Le principal objectif est de fournir aux bibliothécaires suisses des recommandations pour la mise en place de services novateurs. Les bibliothèques publiques suisses ont une mauvaise réputation auprès du grand public qui les considère comme vieillottes et figées dans le temps. Il envie les autres pays qui ont, eux, des bibliothèques qui offrent des services intéressants à la population. Face à cet état de fait, il est intéressant de faire une revue de l rt mondiale et interroger des bibliothécaires suisses afin de vérifier l ́tat réel de la situation suisse et de la comparer avec la situation à l ́tranger. Globalement, le monde bibliothéconomique évolue. La bibliothèque publique se transforme au même rythme que la société qui l ntoure, elle intègre de nouvelles technologies qui s joutent au fonds existant ; elle n plus de frontière, elle devient virtuelle. Son architecture externe et interne se modifie. Intérieurement, la bibliothèque change pour s dapter aux besoins des usagers, elle devient plus conviviale. Le bibliothécaire lui-même évolue pour satisfaire les lecteurs ; il devient proactif. La revue de l rt mondiale permet de constater que se sont toujours les mêmes pays qui font avancer le monde bibliothéconomique en apportant de nouvelles idées : les pays anglophones, les pays nordiques, la France et le Canada. Ces pays mettent en place des services intéressants comme des distributeurs de livres dans la rue ou des cours d uto-formation. En Suisse, on peut constater que les bibliothèques ne sont pas aussi en retard qu n pourrait le penser. Elles progressent, mais plus timidement qu ̀ l ́tranger. Les bibliothécaires n sent pas se mettre en avant et dire ce qu ls font, ce qui fait croire au public qu ls ne font rien. De p.

Book excerpt: Water is vital for life, and its availability has been a concern for mankind throughout the ages. Its presence has always been ascertained in a variety of ways and the development of human society everywhere is connected with various forms of water management. Man also needed to manage water to find protection from its dangers and the need for that is increasing. In the coming decades, the impact of climate change is expected to intensify floods and droughts, affect groundwater resources, raise sea levels, increase pollution and enhance the frequency and magnitude of disasters. Societies around the world are challenged to adapt to these threats to ensure water security, economic prosperity and environmental and cultural sustainability. This book deals with the heritage of water management and the use that was made of water, as well as the impact of water management on heritage. An example of the former may be an ancient irrigation system in the Filipines or in the Middle East that still functions today, while the latter may reflect the importance of maintaining groundwater levels for the preservation of organic remains on archaeological sites or of wooden piles underneath standing buildings. In either case the papers in this book reflect the dynamic nature of water, and hence the equally dynamic relation between water management and heritage. This publication follows up on a Heritage and Water conference in Amsterdam, the first of its kind. Its main purpose is to credibly present the importance and value of heritage and historical experience for water and sustainable development, and vice versa, present the importance of water management for the protection of heritage. Shedding light on the continuum between houses-as-dwellings and houses-as-heritage, the author establishes heritage as a trajectory: heritage as a quality results from a ‘surplus of attention’ and relates to nostalgia or to a feeling of threat, loss, and disappearance; to values related to purity, materiality, and time; and to actions of preservation and transmission. Living in a World Heritage site provides a grammar of heritage that will allow scholars to question key notions of temporality and nostalgia, the idea of culture, the importance of experts, and moral principles in relation to heritage sites around the globe.

The consequence is that, often, cervical cancer is not detected until it is too late to be cured. An urgent effort is required if this situation is to be corrected.
