Book Molecular and Cellular Biology of Prostate Cancer

Download or read book Molecular and Cellular Biology of Prostate Cancer written by D.S. Coffey and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings of the 5th Prouts Neck Meeting on Prostate Cancer, held in October, 1989, highlight the many advances in the understanding of prostatic growth and function at the cellular and molecular levels which have been registered since the first Prouts Neck Meeting in 1985, a meeting which also focused on the then current concepts and basic approaches to understanding prostate cancer. Inter vening Prouts Neck Meetings in 1986, 1987 and 1988 were devoted to treatment, image cytometry and clinical markers. As before, the Prouts Neck tradition of bringing together an international, multidiscipli nary group of experts for 3 days to exchange ideas and new data, in the relaxed atmosphere of an old iun on the scenic Maine coast, proved to be an ideal combination for a highly successful conference. Accordingly, the Organ System Program of the National Cancer Institute plans to use the Prouts Neck model for future conferences on other solid tumors (bladder in 1990 and kidney in 1991) and will return to the prostate in 1992. A new dimension was added to the current program through the inclusion of a poster session to recognize the research of pre-and postdoctoral investigators. The posters were judged by Drs. Collette Freeman, Frank French, Shutsung Liao, Robert Matusik and Henry Sun. The three winners, in alphabeti cal order, were John Fabian, Robert Getzenberg and Ming Fong-Lin.

Book Prostate Cancer Clinical and Scientific Aspects

Download or read book Prostate Cancer Clinical and Scientific Aspects written by Paul David Abel and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 1237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the advent of the genomic era, the perceived benefits of close collaboration between clinicians and scientists are not always realised and the gap between bench and bedside remains. Closer collaboration should expedite advances in treating disease. This important book, with a foreword by Fritz H Schroder, is designed to enhance the relationship between the two communities. It contains data from a multinational authorship, the thirty-eight chapters being written by experts with widely differing training and expectations. Their aim is to facilitate both understanding and in-depth knowledge of their subject. By bridging the gap between clinicians and scientists, the hope is to enhance translational research in their common goal of improving the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, the single most important cancer affecting men. Book Characterization of Differential Transforming Growth Factor beta Sensitivity in Prostate Cancer Cells

Download or read book Characterization of Differential Transforming Growth Factor beta Sensitivity in Prostate Cancer Cells written by Sharon Marie Sintich and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In conclusion, the unexpected proliferative effect of TGF-beta, in the prostate cancer cell line TSU-Pr1, is mediated by an up-regulation of PDGF expression. This proliferation is allowed to occur since high levels of endogenous SGP-2 protects TSU-Pr1 cells from the cytotoxic effects of TGF-beta.

Book Some Drinking water Disinfectants and Contaminants Including Arsenic

Download or read book Some Drinking water Disinfectants and Contaminants Including Arsenic written by IARC Working Group on the Evaluation of Carcinogenic Risks to Humans and published by IARC. This book was released on 2004 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A working group of 23 experts from 13 countries met in Lyon to evaluate the evidence for carcinogenicity of arsenic (mostly naturally occurring) as a contaminant of drinking-water, and of the water-disinfectant chloramine. The working group also evaluated or re-evaluated four chlorination by-products found in drinking-water, namely chloral hydrate, di- and trichloroacetic acids, and 3-chloro-4-(dichloromethyl)-5-hydroxy-2(5H)-furanone (also known as MX). High-level exposure to arsenic in drinking-water occurs in some regions such as China, Latin America, Bangladesh and West Bengal. The Working Group reviewed epidemiological studies of human cancer (mainly ecological studies in Taiwan and Chile, and several case-control and cohort studies) in relation to arsenic in drinking-water. Arsenic in drinking-water (primarily inorganic, as arsenate and to a lesser extent arsenite) was evaluated as carcinogenic to humans (Group 1) on the basis of sufficient evidence for an increased risk for cancer of the urinary bladder, lung and skin. Studies on inorganic arsenic in experimental animals provided limited evidence for its carcinogenicity, but sufficient evidence was found in experimental animals for the carcinogenicity of dimethylarsinic acid (an organic form of arsenic), which produced urinary bladder tumours in rats and lung tumours in mice after oral administration.
