced in this volume requires not only economic growth where the poor work and live, but also mitigation of the many risks to which African households are exposed. As such, this report takes a "jobs" lens to its task. It focuses squarely on the productivity and livelihoods of the poor and vulnerable—that is, what it will take to increase their earnings. Finally, it presents a road map for financing the poverty and development agenda.

Book The Uneven Offshore World

Download or read book The Uneven Offshore World written by Justin Robertson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-03-24 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Informed by world-systems analysis, this book examines the shifting patterns of accommodation and resistance to the offshore world, with a particular focus on Mauritius as a critical but underappreciated offshore node mediating foreign investment into India and Africa. Drawing on a large pool of financial data and elite interviews, the authors present the first detailed comparative study of the Mauritius–India and Mauritius–Africa offshore relationships. These relationships serve as indicative test cases of the contemporary global tax reform agenda and its promise to rein in offshore finance. Whereas India’s economic power and multilateral track record have enabled it to actively shape this agenda and implement it in a robust manner, most African countries have found themselves either unable to meet its stringent criteria or unwilling to do so out of fear that it might discourage investment. Its impact on offshore financial centers has likewise been limited. A few of the least sophisticated ones appear to have fallen by the wayside, but the rest have either remained largely unaffected, or, like Mauritius, succeeded in consolidating their operations and surviving the current round of regulatory headwinds. The findings suggest that the contemporary global tax reform agenda has thus far not only failed to make good on its promise but also actually reinforced numerous existing power hierarchies. The Uneven Offshore World is written in an accessible style and aimed at readers without specialized knowledge of tax issues.
