Download or read book Messy Grace written by Caleb Kaltenbach and published by WaterBrook. This book was released on 2015-10-20 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sometimes, grace gets messy. Caleb Kaltenbach was raised by LGBT parents, marched in gay pride parades as a youngster, and experienced firsthand the hatred and bitterness of some Christians toward his family. But then Caleb surprised everyone, including himself, by becoming a Christian…and a pastor. Very few issues in Christianity are as divisive as the acceptance of the LGBT community in the church. As a pastor and as a person with beloved family members living a gay lifestyle, Caleb had to face this issue with courage and grace. Messy Grace shows us that Jesus’s command to “love your neighbor as yourself” doesn’t have an exception clause for a gay “neighbor”—or for that matter, any other “neighbor” we might find it hard to relate to. Jesus was able to love these people and yet still hold on to his beliefs. So can you. Even when it’s messy. “Messy Grace is an important contribution to the conversation about sexual identity for churches and leaders. Caleb's story is surprising and unique, and he weaves it together compellingly. He states his views clearly, leaves room for disagreement, and champions love no matter where you are in this conversation.” —Jud Wilhite, Sr. Pastor, Central Christian Church

Download or read book Responding to Chaos written by David N Buck and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2014-04-04 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A celebration of a unique culture and its experience of design, this sensitive text is a timely examination of Japanese design at the start of a new century. The country's economic boom in the 1980s produced a surge of interest in land and building, and consequently in design in all its forms. From restaurant interiors to products, from private housing to recreational spaces, design received an unprecedented degree of attention. However the bursting in the early 1990s of this so-called 'bubble' economy has prompted a re-examination of design and its role in urban society.
Download or read book The Secret to Fruitful Life written by Samuel Stone and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2007-08 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are created to be fruitful. A fruitful life, according to Jesus, is the present manifestation of the future kingdom of heaven. Until we discover how we can be fruitful, nothing will give us true satisfaction and fulfillment. In his famous Sermon on the Mount, Jesus revealed the secret to fruitful life and disclosed its path in his teaching of the Beatitudes. Few people realize that Jesus was using the Beatitudes to reveal to us the process of significant personal and social transformation that leads us to fruitfulness. In this book we are not only going to unwrap but also embody this top secret of life delivered to us by Jesus Christ. We will journey through the eight progressive steps of personal and social transformation and continue on an upward spiral of a fruitful life. Samuel M. Stone is the pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Paramus, New Jersey. He was born in China, raised in Burma, and received his Master of Divinity degree at the San Francisco Theological Seminary. Download or read book Reacting to Life s Situations written by Marlin Mull and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-08-11 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reacting to life situations cannot be avoided. However, the way we react can either bring hope or despair. The choice remains with us. Three main options exist: (1) We can attempt to be noncommittal and try to avoid making a decision, though that thought process itself is reacting; (2) we can react unwisely, and the problem does not get better, only worse; or (3) we can react positively based on discerning God's will. This third reaction is best, and this book's aim, using Bible personalities as examples and some personal illustrations from the author's experiences, is to encourage the reader to react to life's problems by discerning God's will as best they can. Make your reaction to life situations a judgment based on prayer and principles discovered in the Bible, and thus find hope. Be encouraged!

