Book Multisystemic Resilience

Download or read book Multisystemic Resilience written by Michael Ungar and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021 with total page 849 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Across diverse disciplines, the term resilience is appearing more and more often. However, while each discipline has developed theory and models to explain the resilience of the systems they study (e.g., a natural environment, a community post-disaster, the human mind, a computer network, or the economy), there is a lack of over-arching theory that describes: 1) whether the principles that underpin the resilience of one system are similar or different from the principles that govern resilience of other systems; 2) whether the resilience of one system affects the resilience of other co-occurring systems; and 3) whether a better understanding of resilience can inform the design of interventions, programs and policies that address "wicked" problems that are too complex to solve by changing one system at a time? In other words (and as only one example among many) are there similarities between how a person builds and sustains psychological resilience and how a forest, community or the business where he or she works remains successful and sustainable during periods of extreme adversity? Does psychological resilience in a human being influence the resilience of the forests (through a change in attitude towards conservation), community (through a healthy tolerance for differences) and businesses (by helping a workforce perform better) with which a person interacts? And finally, does this understanding of resilience help build better social and physical ecologies that support individual mental health, a sustainable environment and a successful economy at the same time?"--

Book Social Policy and Social Dimensions on Vulnerability and Resilience in Europe

Download or read book Social Policy and Social Dimensions on Vulnerability and Resilience in Europe written by Birgit Bütow and published by Verlag Barbara Budrich. This book was released on 2015-05-04 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are two tendencies in present public discussions.Social problems have their causes in the individual, and are thus not a problem of socio-economic inequality. Consequently, we find an increasing policy in Europe of selfactivation and self-help as substitutes of social work. On the other hand, new types of social vulnerability and challenges for social work and social policy are detected which are discussed in the book in their European dimensions. Beginning in the last century in Europe, processes of social exclusion are discussed as common phenomena of the crisis in social welfare systems. They have their origins in the radical changes in paid employment, the weakening of family ties, and the increasing incapability of the welfare state to promote social inclusion. New types of ,social vulnerabilities’ are emerging - containing chances as well as risks. They are discussed in two ways. On the one hand the implementation of indicator-based management systems of social services is attempted, which implies a range of chances and risks in ethical and professional self-image. On the other hand there are self-help movements, social networks and other social types of resilience – which are often a complement or support to Social Work. Yet there is a policy to substitute Social Work by a strategy of self-activation. Both developments are signs of the present and indicators of the future of Social Work. They show the necessity of clarifying the social and political scopes and prospects of Social Work in societies at the crossroads of enhancing civility, human development and social security or overburden the vulnerable, who face new dimensions of psychological, ecological and economic distress. This book is an attempt to bring together several European discussions concerning Social Work and social politics.

Download or read book Ecological Engagement written by Silvia Helena Koller and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-04 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the method developed by Dr. Silvia Helena Koller and her students and collaborators to apply Urie Bronfenbrenner’s Bioecological Theory of Human Development to empirical studies with children and adolescents. Although Bronfenbrenner's theory, in different stages of development, has been widely cited by several researchers, surprisingly little has been written about the theory itself, its evolution or about the methods that should be used to test it. This book fills this gap by presenting both an overview of Bronfenbrenner’s theory and a method to apply it to empirical research, the Ecological Engagement method. The book also shows how this method can be applied in practice by bringing together a series of research reports of studies carried out in different regions of Brazil and in Angola that used the Ecological Engagement method to study children and adolescent development in different contexts, such as street situation, sexual exploitation, institutional reception, family reintegration, school and emergency and disasters, among others. Ecological Engagement – Urie Bronfenbrenner’s Method to Study Human Development will be a valuable tool for psychologists and other social scientists interested in child and adolescent development looking for a solid an innovative methodology that allows researchers to directly interact with their research subjects in their own social contexts in order to fully understand their problems and issues. “The methodology of Ecological Engagement, that is explained and richly empirically illustrated in this book, is a singularly significant extension of [Urie Bronfenbrenner’s] bioecological model. Indeed, in my view it is a brilliant empirical instantiation of the PPCT component of the model. (...) Ecological Engagement methodology is the scientific means through which Urie’s legacy can be furthered.” – Excerpt from the Foreword to the International Edition by Dr. Richard M. Lerner, director of the Institute for Applied Research in Youth Development, Tufts University

