Download or read book Religion Spirituality and the Way of Life in the Himalayas written by Malcolm Teasdale and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-08-16 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book details my experiences in the Himalayan regions of Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, and Myanmar. In an effort to become more educated about the way of life of its peoples, I discovered that religion is such an important part of their everyday life. Also, as the lands become more integrated into the mountains, the feeling of something spiritual becomes noticeable. Maybe it's the solitude, the peacefulness, or could it be that the Himalayas possess a certain mystic. My travels took me into the cities congested streets where I mingled with the locals and learnt about their culture, the historic and important sacred temples that support the regions religions, and the near isolation in the mountains. These Himalayan regions possess a certain magic that one cannot encounter elsewhere in the World, and I am truly thankful for the opportunity I have been given to venture into these lands. Be enlightened.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Journey of Healing and Transformation An enlightening memoir of a reluctant spiritual seeker who finds much more than she bargained for when she travels to India. Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati, from Hollywood, California, had a privileged upbringing that hid some dark secrets. She grappled with an eating disorder and trauma from her early childhood for years. But, as a Stanford grad getting her PhD in Psychology, she felt she was successfully navigating adulthood. After getting married, when she agreed to travel to India to appease her husband, little did Sadhviji know a journey of healing and awakening awaited her. She had everything the material world could offer. Soon, she would give it all up to follow the divine path. Hollywood to the Himalayas describes Sadhviji’s odyssey towards divine enlightenment and inspiration through her extraordinary connection with her guru and renewed confidence in the pleasure and joy that life can bring. Now one of the preeminent female spiritual teachers in the world, Sadhviji recounts her journey with wit, honesty, and clarity. Along the way, she offers teachings to help us all step onto our own path of awakening and discover the truth of who we really are—embodiments of the Divine. Americanborn Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati, PhD, moved to India in 1996. A graduate of Stanford University, she was ordained by Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswati, president of one of the largest interfaith institutions in India, into the tradition of sanyas and lives at the Parmarth Niketan ashram in Rishikesh, where she leads a variety of humanitarian projects, teaches meditation, gives spiritual discourses, and counsels individuals and families. Book Religion and Modernity in the Himalaya

Download or read book Religion and Modernity in the Himalaya written by Megan Adamson Sijapati and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-10 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religion has long been a powerful cultural, social, and political force in the Himalaya. Increased economic and cultural flows, growth in tourism, and new forms of governance and media, however, have brought significant changes to the religious traditions of the region in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. This book presents detailed case studies of lived religion in the Himalaya in this context of rapid change to offer intra-regional perspectives on the ways in which lived religions are being re-configured or re-imagined. Based on original fieldwork, this book documents understudied forms of religion in the region and presents unique perspectives on the phenomenon and experience of religion, discussing why, when, and where practices, discourses, and the category of religion itself, are engaged by varying communities in the region. It yields fruitful insights into both the religious traditions and lived human experiences of Himalayan peoples in the modern era. Presenting new research and perspectives on the Himalayan region, this book should be of interest to students and scholars of South Asian Studies, Religious Studies, and Modernity.

Book A Himalayan Hope and a Himalayan Promise

Download or read book A Himalayan Hope and a Himalayan Promise written by Thomas E. Pliske Ph. D. and published by . This book was released on 2019-09-15 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All of us are asking how our lives can make a difference in creating a world with more kindness, peace, love, sharing, harmony and happiness. The promises of economics, politics, diplomacy, philosophy and even religion have not satisfied our hopes, although each of these can be useful if properly guided. It is the Light of pure spirituality, of the inner heart of humanity, that can and will bring healing and turn our aspirations into realization. How do we experience this Light and how will it perform the great work of transforming our own life and that of the planet? The Vedic Indian spiritual tradition is one of the oldest in the world. Neither a religion nor a philosophy, it is the collective experiences of human beings over many millennia, yogis, who sought and realized the highest Truth. In their own words, they discovered the Truth of the Creator at one with the universal creation, existing in a bond of divine love to which every human soul has awareness and access. The principles of attaining this consciousness, the yoga, has passed down the centuries from masters to disciples, and are available to all who are receptive to learn. The compassionate vision of the Creator is that every aspect of creation: humanity, Mother Earth and the universe will eventually become conscious of the divinity of their existence. This book explores the promise and practical value of the Vedic tradition through the experiences and writings of two contemporary realized masters, Sri Chinmoy and Sri Aurobindo. The discussions center on the themes of comparing yogic with conventional scientific perspectives, the inner dimensions of human consciousness, evolution, death, reincarnation and karma. The last chapter invites the reader to envision the transformation of three modern debates when seen through the lens of yogic vision: global environment, ethical standards and medical practice.

Book excerpt: Every year, a group of Isha meditators sets out on a tour of the Himalayas. Accompanying them on this journey is Sadhguru – a spiritual master considered by many to be one of the foremost living yogis on the planet. This is a book for those who stayed behind. It is a chance to make a pilgrimage on the page, travelling through the unpredictable but fascinating terrain of the master’s words. Amalgamating discourses and conversations from several yatras, it is a blend of the specific and the timeless. This book is not just about the Himalayas. And yet, the book would never have happened without the Himalayas. The mountains play a vital role in the text, alternately as context and catalyst, mood and metaphor. Without them, some of the questions in this book would never have been asked. Even if they sometimes seem tangential to the line of enquiry, they remain a powerful subterranean presence, eventually becoming the very bedrock of this book.
