Book PET CT in Radiotherapy Planning

Download or read book PET CT in Radiotherapy Planning written by Sue Chua and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-06-16 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This pocket book offers a succinct but comprehensive overview of the role of PET/CT in radiotherapy planning. Individual chapters are devoted to specific application of the technique to particular tumor types, including non-small cell lung, gastrointestinal, head and neck squamous cell, prostate, gynecological, and pediatric tumors. Helpful information is also presented on the practical implementation of PET/CT in routine oncological practice. Technical and logistical issues are discussed, and guidance provided on potential problems and pitfalls and available solutions. The book will be invaluable in assisting readers to exploit PET/CT’s ability to significantly improve delineation of tumor tissue through the addition of metabolic information to structural imaging data, thereby avoiding unnecessary radiation injury and associated complications while enhancing therapeutic effects and minimizing the risk of marginal recurrences. It is published within the Springer series Clinicians’ Guides to Radionuclide Hybrid Imaging, compiled under the auspices of the British Nuclear Medicine Society.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this textbook of molecular imaging is to provide an up to date review of this rapidly growing field and to discuss basic methodological aspects necessary for the interpretation of experimental and clinical results. Emphasis is placed on the interplay of imaging technology and probe development, since the physical properties of the imaging approach need to be closely linked with the biologic application of the probe (i.e. nanoparticles and microbubbles). Various chemical strategies are discussed and related to the biologic applications. Reporter-gene imaging is being addressed not only in experimental protocols, but also first clinical applications are discussed. Finally, strategies of imaging to characterize apoptosis and angiogenesis are described and discussed in the context of possible clinical translation.

Book Motion Correction in Thoracic Positron Emission Tomography

Download or read book Motion Correction in Thoracic Positron Emission Tomography written by Fabian Gigengack and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-09-10 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Respiratory and cardiac motion leads to image degradation in Positron Emission Tomography (PET), which impairs quantification. In this book, the authors present approaches to motion estimation and motion correction in thoracic PET. The approaches for motion estimation are based on dual gating and mass-preserving image registration (VAMPIRE) and mass-preserving optical flow (MPOF). With mass-preservation, image intensity modulations caused by highly non-rigid cardiac motion are accounted for. Within the image registration framework different data terms, different variants of regularization and parametric and non-parametric motion models are examined. Within the optical flow framework, different data terms and further non-quadratic penalization are also discussed. The approaches for motion correction particularly focus on pipelines in dual gated PET. A quantitative evaluation of the proposed approaches is performed on software phantom data with accompanied ground-truth motion information. Further, clinical applicability is shown on patient data. The book concludes with an outlook of recent developments and potential future advances in the field of PET motion correction.

Book Pulmonary Functional Imaging

Download or read book Pulmonary Functional Imaging written by Yoshiharu Ohno and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-12-11 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews the basics of pulmonary functional imaging using new CT and MR techniques and describes the clinical applications of these techniques in detail. The intention is to equip readers with a full understanding of pulmonary functional imaging that will allow optimal application of all relevant techniques in the assessment of a variety of diseases, including COPD, asthma, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary thromboembolism, pulmonary hypertension, lung cancer and pulmonary nodule. Pulmonary functional imaging has been promoted as a research and diagnostic tool that has the capability to overcome the limitations of morphological assessments as well as functional evaluation based on traditional nuclear medicine studies. The recent advances in CT and MRI and in medical image processing and analysis have given further impetus to pulmonary functional imaging and provide the basis for future expansion of its use in clinical applications. In documenting the utility of state-of-the-art pulmonary functional imaging in diagnostic radiology and pulmonary medicine, this book will be of high value for chest radiologists, pulmonologists, pulmonary surgeons, and radiation technologists.

Sections begin by covering general considerations, including public health and economic implications, the physics of PET/MR systems, an overview of hot lab and cyclotron, and radiotracers used in neurologic PET/MRI. There is then coverage of each major disease/systemic category, including dementia and neurodegenerative disease, epilepsy localization, brain tumors, inflammatory and infectious CNS disorders, head and neck imaging, as well as vascular hybrid imaging. Together, we have created a thorough, concise and up-to-date textbook in a unique, user-friendly format. This is an ideal guide for neuroradiologists, nuclear medicine specialists, medical physicists, clinical trainees and researchers.

Book MRI of the Lung

    Book Details:
  • Author : Hans-Ulrich Kauczor
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2008-11-12
  • ISBN : 354034618X
  • Pages : 315 pages

Download or read book MRI of the Lung written by Hans-Ulrich Kauczor and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-11-12 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past decade significant developments have been achieved in the field of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), enabling MRI to enter the clinical arena of chest imaging. Standard protocols can now be implemented on up-to-date scanners, allowing MRI to be used as a first-line imaging modality for various lung diseases, including cystic fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension and even lung cancer. The diagnostic benefits stem from the ability of MRI to visualize changes in lung structure while simultaneously imaging different aspects of lung function, such as perfusion, respiratory motion, ventilation and gas exchange. On this basis, novel quantitative surrogates for lung function can be obtained. This book provides a comprehensive overview of how to use MRI for imaging of lung disease. Special emphasis is placed on benign diseases requiring regular monitoring, given that it is patients with these diseases who derive the greatest benefit from the avoidance of ionizing radiation.
