Three strategies for mitigating your personal financial risk in the current downturn in equities and other investment products. Advice on how to plan for (and even benefit from) the coming bear market, resulting from COVID-19, which will create unprecedented equity buying opportunities, possibly as early as 2021. Information on the impact of unbearably low interest rates on annuities and fixed income investments and what to do if you hold them. The reasons retirees should be deferring CPP until age 70 and why the case for this is stronger than ever. Author Frederick Vettese demystifies a complex and often frightening subject and provides practical, actionable advice based on five enhancements the reader can make to mitigate risk and secure their financial future. With over one thousand Canadians turning 65 every day, the cultivation of good decumulation practices — the way in which you draw down assets in retirement, ideally to have a secure income for the rest of your life — has become an urgent matter that no one can afford to ignore.

Book Rock Retirement

Download or read book Rock Retirement written by Roger Whitney and published by Morgan James Publishing. This book was released on 2017-10-03 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A guide for planning that rich season of life, based not just on money, but also on how to create meaningful relationships, memories, and legacy.” —Dan Miller, author of 48 Days to the Work You Love Rock Retirement offers inspirational advice on how to enjoy the journey to retirement to its fullest. Traditional retirement advice usually boils down to saving more, sacrificing more, and settling for less. This approach makes people dependent on systems outside their control, such as the market, economy, and investment returns. The result: people lose power over determining their life. What sets Rock Retirement apart is its holistic approach to helping people take back control and act intentionally towards the life they want. It addresses the fears, hopes, and dreams that people have about retirement, goes way beyond the numbers, and shows them how to balance living well today and tomorrow. “Too many books think retirement is just about finances. Instead, retirement is about looking at life in full and working out what it is you want to do and then turning to finances to make it happen. That’s exactly the focus of the practical and helpful guide.” —Andrew Scott, coauthor of The 100-Year Life “Roger Whitney lays out a plan for today’s modern retiree. If you are exhausted with being fed that retirement is the end game of life, then Roger’s book is a must-read!” —Darryl W. Lyons, author of 18 to 80 “If you’re dreaming of a retirement free of worry, chao and confusion, Rock Retirement will give you the clarity, a solid plan and fresh inspiration to help you get where you want to go.” —Jevonnah “Lady J” Ellison, author of Love Letters for Leading Ladies

One of 77 million baby boomers reaches 50 every 7 seconds. Studies show that most people do not plan sufficiently for retirement. Having purpose in life, doing what matters, nurturing rewarding relationships, maintaining your health, and contributing to something larger than the self are just as essential.

Book Money

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jacob Goldstein
  • Publisher : Hachette Books
  • Release : 2020-09-08
  • ISBN : 0316417181
  • Pages : 220 pages

Download or read book Money written by Jacob Goldstein and published by Hachette Books. This book was released on 2020-09-08 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The co-host of the popular NPR podcast Planet Money provides a well-researched, entertaining, somewhat irreverent look at how money is a made-up thing that has evolved over time to suit humanity's changing needs. Money only works because we all agree to believe in it. In Money, Jacob Goldstein shows how money is a useful fiction that has shaped societies for thousands of years, from the rise of coins in ancient Greece to the first stock market in Amsterdam to the emergence of shadow banking in the 21st century. At the heart of the story are the fringe thinkers and world leaders who reimagined money. Kublai Khan, the Mongol emperor, created paper money backed by nothing, centuries before it appeared in the west. John Law, a professional gambler and convicted murderer, brought modern money to France (and destroyed the country's economy). The cypherpunks, a group of radical libertarian computer programmers, paved the way for bitcoin. One thing they all realized: what counts as money (and what doesn't) is the result of choices we make, and those choices have a profound effect on who gets more stuff and who gets less, who gets to take risks when times are good, and who gets screwed when things go bad. Lively, accessible, and full of interesting details (like the 43-pound copper coins that 17th-century Swedes carried strapped to their backs), Money is the story of the choices that gave us money as we know it today.

This book was released on 2008 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As senior citizens age, they tend to go through less money; in fact, the typical over-75 household spent only $25,763 in 2004. In this new book, you will learn how to manage your expenses, how to reduce and eliminate debt, how to save and invest wisely, how to use retirement planning tools, how to reduce living expenses, how to downsize to a smaller, less expensive property, how to save on small items, how to prioritize your insurance, and how to cut back. Additionally, you will learn about withdrawal plans, selling your home, simplifying your life style, and streamlining postretirement activities. Perhaps most interestingly, you will be presented with the option of moving overseas when you retire. Book Retirement Watch

Download or read book Retirement Watch written by Bob Carlson and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2023-01-03 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America’s #1 retirement adviser offers tried and true investment strategies for before and after retirement. Sound guidance from the creator of RetirementWatch.com and the author of Where’s My Money?: Secrets to Getting the Most Out of Your Social Security. The 2020s are likely to be among the worst times to be nearing retirement or in the early years of retirement. The book first explains the forces that are coming together to make it more difficult to create and maintain financial security and independence in retirement. The middle of the Baby Boomer generation will increase the pressure on every aspect of retirement. The early boomers began reaching 65 in 2011. Since then about 10,000 Boomers per day have been hitting 65. But the middle section of the Boomers is larger than the early Boomers. Beginning in 2024, an estimated 12,000 Baby Boomers will turn 65 each day. Already the foundations of retirement, Social Security and Medicare, are under stress. The rapid increase in the number of Boomers enrolling in these systems will increase the strain. In addition, the high returns in stocks and other investments since 2009 (and especially since 2017) make it likely that investment returns will be below their long-term averages during most of the 2020s. Further, interest rates on traditional retirement income investments, such as certificates of deposit, short-term government bonds, and money market funds, are the lowest they’ve been in U.S. history and are likely to remain below their historic averages. In addition, taxes imposed by all levels of government are likely to increase during the 2020s. A longstanding myth is that a person’s tax burden will decline in retirement. That hasn’t been true for some time, and in the 2020s retirees are likely to face a range of tax increases. For a long time, many retirees left a lot of money on the table by making less-than-optimum decisions about Social Security, Medicare, IRAs, 401(k) rollovers, long-term care, and other key retirement issues. For example, a recent study done for United Income concluded that only four percent of Social Security beneficiaries made the optimum decision about when to claim retirement benefits. For the most part, the Boomers mistakes were bailed out by high stock market returns and low inflation. Retirees in the 2020s aren’t likely to be so fortunate. Peak Boomers have to make the right decisions about all aspects of their retirement finances. This book will cover each of the key retirement planning issues faced in the five years before retirement and the first five years of retirement and guide readers to making the right decisions for them.