Book Resiliencia gesti n del naufragio

Download or read book Resiliencia gesti n del naufragio written by Pilar Gómez-Acebo and published by Editorial Almuzara. This book was released on 2013-06 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Parenting Across Cultures written by Helaine Selin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-19 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a strong connection between culture and parenting. What is acceptable in one culture is frowned upon in another. This applies to behavior after birth, encouragement in early childhood, and regulation and freedom during adolescence. There are differences in affection and distance, harshness and repression, and acceptance and criticism. Some parents insist on obedience; others are concerned with individual development. This clearly differs from parent to parent, but there is just as clearly a connection to culture. This book includes chapters on China, Colombia, Jordan, Kenya, the Philippines, Thailand, Korea, Vietnam, Brazil, Native Americans and Australians, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Ecuador, Cuba, Pakistan, Nigeria, Morocco, and several other countries. Beside this, the authors address depression, academic achievement, behavior, adolescent identity, abusive parenting, grandparents as parents, fatherhood, parental agreement and disagreement, emotional availability and stepparents.

Book The Household as a Human Capital Incubator

Download or read book The Household as a Human Capital Incubator written by Sandra Vélez Candelario and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2023-04-28 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humanity’s psychological and behavioral skills are the most useful area to manage for today’s organizations. Workplaces, schools and many others organizations are investing resources in humans as capital due to these remarkable skills, in recognition of the fact that humans are our most precious capital within society. Many psychiatric treatments have been created to harness the human as capital within academic and workplace settings. This book gives the readers the opportunity to analyze the organization which promotes, or prevents, disruptive behaviour in human capital during their incubating process, that is, the household. Taylor’s management theory opened people’s eyes to the potential of humans’ physical capabilities, but this theory of psychological capital emphasizes positive psychological aspects, taking heed of organizational behaviour. This specific skill is needs to be aligned with today’s worldwide business activity. The family is the first legitimated social group to help the human being in this specific area, making them successful in life.

Book Child and Adolescent Development in Risky Adverse Contexts

Download or read book Child and Adolescent Development in Risky Adverse Contexts written by Blanca Estela Barcelata Eguiarte and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-01 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes the factors and mechanisms involved in the development and adaptation of children and adolescents to adverse and risky contexts in four Latin American countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico. The experience of growing up in contexts of poverty and social vulnerability is a risk factor for child and adolescent development which may produce a series of negative effects in their adulthood, including mental disorders. This is a global concern, but so far the majority of literature about the topic has focused on developed countries. This volume aims to enrich the international literature by presenting results of research carried out in developing countries, showing how children and adolescents deal with adverse and risky contexts and analyzing both negative outcomes and the development of resilience and coping strategies. The studies gathered in this volume are theoretically grounded on systemic and ecological models which analyze developmental trajectories and outcomes taking into account the interaction of different ecological systems, such as the individual, the family, the school and the wider society. Departing from this theoretical framework, the chapters in this volume analyze the risk factors posed to child and adolescent development by adverse and risky social contexts and present evidence-based interventions aimed at both preventing negative outcomes and helping children and adolescents develop coping strategies to deal with adverse situations, such as poverty and social marginalization. Child and Adolescent Development in Risky Adverse Contexts: A Latin American Perspective will be of interest to developmental, clinical, health, and educational psychologists, as well as social workers, directly working or doing research with children and adolescents in situations of social vulnerability.

Book Psychology and Rural Contexts

Download or read book Psychology and Rural Contexts written by Jáder Ferreira Leite and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-02-01 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together a selection of theoretical reflections, empirical researches and professional experiences to showcase the increasing production of psychological studies in rural contexts developed in Latin America in recent years. Psychology’s tradition of science and eminently urban profession has produced a void of reflections and approaches on important actors of the societies that constitute their existence in rural contexts and in relation – whether of integration, conflicts and contradictions – with urban agents. But a new generation of psychologists are turning their attention to rural contexts, especially in Latin America. This volume aims to present a selection of these psychological studies and interventions developed in rural contexts from a psychosocial and interdisciplinary perspective, developed together with various social actors who live and work in rural spaces, that have an important relationship with land and nature both in terms of the elaboration of their history, the production of their subjectivities and identity ties with the territory, and the engagement in struggles for the right to land and for public policies that guarantee access to education and health services, technical assistance and infrastructure for its working activities. The book is divided in five parts, each one dedicated to a dimension of psychosocial studies and interventions in rural contexts: theoretical approaches; mental health and rural populations; social movements, communities and resistance practices; gender relations and subjectivation processes; and environment and sustainability. Chapters in each axis prioritize reports of experiences and research conducted with participatory approaches, producing new perspectives and reflections that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of psychology, both regionally and globally.
