Book Saving the American Dream

Download or read book Saving the American Dream written by Louis Hernandez Jr. and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-03-12 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Saving the American Dream is a provocative and thoughtful account of how our nations ideals of equality and the pursuit of happiness emerged as an inspiration and a beacon of hope for the entire world, and how politicians, Wall Street and our own sense of entitlement have gradually eroded this Dream to the point of endangering Americas preeminence. In this fascinating and informative book, Louis Hernandez, Jr. explores the origins, evolution and economic underpinnings of the American Dream, detailing how key government policies over-facilitated the Dreams attainment, weakened the will of the American people and drove us inexorably toward the 2007 financial crisis. He shows how policies put in place after the crisis not only failed to address the core problems America faces, but created a growing disconnect between Wall Street and Main Street that has made things far worse. The book examines how our myopic political focus on Too Big to Fail institutions has threatened the most crucial pillars of the American Dream our small businesses, and the community banks and credit unions that support them and sabotaged their ability to support job growth and responsible financial services for families and local communities.

Book Rescuing the American Dream by a Bronx Dummy with Some Controversial Ideas

Download or read book Rescuing the American Dream by a Bronx Dummy with Some Controversial Ideas written by Patrick D. Clarke and published by Bookstand Publishing. This book was released on 2011-01 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As of this writing it's now two-plus years and counting since America and the entire world were plunged into a global recession by an unregulated rogue financial system. The American Dream, once so prevalent and attainable with hard work, has been pushed aside and replaced with uncertainty and many unanswered questions. Schools are laying off teachers, firehouses are shutting doors, and hospitals are closing and are laying off nurses. Overall, America's quality of life has begun to resemble that of a Third World nation. In response, the American public is crying out for rapid changes, and a chance to recover that which has been lost. Is the The American Dream over? Can we do something to rescue it? To whom can we turn for help when our elected officials provide us with weak and ineffectual leadership? Our elected officials have failed to look for ideas that could rescue us from the brink of disaster. Instead, they continue to fight and backstab each other while the suffering American public is desperate for leadership that can provide answers. Out of the lower rungs of society I, Patrick D. Clarke, a Bronx Dummy, have come bringing ideas that can help revolutionize and stimulate our economy. Read on for answers that might just surprise you. My book puts forth answers to many questions in areas that have been hindering America from moving forward and maintaining our lead as innovators and leaders the world looks up to for guidance. At this pivotal time in history it is imperative that we act now and not wait for the 25th hour to do something that can help. In my book I present ideas we all can use to fight waste throughout the government and turn our nation around. So, if you are interested in being empowered and letting your voices be heard, then my book is a must-read.

This book was released on 2011-11-21 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What happened to the American Dream? Yesterday's age of abundance and prosperity has given way to today's scarcity and decline. Too many voters, uninformed about the issues or discouraged by polarized politics, have withdrawn from the discussion entirely, believing that there's nothing they can do to create change. Michael J. Quinlan, international business executive, former U.S. Navy officer, and life-long student of history, counters this with his own refreshingly non-partisan perspective. In plain language, he examines the major factors that helped take America to the top of the world in the 20th century and describes the specific global issues that jeopardize our position right now. Rescuing the American Dream lays out clear, tractable pathways toward solutions, with opportunities that start with each of us. Quinlan uses his worldwide perspective on history, politics, and technology to call on each of us to do our jobs as Americans, to get involved in the political sphere and to demand that our leaders stop making decisions based on special interests or party line. Quinlan's book gives us hope.

Book The Main Street Moment

Download or read book The Main Street Moment written by Gerald W. McEntee and published by Bold Type Books. This book was released on 2012-06-12 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the wake of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and the Supreme Court's landmark Citizens United decision, politicians are targeting working Americans as never before. As American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) President Gerald W. McEntee and Secretary-Treasurer Lee Saunders show, efforts to crush what's left of the working middle class and the American Dream are supported by those willing to stop at nothing to enshrine profits for the few at the expense of the many. But these forces vastly underestimate the power of Americans -- union and non-union alike -- united for economic justice and a vibrant democracy. In fact, AFSCME's leaders argue that the response to the unprecedented attacks on the rights of workers amid growing income inequality in the United States has triggered something extraordinary: the Main Street Moment. From Washington to Wisconsin, Americans are fighting back against the crony capitalists trying to undo a century of hard-won victories for workers. These Americans know that the best bulwark against economic calamity is organized labor. Unions brought you the weekend and the forty-hour work week; unions created the middle class. And now unions must save America from those who would sacrifice democracy for the sake of profit. The Main Street Momentis the definitive manifesto for progressives and working people who know that America can only be transformed if we all stand united.

Book Saving the American Dream

Download or read book Saving the American Dream written by Patrick Kelley and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America needs an American solution to saving the homes and the people, and here is an American solution - a revolutionary idea of economics and political conversation. The means to providing for greater personal wealth to every American and securing a universal health care system without massive taxation or the progressive liberal (socialist) idea of massive government. Keeping American companies in America, re-creating an environment where hiring and employment is the focus, where opportunity and hope are more than slogans and change is not merely a word used. The means to this future very simply offered in a to the point format, meant for the people to understand and demand in one voice. America needs leadership and direction not traditional political posturing and partisan finger pointing. Freedom and liberty are not secured through government dictate, only through the people which government must facilitate their means and the pursuit of individual choice and success.

Book Facing Up to the American Dream

Download or read book Facing Up to the American Dream written by Jennifer L. Hochschild and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 1996-08-05 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ideology of the American dream--the faith that an individual can attain success and virtue through strenuous effort--is the very soul of the American nation. According to Jennifer Hochschild, we have failed to face up to what that dream requires of our society, and yet we possess no other central belief that can save the United States from chaos. In this compassionate but frightening book, Hochschild attributes our national distress to the ways in which whites and African Americans have come to view their own and each other's opportunities. By examining the hopes and fears of whites and especially of blacks of various social classes, Hochschild demonstrates that America's only unifying vision may soon vanish in the face of racial conflict and discontent. Hochschild combines survey data and vivid anecdote to clarify several paradoxes. Since the 1960s white Americans have seen African Americans as having better and better chances to achieve the dream. At the same time middle-class blacks, by now one-third of the African American population, have become increasingly frustrated personally and anxious about the progress of their race. Most poor blacks, however, cling with astonishing strength to the notion that they and their families can succeed--despite their terrible, perhaps worsening, living conditions. Meanwhile, a tiny number of the estranged poor, who have completely given up on the American dream or any other faith, threaten the social fabric of the black community and the very lives of their fellow blacks. Hochschild probes these patterns and gives them historical depth by comparing the experience of today's African Americans to that of white ethnic immigrants at the turn of the century. She concludes by claiming that America's only alternative to the social disaster of intensified racial conflict lies in the inclusiveness, optimism, discipline, and high-mindedness of the American dream at its best.

America produces 25% of all the goods and services in the world with only 5% of the population.America is the most powerful country on earth militarily, and the only country that has never sought to expand by conquest and imperialism. And yet today, America is in great danger of losing its moral, ethical and political bearings than at any other time.In the headlong rush to get something for nothing, America is becoming a national "grabbing match" where everyone is trying to get money and benefits at the expense of everyone else.In this block-busting book, Brian Tracy explains, step-by-step how we got into this financial fantasyland, and how we can get out -- starting today.
