Book excerpt: When sitting down to write this book, E.T. Hudson said a prayer that Father God, in Jesus name, would help her understand the complicated book of Revelation. Then a dear friend began prompting her with questions of what this book is really about? What Is God trying to teach as he instructs his holy angels to give the writer, John, all this information? Let us begin at the beginning. When God was creating the world, Jesus was in God. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (Genesis 1:1) In the beginning was the Word, the word was with God, and the Word was God. All things were made by him, and without him was not anything made that was made. (John 1:1-3) And the word was made flesh and dwelled among us and we beheld his glory. The glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and mercy. (John 1:14) Jesus says ten times in this book of Revelation that He is the first and the last. (Revelation 1:4, 1:11, 1:17, 2:8, 4:8, 11:17, 16:5, 21:6, and 22:13)God began this story with Jesus and ends his story with Jesus. When we read Revelation with these scriptures in mind, it makes a lot more sense, and as we place each bit of information about Jesus from Revelation 1:1-22:21 in chronological order we have a complete story of Jesus life from Genesis to Revelation.

Download or read book The Rapture Exposed written by Barbara R. Rossing and published by Basic Books. This book was released on 2007-03-30 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of "The Rapture" -- the return of Christ to rescue and deliver Christians off the earth -- is an extremely popular interpretation of the Bible's Book of Revelation and a jumping-off point for the best-selling "Left Behind" series of books. This interpretation, based on a psychology of fear and destruction, guides the daily acts of thousands if not millions of people worldwide. In The Rapture Exposed, Barbara Rossing argues that this script for the world's future is nothing more than a disingenuous distortion of the Bible. The truth, Rossing argues, is that Revelation offers a vision of God's healing love for the world. The Rapture Exposed reclaims Christianity from fundamentalists' destructive reading of the biblical story and back into God's beloved community.

Book Truth Decay

    Book Details:
  • Author : Douglas Groothuis
  • Publisher : InterVarsity Press
  • Release : 2009-09-20
  • ISBN : 083087755X

Download or read book Truth Decay written by Douglas Groothuis and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2009-09-20 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 2001 Christianity Today Award of Merit winner! The concept of truth as absolute, objective and universal has undergone serious deterioration in recent years. No longer is it a goal for all to pursue. Rather postmodernism sees truth as inseparable from culture, psychology, race and gender. Ultimately, truth is what we make it to be. What factors have accelarated this decay of truth? Why are people willing to embrace such a devalued concept? How does this new view compare and contrast with a Christian understanding? While postmodernism contains some truthful insights (despite its attempt to dethrone truth), Douglas Groothuis sees its basic tenets as intellectually flawed and hostile to Christian views. In this spirited presentation of a solid, biblical and logical perspective, Groothuis unveils how truth has come under attack and how it can be defended in the vital areas of theology, apologetics, ethics and the arts.

Book The Reconstruction of the Christian Revelation Claim

Download or read book The Reconstruction of the Christian Revelation Claim written by Stuart C. Hackett and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2009-01-07 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Hackett provides, in digestible form, a comprehensive, systematic, and pervasively philosophical apologetic for the Christian revelation claim. Although the approach is seriously philosophical, the text is free as possible of the earmarks of technical scholarship--reflecting the author's aspiration to reach the common person who has a deep interest in such questions. Thus, although positions, arguments, and counter-arguments are discussed (of necessity), these are set forth without distracting encumbrances. Specifically, this book is designed as a substantial textbook for college and seminary courses in apologetics. In his thorough introduction, Philosophical Prolegomena, a firm base for the whole study is established by initiating the reader firmly in epistemology and the concept of revelation. The main divisions are: -- Christiainity and the Revelation Cosmos: A Philosophical Case for a Theistic Metaphysic. -- Christianity and the Revelational Person: An Historical / Critical Case for the Incarnation of God in Jesus Christ. -- Christianity and the Revelational Word: The Propositional Expression of Revelation in Scripture. Dr. Hackett includes on every page parallel marginal summaries and outlines to guide the reader and to facilitate ready reference.
