Download or read book Renaissance Acting Editions The Comedie of Errors The Comedy of Errors written by William Shakespeare and published by Demitra Papadinis. This book was released on with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shakespeare's actors did not receive a copy of the entire script but instead worked from "cue-scripts" or "part scripts" which contained only the lines and cues for a single character. The Renaissance Acting Editions provide cue-scripts for those who wish to experiment with the early modern acting process. Each play in the series consists of a set of cue-scripts and an unabridged prompt-script in modern font edited and prepared from William Shakespeare's First Folio of 1623. A "platt" (a.k.a. a "plot," a running list of entrances, exits, and major stage business) and instructions for assembling a cue-script roll are also included. These editions are not direct transcriptions of the First Folio texts. Original spelling, punctuation, and verse lineation have been retained throughout, but minimal revision has been done (e.g., correction of missing entrances and exits, restoration of simultaneous dialogue, etc.) to make the scripts more user-friendly.

If there has ever been a groundbreaking edition that likewise returns the reader to the original Shakespeare text, it will be THE APPLAUSE FOLIO TEXTS. If there has ever been an accessible version of the Folio, it is this edition, set for the first time in modern fonts. The Folio is the source of all other editions. The Folio text forces us to re-examine the assumptions and prejudices which have encumbered over four hundred years of scholarship and performance. Notes refer the reader to subsequent editorial interventions, and offer the reader a multiplicity of interpretations. Notes also advise the reader on variations between Folios and Quartos. Prepared and annotated by Neil Freeman, Head, Graduate Directing Program, University of British Columbia.

Book The Comedy of Errors Illustrated Edition

Download or read book The Comedy of Errors Illustrated Edition written by William Shakespeare and published by . This book was released on 2021-08-31 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors is the slapstick farce of his youth. In it, the lost twin sons of the old merchant Egeon--both named Antipholus--find themselves in Ephesus, without either one even knowing of the other's existence. Meanwhile, Egeon has arrived in search of the son he thinks is still alive--and has been sentenced to death for the "crime" of being from Syracuse. To add to the confusion, the two Antipholuses have twin servants, both named Dromio. As the four men unwittingly encounter each other, the play is crammed with wildly escalating misunderstandings before the truth emerges and Egeon is pardoned. Shakespeare bases his story on Plautus's Menaechmi, a play about identical twins who accidentally meet after a lifetime apart. He borrows from another Plautus play by having Adriana, the wife of one Antipholus, entertain the other. The spirited Adriana often gives speeches evoking strong emotions--as do other characters at times. Even here, Shakespeare suggests complexities beyond the farce.

Book The Comedy of Errors

Download or read book The Comedy of Errors written by William Shakespeare and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2004-02-26 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New Cambridge Shakespeare appeals to students worldwide for its up-to-date scholarship and emphasis on performance. The series features line-by-line commentaries and textual notes on the plays and poems. Introductions are regularly refreshed with accounts of new critical, stage and screen interpretations. For this second edition of The Comedy of Errors, Ros King has revised T. S. Dorsch's renowned text and commentary and written a completely new introduction to the work. She argues that the play cannot be regarded merely as a farcical romp based on a classical model but that it belongs to the critically misunderstood genre of tragi-comedy. Emphasising the seriousness that underlies the text, she pays special attention to the play's religious imagery and at the same time engages fully with its lightness of touch and its continuing popularity in the theatre. The volume also features accounts of recent and historical performances, and an updated reading list.

Book The Comedy of Errors

Download or read book The Comedy of Errors written by William Shakespeare and published by 谷月社. This book was released on 2015-07-28 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Comedy of Errors is one of William Shakespeare's early plays. It is his shortest and one of his most farcical comedies, with a major part of the humour coming from slapstick and mistaken identity, in addition to puns and word play. The Comedy of Errors (along with The Tempest) is one of only two of Shakespeare's plays to observe the classical unities. It has been adapted for opera, stage, screen and musical theatre. The Comedy of Errors tells the story of two sets of identical twins that were accidentally separated at birth. Antipholus of Syracuse and his servant, Dromio of Syracuse, arrive in Ephesus, which turns out to be the home of their twin brothers, Antipholus of Ephesus and his servant, Dromio of Ephesus. When the Syracusans encounter the friends and families of their twins, a series of wild mishaps based on mistaken identities lead to wrongful beatings, a near-seduction, the arrest of Antipholus of Ephesus, and false accusations of infidelity, theft, madness, and demonic possession.
