Book excerpt: Excerpt from Remarks on "the Mistakes of Moses" Skeptics may prate about the mistakes of Moses, but it would be diflicult to find a greater mistake than they make, when they undertake to Sit in judgment on a law which they have never studied, and the reasons for which they are not yet wise enough to comprehend. The most advanced science of our times has not yet reached the plane that Moses occupied, and we may still, with Israel's Psalmist, exclaim, Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things - out of thy law. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mistakes of Moses I saw a little while ago a Bible with immense oaken covers, with hasps and clasps large enough almost for a penitentiary, and I can imagine how that book would be regarded by barbarians in Europe when not more than one person in a dozen could read and write. In imagination I saw it carried into the cathedral, heard the chant of the priest, saw the swinging of the censer and the smoke rising and when that Bible was put on the altar I can imagine the barbarians looking at it and wondering what influence that black book could have on their lives and future. I do not wonder that they imagined it was inspired. None of them could write a book, and consequently when they saw it they adored it; they were stricken with awe and rascals took advantage of that awe. Book Mistakes of Ingersoll

Download or read book Mistakes of Ingersoll written by Swing Swing and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mistakes of Ingersoll: Including Ingersoll's Lecture on the "Mistakes of Moses" A religious faith at present so generally pervades the civilized world that it seems almost amazing that any one should dare speak as Mr. Ingersoll does in his several lectures about the Bible. It is this singularity, no doubt, rather than intrinsic worth, which gives any significance that may attach to his words. That the Bible is in the least endangered is out of the question. It is too late now for that. The words herein compiled from good and able men, who have made the great Book, in its early language, import and history, a careful study for long years, will show how futile are Mr. Ingersoll's efforts in parading what he calls the "Mistakes of Moses," etc. Indeed, it would seem that, possibly Mr. I. is guilty of a mistaken identity, for lie is severely accused of false assertions and misrepresentations concerning the real Moses. This reminds 115 of a " mistake" which was made on a certain occasion by the celebrated Archbishop of Dublin, the gifted author of the work so widely known, entitled "The Study of Words." He was not in robust health at the time, and for many years had been apprehensive of paralysis. At a dinner in Dublin, given by the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, his grace sat on the right of his hostess, the Duchess of Abercorn. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Bible Defended and Atheism Rebuked: Reply to Robert G. Ingersoll's Lectures, "Mistakes of Moses," "Skulls," Etc., "What Must We Do to Be Saved?" Etc No apology is needed to those who reverence the Bible as the Word of God, for this attempt to defend that Word and to confute the sophistry of one whose life is spent in laborious efforts to impeach and vilify the Divine oracles. Oi the entire sympathy of such there is no reason to doubt. Those who have not adopted as yet that Holy Book as the Divine guide of life, but who value the safety and happiness of mankind, we point to the public avowal by Mr. Ingersoll of his sympathy with Socialists and Nihilists who would subvert all law and order and convulse the world by wholesale murder and crime. In this connection we refer them to his confession, My sympathies cluster around the point of the dagger, etc., as collated in the following pages. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Moses That great moment dawned in the wilderness, far away from the turmoil of the world. The Prophet's soul is weary of his ceaseless battle, and he would fain rest in peace. He turns his back on men for the shepherd's life, and takes his Sheep into the wilderness. There he came to the mountain of God, unto Horeb. But even here there is no rest for him. He feels that he has not yet fulfilled his mission; a secret force in his heart urges him on, saying, What doest thou here P Go thou, work and fight for to that end wast thou created. He would like to disregard this voice, but cannot. The Prophet hears the voice of God in his heart, whether he will or not and if I say, I will not make mention of him then there is in mine heart as it were a burning fire Shut up in my bones, and I am weary with forbearing, and I cannot contain.
