Book Advances in Environmental Psychology

Download or read book Advances in Environmental Psychology written by A. Baum and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2014-01-14 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1982. It is not difficult to understand why interest in psychological aspects of energy production, consumption, and conservation has increased during the past decade. The stresses of living or working near power plants, the problems inherent in reducing fuel consumption, and the many applications of behavioral science to these issues have all received attention of late. This volume, the third in a series, is concerned with these issues-the ways in which psychology can contribute to understanding and helping to solve what has generally been termed an ''energy crisis”.

Book Goal Concepts in Personality and Social Psychology

Download or read book Goal Concepts in Personality and Social Psychology written by Lawrence A. Pervin and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2015-06-19 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is behavior motivated? And if so, can it be motivated by the anticipation of future events? What role does cognition play in such motivational processes? And, further, what role does motivation play in ongoing cognitive activity? Questions such as these provide the foundation for this book, originally published in 1989. More specifically, the chapters in this book address the question of the utility of goals concepts in studying motivation and social cognition.

Book Multiple Perspectives on the Effects of Evaluation on Performance

Download or read book Multiple Perspectives on the Effects of Evaluation on Performance written by Stephen G. Harkins and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the field of psychology, research areas often develop in relative isolation. Researchers in different areas are either not aware of, or seem to fail to see the relevance of findings from other areas even though it would seem that the findings are directly relevant to their own. One striking example of this is to be found in research that focuses on the effects of evaluation on performance. This volume integrates thinking from five different research traditions - Achievement Goals, Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic Motivation, Goal Setting, Social Loafing, and Social Facilitation - through the unique format of a give-and-take conversation between leading academics from each.

Book Motivation Theory and Research

Download or read book Motivation Theory and Research written by Harold F. O'Neil and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed for professionals and graduate students in the personality/social, military, and educational psychology, and assessment/evaluation communities, this volume explores the state of the art in motivational research for individuals and teams from multiple theoretical viewpoints as well as their effects in both schools and training environments. The great majority of education and training R&D is focused on the cognitive dimensions of learning, for instance, the acquisition and retention of knowledge and skills. Less attention has been given in the literature and in the design of education and training itself to motivational variables and their influence on performance. As such, this book is unique in the following montage of factors: * a focus on motivation of teams or groups as well as individuals; * an examination of the impact of motivation on performance (and, thus, also on cognition) rather than only on motivation itself; * research in training as well as educational settings. The data reported were collected in various venues including schools, laboratories and field settings. The chapter authors are the researchers that, in many cases, have defined the state of the art in motivation.

Book The Motivational Effects of Participation Versus Goal Setting on Performance

Download or read book The Motivational Effects of Participation Versus Goal Setting on Performance written by Gary P. Latham and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 3 x 2 factorial design was used to examine the motivational effects of participation in decision making (PDM) versus goal setting on performance. Seventy-two college students were randomly assigned to one of six conditions. The task selected for the study was a toy assembly project adapted from a business game used in an assessment center. The motivational effects of PDM were isolated from the cognitive by imposing the ideas generated through PDM on another condition. Assigned/participative goals were set in terms of the number of toys that could be produced within a 20-minute period. Goal difficulty was held constant between the two conditions. The results showed a significant main effect for goal setting only. Both forms of goal setting led to performance that was significantly higher than that which occurred in the do best condition. The interaction effect between goal setting and decision making was not significant. (Author).

Book The Differential Effects of Position Velocity and Acceleration Feedback on Motivation Over Time

Download or read book The Differential Effects of Position Velocity and Acceleration Feedback on Motivation Over Time written by Daniel Jacob Watola and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper is concerned with the definition and application of position, velocity, and acceleration performance information as feedback. Specifically, it examines individuals' affective, behavioral, and cognitive reactions to feedback frames over time and across two contrasting performance profiles. Repeated measures MANCOVA supported a performance profile x time interaction for state positive affect, task self-efficacy, satisfaction with performance, and goal commitment. Simple effects analyses indicated that participants' indicators of task motivation increased over time in the accelerating performance profile, but decreased over time in the decelerating performance profile. A three-way interaction between feedback frame, performance profile, and time was not supported as hypothesized.

Book Effects of Feedback and Goal Setting on Productivity

Download or read book Effects of Feedback and Goal Setting on Productivity written by Robert D. Pritchard and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research described here is the most recent effort in a program of research sponsored by the Air Force Human Resources Laboratory and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. The basic logic of this program is that it is appropriate to explore ways of increasing productivity which can be implemented by local management and which rely on intrinsic motivation to increase productivity.
