Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Religion and Drink The word drink in this book means those alcoholic beverages spoken of in the Bible. The conclusions apply, strictly, only to those particular beverages. But, naturally, they apply, by analogy, for certain purposes, to other alcoholic drinks that are no more hazardous. For example; if wine is right, beer is. In the composition of this book I gratefully acknowledge valuable suggestions from my learned friend, Mr. Walter J. Kidd. What is God's will for us in the matter of drink? This book is an attempt to answer that question; and no other. As far as I know, mine is the first examination of this question, on so extensive a scale, in the English language. This is remarkable, too, in view of the fact that the religious aspect of the drink question is the really vital and critical one for millions and millions of people; and of the further fact that around all other sides of the question veritable libraries have been built up. The answer I seek in the Bible and the Church; - the Church, I say, not some division of it; but the Church as a whole, the Church Universal. The chapters on the Old and New Testaments may look hard and uninteresting, because of the Hebrew and Greek words recurring so frequently. Book excerpt: This edited volume brings together scholars from across disciplines to examine the relationship between religion and alcohol. It examines the historical, social, ritual, economic, political, and cultural relationship between religion and alcohol across time periods and around the world. Twelve chapters are tied together by two major themes: first, gender identity, and its intersection with religion and alcohol; second, identity construction in religious communities, demonstrating how alcohol can be used as a distinguishing factor for religious, ethnic, and national identity. A key focus of the volume is how alcohol can bridge and divide the point at which the sacred and secular meet. With its interdisciplinary approach and engaging style, this book is an essential resource for undergraduate and graduate students in religion departments and appeals to scholars of material culture, food, and alcohol. Additionally, the book is of interest to professionals in the alcohol industry, particularly those involved in microbrewing and winemaking, who are interested in understanding the historical and cultural contexts of their craft.

Book The Bible and Alcohol Use

Download or read book The Bible and Alcohol Use written by Glen Striemer and published by TEACH Services, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-04-18 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does the Bible have to say about drinking wine and alcoholic beverages? What are the different Bible words used in the Hebrew and Greek to differentiate between fermented and non-fermented wine? Did Jesus create fermented wine at the wedding feast? Author Glen Striemer brings clarity to this confusing and often misunderstood topic in the Bible. He takes the reader on a thought-provoking tour from the first pure fruits in the Garden of Eden, to the drunken feasts of the Old Testament kings, to the warnings of the prophets against wine, to the use of wine and what it symbolized in the sanctuary service, to the meaning of the Nazrene vow, and to the use of wine in the communion service. The effects of alcohol on various parts of the body are discussed, along with a warning to Christians and about the use of wine and alcoholic beverages. Alcohol has been the biggest curse and tool of Satan since creation. The author challenges all Christians to remember they are now part of the royal priesthood forbidden to drink alcohol. With God's help, they are to live a sanctified life without alcohol in the days just prior to Christ’s return.

Book The Holy Bible Repudiates Prohibition

Download or read book The Holy Bible Repudiates Prohibition written by George Garvin Brown and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-05-19 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Holy Bible Repudiates "Prohibition" Compilation of All Verses Containing the Words "Wine" Or "Strong Drink," Proving That the Scriptures Commend and Command the Temperate Use of Alcoholic Beverages I was reared on a farm, a son of Scotch and Irish parents from whom I inherited the highest reverence for religion and the Bible. I began reading the Bible as soon as I was able to read at all and my necollection is that I had read it consecutively through before I had so read any other book. The habit of my youth in reading the Bible has been continued to this day and it is a source of gratification to be able to say that my confidence in the Bible and in the true ministers of God has grown with my years. I have been a whisky merchant and manufacturer for forty years and believe now, as I always have believed, that there is no more moral turpitude in manufacturing and selling an intoxicat mg liquor than there is in manufacturing and selling any other product, of course realizing that man is responsible to God for his every act and that the conditions surrounding every individual act must be taken into consideration in determining whether it be right or wrong. This applies to every business and condition in life. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. While drinking alcoholic beverages was once unthinkable, social drinking is increasing in Christian circles today. Many pastors are also endorsing this practice. But what does the Bible say about drinking alcohol? Is it all right for Christians to drink wine? Can believers be a testimony in atmospheres where alcohol is served? The answers to these questions and more are found in Should Christians Drink Alcohol? Author Jill Walker provides biblical evidence why Christians should abstain from drinking all alcoholic beverages. Walker also shares why eating where alcoholic beverages are served can be a bad choice. Jill's personal stories and scriptural references shared in Should Christians Drink Alcohol? will enlighten your heart. As you read an open mind and examine her research, you will be challenged to be completely abstinent.
