Book Authentic Fakes

    Book Details:
  • Author : David Chidester
  • Publisher : Univ of California Press
  • Release : 2005-04-18

Download or read book Authentic Fakes written by David Chidester and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2005-04-18 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Authentic Fakes explores the religious dimensions of American popular culture in unexpected places: baseball, the Human Genome Project, Coca-Cola, rock 'n' roll, the rhetoric of Ronald Reagan, the charisma of Jim Jones, Tupperware, and the free market, to name a few. Chidester travels through the cultural landscape and discovers the role that fakery—in the guise of frauds, charlatans, inventions, and simulations—plays in creating religious experience. His book is at once an incisive analysis of the relationship between religion and popular culture and a celebration of the myriad ways in which invention can stimulate the religious imagination. Moving beyond American borders, Chidester considers the religion of McDonald’s and Disney, the discourse of W.E.B. Du Bois and the American movement in Southern Africa, the messianic promise of Nelson Mandela’s 1990 tour to America, and more. He also looks at the creative possibilities of the Internet in such phenomena as Discordianism, the Holy Order of the Cheeseburger, and a range of similar inventions. Arguing throughout that religious fakes can do authentic religious work, and that American popular culture is the space of that creative labor, Chidester looks toward a future "pregnant with the possibilities of new kinds of authenticity."

Book Faith Based Fraud

    Book Details:
  • Author : Warren Cole Smith
  • Publisher : WildBlue Press
  • Release : 2021-05-04
  • ISBN : 195222554X
  • Pages : 300 pages

Download or read book Faith Based Fraud written by Warren Cole Smith and published by WildBlue Press. This book was released on 2021-05-04 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A leader of Ministry Watch examines how cases of abuse and financial corruption have hurt the church—and how to bring back integrity. We live in a secular, skeptical, and cynical age. Many Americans have lost faith in institutions—including the church. Although the vast majority of Christian leaders serve faithfully, examples of financial fraud, greed, sexual and emotional abuse, and other systemic problems are almost everyday occurrences. And a watching world has a right to ask even those who are faithful ministers of the Gospel: “If you knew this was happening, why didn’t you say something?” Whether or not honest and above-board Christian leadership like it, in the eyes of the world, our silence makes us complicit. That’s why this vital book takes a clear-eyed look at scandals in the church—from Jim and Tammy Bakker’s PTL Network to Mark Driscoll, Todd Bentley, David Jeremiah, and Bill Hybels. It is an answer to those who say that the silence of Christian leadership is approval. And although this book is sometimes tough on the church and its leaders, its purpose is not to tear down the evangelical church, but to restore it to its rightful place of influence in the culture and in the lives of people who desperately need its message of grace and truth. “Explains why shining sunlight on churches and ministries in America is important.” —Paul Glader, Director of the McCandlish Phillips Journalism Institute, The King’s College

Book The Biggiest Scam in Human History

Download or read book The Biggiest Scam in Human History written by Joyce Seagraves and published by Xlibris Us. This book was released on 2021-03 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My intention for writing this book is that it will enhance people's lives so they spend more time doing good instead of praying and wishing something will come to be. To question all the stories, we have been taught through are church leaders and our government's. Think of all the time mankind has spent in churches, temples, mosque's and what they could have accomplished if they had put their energy into something that has been proven scientifically for the good of mankind. The money people have spent in the church to hear a bunch of nonsense. This time and money could have been spent on knowledge of science and helping out other people without the church. To learn the real truth about mankind instead of worshipping people like Jesus, Mohammad or a God that is make up with fictitious facts. How many people have been killed for the sake of religion and how many wars have we fought over religious dogma? Our civilization would be so advanced and maybe even civilized if we embraced science instead of religion. We might have even wiped out famine, war, diseases by now and be living on another planet. Our ancestors were ignorant of the world by no fault of their own, after all we haven't evolved that long compared to the universe and we couldn't evolve until the conditions were right. A world where we were one people instead of people divided my countries and religions that don't get along, where women, children and the oppressed are treated with respect and dignity. I like to acknowledge all the scientists, philosophers and all those who sought knowledge instead of fables. I could never have written this book without the knowledge that has come before me and the research and dedication to finding out the real truth is beyond measurement. The church wants you to give them your money so they can buy their gold chalices, crosses, feed them, clothe them, and build the most expensive churches. Wouldn't it be easier to cut out the middleman and go directly to the people? Volunteers, community services, and prisoners can do the same work as the church and it would save a lot of money and time.

Book The Invention of a New Religion

Download or read book The Invention of a New Religion written by Basil Hall Chamberlain and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2020-03-16 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Invention of a New Religion" presents research on the establishment of Shintoism in Japan at the beginning of the 20th century. The author of this book was a professor at the Tokyo Imperial University who happened to live and work in Japan in times of great political changes. In this book, he states that the Shinto cult was established in Japan to supplant Buddhist impulses. The new religion aimed to change the formerly free-willing people, accustomed to revolts against royal dynasties, into a society that became docile to vertical practices of power and was successfully used as a powerful political tool. The implanting of Shintoism coincided with the attacks on university scholars and intellectuals who denounced the new religion.

