Book Minority Entrepreneurial Finance Barriers A Dissertation by Le Mon J Bass III

This book was released on 2021-08-12 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Minority Business Enterprises play a significant role in evolving the U.S. economy and contributing to its Gross Domestic Product. Although entrepreneurs seek independence and the rewards of entrepreneurship, corporate financing may be a necessitate to begin or continue the life of a business. However, finding, engaging, and securing capital is an ongoing problem for some that extend beyond existing discriminatory barriers such as race, gender, ethnic origin, or geographical positioning. The objective of this phenomenological inquiry is to investigate an additional obstacle encountered when seeking business financing and explore whether the educational level of an applicant is a factor. The design utilized a conceptualization adapted from Gary Becker's Economics of Discrimination Theory to explore whether educational level plays a role in the process. The framework investigated the lived experiences of minority entrepreneurs in the St. Louis Metropolitan area in a closed-ended survey, in which educational levels are evaluated similarly to other established biases. This new research direction is consistent with similar research yet expands it to uncover an additional bias and determinant of corporate financing. This study contributes to existing business theories and further develops the knowledge in business by analyzing financial processes relating to MBE's and minority entrepreneurs' funding experiences. The results indicate an involvement between the educational level of minority entrepreneurs and existing barriers and the level of education as a perceived bias. These findings are significant because recognizing discriminatory behaviors and economic barriers can emancipate a minority business owner and rechannel their corporate financing experiences.

Book Doing Business in Minority Markets

Download or read book Doing Business in Minority Markets written by Robert Mark Silverman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-12-24 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines black and Korean entrepreneurship in Chicago's ethnic beauty aids industry. In the case of each entrepreneurial group, business activities are heavily influenced by the economic conditions found on the South Side of Chicago. For instance, both groups provide goods and services to black consumers, both groups modify their business practices in response to the depressed incomes and disinvestment in the communities where they are located, and both groups mobilize resources based on ethnicity and social class in order to overcome the economic constraints found in the market setting where their businesses operate. This book is unique for two reasons. First, it examines the context of black and Korean entrepreneurship from an historical and sociological perspective. Through this approach, continuity and change in entrepreneurial behavior is identified. Second, it examined black and Korean Entrepreneurship within the context of a single industry, the ethnic beauty aids industry. This approach allows for a thorough analysis of networks and organizational interactions between black and Korean entrepreneurs at all levels of this industry manufacturing, distribution, and retailing. The findings in this book add to existing research on Entrepreneurship in minority communities, and offer a reformulation of theories concerning middleman minority groups, black Entrepreneurship, and economic under development.

Book Minority Entrepreneurship 2 0

Download or read book Minority Entrepreneurship 2 0 written by Timothy Bates and published by . This book was released on 2022-08-22 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Minority Entrepreneurship 2.0 examines the unique challenges facing minorities pursuing entrepreneurial alternatives in very specific social, political, historical, and economic contexts, and these contexts differ from nation to nation. This monograph examines the different contexts in which Black and Asian owners have run their firms since the late 19th century. In sociological terms, the kinds of firms they owned and the way these owners operated their firms were heavily shaped by the differing contexts in which they were embedded. Key factors shaping MBEs in America differ substantially from the relevant contextual factors operative in England or France or Germany.