Download or read book The Science of Responding to a Nuclear Reactor Accident written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2014-12-08 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Science of Responding to a Nuclear Reactor Accident summarizes the presentations and discussions of the May 2014 Gilbert W. Beebe Symposium titled "The Science and Response to a Nuclear Reactor Accident". The symposium, dedicated in honor of the distinguished National Cancer Institute radiation epidemiologist who died in 2003, was co-hosted by the Nuclear and Radiation Studies Board of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Cancer Institute. The symposium topic was prompted by the March 2011 accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant that was initiated by the 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami off the northeast coast of Japan. This was the fourth major nuclear accident that has occurred since the beginning of the nuclear age some 60 years ago. The 1957 Windscale accident in the United Kingdom caused by a fire in the reactor, the 1979 Three Mile Island accident in the United States caused by mechanical and human errors, and the 1986 Chernobyl accident in the former Soviet Union caused by a series of human errors during the conduct of a reactor experiment are the other three major accidents. The rarity of nuclear accidents and the limited amount of existing experiences that have been assembled over the decades heightens the importance of learning from the past. This year's symposium promoted discussions among federal, state, academic, research institute, and news media representatives on current scientific knowledge and response plans for nuclear reactor accidents. The Beebe symposium explored how experiences from past nuclear plant accidents can be used to mitigate the consequences of future accidents, if they occur. The Science of Responding to a Nuclear Reactor Accident addresses off-site emergency response and long-term management of the accident consequences; estimating radiation exposures of affected populations; health effects and population monitoring; other radiological consequences; and communication among plant officials, government officials, and the public and the role of the media.
Download or read book Symbolic Interaction in Society written by David E. Rohall and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-09-03 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Core text for the symbolic interaction course - often called “Self and Society” or “Individual and Society” – most often taught in sociology departments. Symbolic Interaction in Society offers a systematic application of symbolic interaction to everyday life. In addition to providing an overview of the theory and methods of symbolic interaction, it includes theory and research related to all of the relevant topics in sociology today: race and ethnicity, gender and sexuality, social institutions, and social change. This book is written in a way that encourages students to employ symbolic interactionist concepts and principles throughout the text. Students are asked to put themselves into particular situations and consider how they would respond to the other people in that scenario. In doing so, students are able to see that human interaction is both stable and dynamic, that people can be predictable but that they also have agency, the ability to make number of decisions in a given situation. The goal is to show students the practical value of symbolic interaction for understanding their social lives today. Key features include: Full review of symbolic interaction concepts and theories including a discussion of the nature of society and the role of the individual in society Research applications of symbolic interaction examining major sociological outcomes such as inequality (race, class, gender and sexuality), deviance and mental health, social relationships, family and other social institutions, and social change SI Online boxes include a review of how the principles of symbolic interaction apply to the effects of the Internet and modern communications on the individual and society Personal Notes boxes share real student applications in which students describe how they have employed symbolic interaction in their personal lives Original Work features one short excerpt from a book or journal article in every chapter Pedagogical devices such as chapter objectives, key terms, and end of chapter key terms and critical thinking questions guide students through each chapter

However, if you see it as an expressway, you can use it to learn and grow." "The gospel of Jesus Christ is the plan whereby we can become what God wants us to become. In fact, we become great people because of our trials, not in spite of them." This booklet reviews the nature, origins, and purposes of adversity and includes suggestions on how to patiently trust in the Lord and His eternal plan and how to use these trials to learn and grow stronger. You can benefit from your trials if you: Develop a relationship with God Let others help you Let God carry your burdens Trust that the Lord is in control and allow His will to be done Remember that everyone has challenges Let adversity make you a better person Live with integrity Be patient Make the best of your situation Serve others Keep a positive attitude Keep an eternal perspective
Download or read book What Good Is Jesus written by Marv Nelson and published by Ambassador International. This book was released on 2016-01-29 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When children are sold into slavery-what good is Jesus? When wretched disease takes a loved one's life-what good is Jesus? When marriages crumble and jobs disappoint-what good is Jesus? Many know of Jesus, but few actually know Him. The real entity of Jesus has been tainted by how His followers have portrayed His image in their lives. The institution of religion has overtaken the beauty of relationship, and many Christians are walking away with a bitter taste. Faced with declining opportunities, a war-torn globe, and seemingly-insurmountable crises, many millennials are asking the sincere question: what good is Jesus? Pastor Marv Nelson doesn't avoid tough questions; instead, he tackles issues head-on with love and wisdom. Examining sexuality, politics, racial tensions, suffering, and more, Nelson addresses these problems through a relational rather than religious approach and shows us just what good Jesus really is.