Book Minority Religions and Fraud

Download or read book Minority Religions and Fraud written by Amanda van Eck Duymaer van Twist and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysing both fraud and religion as social constructs with different functions and meanings attributed to them, this book raises issues that are central to debates about the limits of religious toleration in diverse societies, and the possible harm (as well as benefits) that religious organisations can visit upon society and individuals. There has already been a lively debate concerning the structural context in which abuse, especially sexual abuse, can be perpetrated within religion. Contributors to the volume proceed from the premise that similar arguments about ways in which structure and power may be conducive to abuse can be made about fraud and deception. Both can contribute to abuse, yet they are often less easily demonstrated and proven, hence less easily prosecuted. With a focus on minority religions, the book offers a comparative overview of the concept of religious fraud by bringing together analyses of different types of fraud or deception (financial, bio-medical, emotional, breach of trust and consent). Contributors examine whether fraud is necessarily intentional (or whether that is in the eye of the beholder); certain structures may be more conducive to fraud; followers willingly participate in it. The volume includes some chapters focused on non-Western beliefs (Juju, Occult Economies, Dharma Lineage), which have travelled to the West and can be found in North American and European metropolitan areas.

Download or read book The Great Leap Fraud written by A.J. Deus and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-01-19 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religious ignorance is as dangerous for societal stability as religious extremism. In The Great Leap-Fraud, author A. J. Deus shows that only through the cowardly behavior of a majority that is uneducated in religious questions can sectarian extremism and terrorism take shape and overtake societies. Modern civilizations fail to address the dangerous defect. Based on a reassessment of primary documents from the beginning of Judaism through to the Reformation, The Great Leap-Fraud evaluates the Judaic scriptures of the Jews, the Christians, and the Muslims for their potential to stir hatred, violence, and terrorism. It searches for messages in the scriptures that may alter the economic behavior of societies. While providing an overview of three major religionsJudaism, Christianity, and IslamThe Great Leap-Fraud uncovers a series of frauds and premeditated deployment of prophets with the goal to establish or redeem the Jewish state of Israel. It also uncovers how the vested interest of Christian historians has pushed the rise of Christianity unto Roman Emperors. Deus shows that the way humans think and act are strongly influenced by a culture driven by the norms of religious organizations, both past and present. More information at www.ajdeus.org.

Book The Ultimate Deception

Download or read book The Ultimate Deception written by Bechara H. Charbel and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2013-01-09 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is not intended to drive people away from their religion, or denounce their beliefs in whatever God they believe in. It is simply aimed at waking up the Godly spirit we have all been infused with, recognizing it for what it is, and putting it to its ultimate use. Since the "invention" of religion and its twisted concept of God, human beings have been taught that they are of a subservient nature, and therefore servants to their God. It is as if man and woman beget children for their own gratification, and not so those children can forge their own path and destiny in life. Once the human spirit is liberated and lifted to the Godly heights it was destined to reach by its creator, wonderful things will happen, the least of them is true happiness on this earth.

Book excerpt: This little book is for those who believe and for those who no longer believe. It is an argument against organized religion. It is written in easy to read, easy to understand English. It is, if I may say so, an eraser for the mind. The topics discussed are these: Heaven and Hell; morals; absolute truth; the soul; creation myths; dogma; social control; consciousness; science; faith; evil; and truth. This is not an academic treatment of those topics. It is thoughts of the author, who has been thinking about these things for over 50 years. If nothing else this book will challenge your thinking if you are a believer; it will support your thinking if you are not.Read it with an open mind, an open heart, and a desire to replace the scam with reason and rationality.

Book excerpt: This book shows how all of our present day western religious beliefs came from one early form of religion, and how religious leaders throughout history have adapted these religious beliefs in an attempt to control their followers. As you read this book you will discover that the literal "truths" and "historical events" that are espoused by our churches, and have formed much of our present day religious beliefs, were actually based on much earlier pagan myths, particularly that of solar worship or Astrolatry.

Book The Great Leap Fraud

    Book Details:
  • Author : A. J. Deus
  • Publisher : iUniverse
  • Release : 2011-08-12
  • ISBN : 1462029752
  • Pages : 776 pages

Download or read book The Great Leap Fraud written by A. J. Deus and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-08-12 with total page 776 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a reassessment of primary documents from the beginning of Judaism through to the Reformation, author A. J. Deus evaluates the Judaic scriptures of the Jews, the Christians, and the Muslims for their potential to stir hatred, violence, and terrorism. He searches for messages in the scriptures that may alter the economic behavior of societies. In this, the second volume of The Great Leap-Fraud, Deus exposes the frauds that overrun the Islamic faith. He focuses on the scriptural foundation of the Muslims and explains the status of terrorism, Jihad, and human rights in the historical context. Tying history to contemporary issues, Deus puts the evidence together that shows how the Jews used the doctrinal difference of the time to heave themselves into power and redeem Israel. He demonstrates how societies and economies have changed because of religion and shows the consequences of those who preach hatred against humanity. The findings in The Great Leap-Fraud are highly relevant to the crisis in the Middle East and the poor world: Intellectual framework and social norms in four Judaic religions Social organization in the industry of religion Interaction mechanism of violence and terrorism between believers and nonbelievers Economic development and religiosity The working of the secularization process In The Great Leap-Fraud, Deus argues that religious freedom poses the biggest threat to humanity, and he calls for the regulation of religion as an industry. He encourages citizens to look at religious history through unbiased eyes. See http://www.ajdeus.org for more information, previews and articles.
