Book Crop tree Release Increases Growth of 12 year old Yellow poplar and Black Cherry

Download or read book Crop tree Release Increases Growth of 12 year old Yellow poplar and Black Cherry written by Neil I. Lamson and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S2Precommercial thinning was done in a 12-year-old Appalachian hardwood sapling stand in West Virginia. Two crop-tree release techniques were used-crown touching and crown touching plus 5 feet. Results indicated that both treatments significantly increased & year d.b.h. growth for released yellow-poplar and black cherry crop trees. Although there was a major increase in d.b.h. growth, caution is suggested when using the crown-touching plus 5 feet treatment as butt-log quality response was not conclusive. Releasing crop trees with the crown-touching approach seems appropriate in sapling stands when applied to desirable stems on better sites. S3.

Book Releasing Young Hardwood Crop Trees

Download or read book Releasing Young Hardwood Crop Trees written by Gary W. Miller and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S2A crown-touching release of 12-year-old black cherry and yellow-poplar crop trees on a good site required removing an average of 14 trees for every crop tree. An average of 80 crop trees per acre was left free-to-grow with an average growing space of 4.7 feet on all sides of the crown. Basal spraying cost $0.80 per crop tree, stem injecting cost $0.61 per crop tree, and chain saw felling cost $0.42 per crop tree. Cost indicators for each release method and suggestions for cost savings are provided.S3.

Book Applying a Crop tree Release in Small sawtimber White Oak Stands

Download or read book Applying a Crop tree Release in Small sawtimber White Oak Stands written by Jeffrey W. Stringer and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S2Small-sawtimber white oak crop trees in Kentucky were released by a crown-touching technique. In two cutting treatments, 20 and 34 crop trees were released per acre at a total cost of $35 and $42, respectively. Both treatments yielded commercial volumes of cut material. Total mean merchantable volume (>5.0 inches d.b.h.) in cut trees was 693 cubic feet/acre, with approximately 2,400 board feet/acre in sawtimber (2 11.0 inches d.b.h.). On the basis of early crop-tree stem response, the released trees are growing 0.16 inch/year compared with 0.13 inch/year for the unreleased trees. S3.

Book Silviculture

Download or read book Silviculture written by Ralph D. Nyland and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2016-05-13 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Silviculture: Concepts and Applications reflects a belief that all the tools of silviculture have a useful role in modern forestry. Through careful analysis and creative planning, foresters can address a wide array of commodity and nonmarket interests and opportunities while maintaining dynamic and resilient forests. A landowner’s needs, circumstances, and site conditions guide a silviculturist’s judgment and decision making in finding the best ways to integrate the biologic-ecologic, economic-financial, and managerial-administrative requirements at hand. The Third Edition of this influential text provides a foundational basis for rigorous discussion of techniques. The inclusion of numerous real-world examples and balanced coverage of past and current practices broadens the concept of silviculture and the ways that managers can use it to address both traditional and emerging interests in forests. A thorough discussion of new and proven interpretations increasingly directs the attention of foresters toward the role silviculture plays in creating, maintaining, rehabilitating, and restoring forests that can sustain an expanding variety of ecosystem services.
