Book Domestic Violence California s Arrest Policy

Download or read book Domestic Violence California s Arrest Policy written by Natalie Ann Arellano and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pervasiveness of domestic violence in the United States during the 1960s and 1970s prompted policy makers to implement mandatory arrest laws to provide additional protection to victims and to inform offenders of consequences. However, since mandatory arrest policies have been put into practice, much discord over their effectiveness and use has ensued. This project report offers a historical tracing and explores various factors indicated in the literature related to the role of law enforcement and mandatory arrest policies in terms of their impact on domestic violence. Despite the efforts by lawmakers and women's rights activists across the nation to improve the detriment of intimate partner violence, no single solution was identified in the literature to stop the epidemic. As incidents of intimate partner violence continue to occur each day, the literature demonstrates the need for continued evaluation of current procedures and development of new policies.

Book A Call for Injustice

Download or read book A Call for Injustice written by E. M. Moore and published by . This book was released on 2008-03-31 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1998 eighty to ninety percent of the criminal and domestic violence arrests in this country have been men. In California alone, from 1988 through 1998 nearly 450,000 men have gone to jail. Think about it - nearly half a million men incarcerated. And while the numbers aren't as daunting in the rest of the country, the statistics are the same...80-90% of thousands of men have been arrested on what is often flimsy evidence. Although it has been known for years that women are equally violent in domestic relationships, and though it is often they, not the men who initiate the violence, through manipulation of the legal system, they are avoiding arrests. I know it, I lived it. A Call for InJustice recounts the real life story of how this happens. Through the lives of Jim and Jan Avery (not their real names) it exposes the process that has been unleashed upon men for the sins of people that have preceded them. A Call for Injustice is so unbelievably personal and incredibly honest that, to paraphrase one booklover, it nearly begs that you ask permission from the author to read it.
